DON’T BLEND IN: How to create a personal brand that attracts opportunities and influences success

Ever wish you had more influence with people? How would it make your job easier if they instantly liked you and trusted you? Now, imagine what an advantage it would be like if

you knew what they were thinking, feeling or intending to do by reading their body language and speech patterns. Melinda is going to share scientifically proven strategies you can use to ethically influence decisions.

Melinda Marcus, MA, CSP, shows executives how to influence decisions before they lose big opportunities. As an expert in The Science of Influence, she bases her consulting and speaking programs on proven strategies in Persuasive Psychology, Body Language and Strategic Messaging. Melinda has built a solid track record helping clients, from Fortune 500 companies to leading regional organizations, across a range of industries: healthcare, law, financial services, architecture, and even NFL teams. Her programs on The Science of Influence empower executives to gain buy-in from clients, prospects, colleagues and boards. As a result of her consulting and coaching, executives have successfully closed deals in excess of $275 million.

During her career, she was named one of the “Ten Outstanding Young Working Women in America” by Glamour magazine and “One of the Five Women to Watch in the Southwest” by ADWEEK magazine. Her work has been honored with more than 100 awards in the advertising industry, including prestigious CLIOs and a Silver Lion at Cannes. Before starting her own firm, she was the first female Creative Director at the award-winning national branding agency The Richards Group.

Melinda has been a featured speaker and workshop leader nationally and internationally for corporations, professional associations, and universities, including top business schools, such as Northwestern Kellogg. She was chosen for a Master Program on Nonverbal Communications, where she is studying directly with the former FBI agent who trained the FBI on how to read body language. She earned her B.S. with Honors in Psychology from Northwestern University and her M.A. in Mass Communications from Southern Methodist University. Her Psychology research on first impressions is published in the Journal of Applied Social Psychology. She has earned the National Speakers Association’s CSP (Certified Speaking Professional) certification, a designation earned by only 12% of speakers globally, who have attained the highest level of quality in the speaking profession.

MARCH 2017 | FAN | 5

As February draws to a close, we reflect on a month celebrating our diverse history, our Presidents, and a month which Hallmark reminds us to proclaim our love to those in our lives. It doesn’t take an Andra Grava to deduce that our country and world could benefit if everyone would simply remind those in our lives a little more often they are loved. In a world which emphasizes how we are different, I want to challenge you to make a conscious effort to let those in your life know they are loved on a more consistent basis. We all need to hear it, and we are all better off for hearing it.

Speaking of “spreading the love”, February is a wonderful month to remember the ones we love by updating our life insurance policies to protect our families should the unexpected happen.

Last month our local associations descended on Austin for the annual NAIFA-Texas state convention. NAIFA-Dallas’ own

Andra Grava ran and was elected to the State Board of Trustees, adding to the legacy of NAIFA-Dallas and giving us two members on the State Board as Trustees. I am looking forward to working with Andra as he is one of the most brilliant people I am proud to know.

This year’s meeting was a great event, going to the Capitol and meeting with our elected officials. With the federal judge ruling on the Fiduciary Rule in the manner she did, NAIFA’s work continues, and it was great to get in front of our lawmakers.

At the conference, Joseph Orr, President-Elect of NAIFA Texas, elected to have Marv Feldman come and speak to our members. Marv continues to amaze me and our peers as he travels the globe, represents Life Happens Foundation, and shares his incredible sales ideas from the “first family” of life insurance. Marv is as engaging as ever and has relevant insight any producer can put to use in his practice.

Additionally, we celebrated the 20th LILI Class of NAIFA-Texas in which our own Matt Robertson concluded his journey. Matt’s enthusiasm for NAIFA and NAIFA-Dallas is inspiring and energizing to those around him. Congratulations, Matt!

Your board continues to work hard. It is exciting to see the changes which will be rolled out for our members, sponsors, and community as this coming year is put together. Thanks to Karen True and Pam Thompson for all they do as they keep us on track and moving in the right direction. Be safe, take care, and we look forward to seeing you soon.
