Execute summary
I was working in SEGI which stands for Saudi Engineering Group International. I was working
under the accounting department. I was surprise that they don’t have an IT department, but they
said that they are working on it. They had 2 IT people and when I was arrived one of them took a
vacation.
At the beginning, I was introducing to the company’s people. Also, I met with the operation
manager and one of the accounting people. We discussed the project that I will deal with it. the
project was about transforming the hard copies to soft copies then put them in a database. The
reason was to be able to locate any file in a second.
The first month, it was only collecting data and transfers the hard copies to soft copies. It was a
long way to finish it all. It was more than 10000 papers. Also, because I was under the
accounting department, they gave me some work for them to finish it. Almost all the extra work
was reviewing papers and make sure that it is good.
The second month, it was about learning the PHP language and try to use my other language that
I’m familiar with it to finish the project. In the first I got some tutorial from the internet and I
was working very hard to understand and see what of the tools will help me doing the project. I
didn’t get that help from the people there in the company, so I spent more time trying to
understand. The problem was they didn’t decide yet what server are they going to use and in
what form they want it. I kept learning about PHP language and it was a good thing to learn
something new.
In the end, I got to use PHP language to discover the first part of what they want which is how to
put the files in the server. After that I was putting everything together.

AcknowledgementI thank many people who helped me during my training. The first one is Ali Al Saihati who was
one of the accounting people there. He gave me a lot of knowledge about files and how they deal
with it. Also, he told me how they organize the files and the names of each paper. The second
person is Sami Al Saihat who was System integration Specialist. He was the same as my major.
He graduated 2 years ago. He helped me with the project because was one of our team. The last
one will be ajith who was my supervisor in the company.

SWOT analysisThe strength of the company is that it has offices in each key city in Saudi Arabia. It has offices
in Dammam, Riyadh, Jubail, Ras Tanoura and Abha. The weakness in the company is that they
don’t have an IT department even if it is an engineering company. Every company has to have an

Job history

Assignment Time Description
Transferring hard copy files to
soft copy files
Week 2- 4 In the first month my job was
to transfer hard copy files to
soft copy files by scanning
them and organize them.
Reading and learning about
PHP language
Week 5-6 It took me 2 weeks and a half
to learn PHP most relative
stuff to be used in the project
Doing the coding Week 7-9 The rest of the time which was
2 weeks I had to code
everything and make it
available
Conceptual framework
Rose India mentioned on 2009 that “PHP is an open source server side programming language
available at free of cost that can be get easily from the market. Its coding style is quiet easy to
understandable and it is very efficient on multi-platforms like Windows, Linux, and UNIX etc”.
This fact I face it while doing the project. It was very easy to understand the codes and
developed one. Also, it was easy to create my own. In addition, Rose India said in their article
about the benefits of using PHP language that “It is very flexible but powerful language, most
suitable for developing dynamic web pages. Nowadays developing dynamic websites are in the
huge demand due to its specific characteristics like it automatically refreshes and does not need
to make much change manually”. It was a good tool to use for website form and connecting
easily with the server.
11
Technical Part Transferring hard copy to soft copy
The first task was to transfer hard copy files to soft copy files. It was an easy task but it was very
long one. It took me one month to complete the whole files. I faced some problems in this task
but it wasn’t that big. One of them was working with team was one of it because what I learned
when working with team in the university is different from working with professional team in
teal work. Also, there were a different nationality in the team like Indian people, Saudi people,
Philippine people, and etc. I tried to ne involve with them and to deal with them like a
professional and they were very nice people that teach me about any difficulty that I’m facing in
work.
PHP language
The second task divided in 2 parts. The first one was to learn about PHP language. The PHP
language is companied perl, C#, and java. It took me 2 weeks to understand the basic concept of
PHP. I got advantages because I know about HTML and Java languages. That helped me to
understand a lot of materials very quickly. I faced a little problem with starting to learn about
new language. I came over it by taking many tutorial and practice at work and at home to fully
understanding it.
The second part was about writing the codes. It was a little bit difficult to apply the concept I
learned. First, I did a form page to upload the soft copy files. I did just 2 files to test it and it
worked but it took only pictures. After that, I work with the search engine to find any file very
fast. This was the difficult thing to do because I upload it as a picture. So, it gave us a hard time.
Other work
12
The manager gave me other little tasks to finish it. one of them was to take some files and
organize it but before that to review it and make sure everything is perfect. In addition, I was
sorting some files and give them to the manager. Also, I got some lecture about organizing files
and what each paper called.
Evaluation
I can evaluate my experience at SEGI a good but not wonderful. I faced problem there because I
was under other department not dealing with my major a lot. It was using my major a little bit in
the first. But after taking the project and do the coding it was very interesting. Also, dealing with
professional people was a good experience to gain. In addition, I got to understand what real life
looks like.
Summary
It was good to work in real life. I found it interesting to work and do a project for such a
company. Also, I see what the meaning of working under pressure is and work with team. I
almost finished the work that required for us as a team. I’ll recommend it to engineering students
but for my major I'll not. I don’t recommend it because it doesn’t have an IT department, so you
will work under other department.
Conclusion
It was a good experience to gain from working in a real world. Also, it was a good chance to
work under pressure and try to be part of a professional team that has the experience. Working
13
with materials and try to do what we study in school is a good opportunity to have a good idea of
what kind of information we can use in real life.
