SCENE ONE: INT. 1900S FACTORY

TITLES

Fade to SCREEN FULL OF COGS

ESTABLISHING SHOT

The camera zooms in through the turning cogs to reveal a noisy, Victorian factory. We see the two main characters busy at work with silhouettes of other workers and machinery in the background.

CHAR. 1 (female) & CHAR. 2 (male) are both working machinery to mundane and rhythmic music. Steam shoots from a machine with a whistle sound and fills the screen which then dissipates to show a closer view of the two characters.

CHAR. 1 wipes sweat from her brow as she struggles to keep up with the busy work. CHAR. 2 in the background looks round at her. CHAR. 1 turns and sees CHAR. 2 looking at her which distracts her and causes her to stop her work momentarily. The machinery locks and creates a different sound to the sound the machine usually makes. An alarm sounds because of the break in the machinery. The machinery then goes back to the normal sound and CHAR. 1 deliberately breaks the machine again to hear the other, more pleasant sound. CHAR. 2 joins in and creates further musical sounds.

CHAR. 1 carries on pulling the lever to make the nicer sound and the movement of the lever creates the transition to the next scene.

SCENE TWO: THE CONVEYOR BELT

The black screen pans down to reveal CHAR.2 helping CHAR.1 onto the conveyor belt. They begin to dance as the music has changed to a more romantic tune.

The camera is still but the conveyor belt moves and the Characters dance along so they are always in shot. Behind them the scenery is changing and we see silhouettes of other workers dancing along. Various machinery moves past the camera (parallax). One larger piece of machinery moves past the camera and then the colours change from black and white to sepia. Buildings begin to rise up in the distance in a mechanical motion. The Characters costumes have changed from work clothes to more dressy costume.

At the point the characters step onto a tower of the building and the camera begins to move in a continuous

circular motion around them as they dance.

SCENE THREE: THE MUSIC BOX

The Characters step off from the tower and run towards a raised platform. As they dance CHAR. 2 lifts up CHAR. 1 and the view transitions to a view on top of a group of decorative turning cogs. As the cogs turn, the one the couple are standing on rises up. The camera zooms out slowly as the couple rise on the platform to reveal that they are standing in a music box.

The couple dance round and round to the music gradually slowing to a stop. The music stops and we fade to black.
