FOREWORD
In its 65 years of existence, Langley Research Center hasbeen directly involved with many significantaccomplishments in aeronautics and space, but none havebeen more important than the event scheduled next monthwhen the Space Shuttle becomes an operational spacetransportation system. The Shuttle's unique operationalcapability will provide this nation and the free world with theopportunity to routinely venture into space, open new vistasfor exploration, and offer new environments forexperimentation. The combination of facilities with atalented and dedicated staff has resulted in a significantLangley involvement in the development of the Shuttle; wecan be justifiably proud.
Today we acknowledge some of the talented members of theLangley staff, as grotrs and as individuals. Recognizing thatthese are but some 0 those worthy of mention, we share intheir pride of being singled out for their contributions. Theyare worthy representatives of this organization, whichprovides them with the opportunity to participate in andcontribute to our continued quest for technological progress.
To each of you recognized today, and to the rest of theCenter's staff, I offer my warmest congratulations and thanks~well one;n the "Langley tradmon. "
