  • Celebrating e succe of DFites !Hi Darpan readers,

We are witnessing climatic catastrophes one after the other in multiple parts of the world. Heavy rains wreaked havoc in the northern parts of Karnataka. Karnataka received a record 279% more than normal rainfall in August first & the second week, the highest amount of rainfall the state has recorded in 118 years. More than 4.7 lakh hectares of crops were reportedly affected by the rains while 18,000 km of roads, 650 bridges, 58,620 houses and 54,000 electric poles were also damaged in the state of Karnataka. The villages were submerged causing loss of lives and livelihoods. It is a great challenge and a humongous task for the government and other bodies to rehabilitate all those affected people and come back to the normal situation.

Around four lakh people have been displaced across the state due to the heavy rainfalls, subsequent floods and landslides.

The torrential downpour was also witnessed in parts of Maharashtra, Kerala, Gujarat, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh in India. Even Hubballi has been the victim of heavy rains, the Unkal lake overflowed, creating flood-like situations in many residential areas in the city.

This is a time when we should help our neighbors, our people by contributing in whichever small way we could. This could be in the form of monetary assistance, tangible relief supplies or by being physically present during the relief operations. We urge all our readers to be kind and cooperative during these hard times.
