Year 10 students from NHHS attended a day at the Nambucca Island Golf Club where they were able to listen and talk with people from a variety of workplaces. Representatives were there from universities, TAFE, employment & training agencies to offer advice when leaving school. The students also received the opportunity to undertake mock interviews with experienced people from many industries. Here they were encouraged and offered advice when undertaking an interview.

From The Principal

Dear Parents & Community

AND WRITEW GOLD

I hope that together we

can provide an

enjoyable and

challenging environment

for our children to learn

in during 2010.

.”

Another year has passed yet again. 2010 has been a very hectic year with the school receiving a significant amount of funding from NPS, PSP and other equity funding sources. The money enabled the addition of resources (interactive whiteboards) and the development of programs to better extend our students and improve their educational outcomes. It has been a year of evaluation of where we are at and setting new targets and expectations of our students and ourselves. A priority in 2011 will be the increased involvement and support of parents and the community. To move our students further forward, it is imperative that parents have a positive and active role in their children‟s education. In 2011 we hope that parents will be more aware of how and what your child‟s education is all about. We have said farewell to a number of people throughout the year. Mr McKinney, our English Head teacher, received a promotion to Deputy at Toormina High School.

A well deserved promotion that left many sad students and disappointed parents. Year 12 left us during November and hopefully the results that they were capable of will be evident at the end of this week. Thank you to Tahnee and Daniel for your leadership throughout the year. Two of our long serving teachers are calling it quits at the end of the year. Mr Redman and Mrs Brock will take leave after a significant number of years dedicating their time to students in this valley. Both will leave us with fond farewells and in the knowledge they have created many friends among staff and students over a long time. A reminder that ALL students 7 – 12 return to school on Monday the 31st January. Thank you to all of those people who continue to make a positive contribution to our school. I hope that you all enjoy the company of your children over the holidays. I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a safe and happy new year.

Duke of Edinburgh's practice expedition - Pt Lookout to Thora

After weeks of planning and a practice overnight trip the Silver group have finally completed their 3 day journey walking from Pt Lookout to Thora. The group enjoyed fantastic views and magnificent rainforest, traversing the headwaters of the Bellinger River, before dropping down and following the river to Thora. We were fascinated by the historic settlement at Brinerville. The students are to be commended for their organisation and for persisting with walking, despite rain and leeches! The next bushwalking expedition for the group will be held early next year and will be another 3 day

walk. The group will participate in whitewater kayaking on the Upper Bellinger during week 10 of term.
