June marks the official beginning of our hot season and invites us to slip into a more casual and relaxed time of year. this month, who is eager to help you save on your electric bills. We hope that you will find the following pages resourceful.

Our cover story invites you to help local homeless youth by attend-ing a car show hosted by the Goodyear White Tanks Rotary Club. You’ll be able to listen to some great music, take a chance at winning some nice prizes and feast your eyes on local classic cars. All of this effort from people

cruisin for the Kids

A Car Show for Homeless Youth will be given by Goodyear White Tanks Rotary to benefit the Homeless Youth Challenge on Saturday, June 12 from 10 am to 3 pm in the parking lot in front of Augie’s Sports Grill, located at 15605 W. Roosevelt Street in Goodyear. Local school-age youth need your help and your support in order to stay in local hotels and eat at local restaurants during the summer months when they are not in school. Arizona will soon experience blazing temperatures and these kids will need shelter, as well as meals that are not provided during the school year. These kids need to eat and have a place to sleep on the weekends too. Remember, “Only you can help our local homeless children!”

Come and show your car in support of local home-less youth. Registration is just $10. Auto entries will be judged for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place trophies. Included in the festivities is a raffle for a Phoenix Suns basketball, autographed by Channing Frye with Certificate of Authenticity. Local businesses of all types are invited to set up booths for a nominal fee of $10. Enjoy music, feast on scrumptious food at Augie’s, and mingle among fantastic car

show entries with all proceeds benefiting local homeless youth. Donations of food, clothing and non-perishable items will be graciously accepted. For more information, contact Elizabeth Ridenbaugh of the Homeless Youth Challenge at 623-313-8336 or email her at [email protected].

The Goodyear White Tanks Rotary Club reminds us that the realization of approxi-mately 3,500 homeless high school students just in the West Valley is startling. “These kids need our attention; more importantly, they need our help so they can go to school with-out feeling hungry and have a warm place to sleep at night.” So far, over $12,000 of in-kind donations and cash have come from Summit

Community Church, Kingdom of the Valley Church, Larry Miller Toyota, Shultz Manufacturing, Premier Vending, Wal-Mart Distribution Center, US Bank, Walgreens, City of Goodyear, Estrella Mountain Ranch community, McDonald’s Corp, Elizabeth Ridenbaugh (through independent events with Rotary) and many, many individual donations.

Mark your calendars for a visit to the parking lot in front of Augie’s Sports Grill on Saturday, June 12, so you can come out and support this great cause along with Goodyear White

Tanks Rotary Club.

“Only you can help our local homeless children”

At the tender age of 12, Hanna Atkins, Westar Elementary seventh grader, has won the 1st Tee of Phoenix “Masters Tournament” at the Aguila Golf Course in late April. Her score for the 9-hole event was 29 which included two birdies and a tie for 1st place with the boys in the 11-17 year old range. “I just kept saying to myself, focus-focus, it’s not over till it’s over,” she reminded herself. Hanna’s competition in the tournament included players who ranged in age from 11 to 17 years old. Most surprising to the elementary school student, in regards to her play that April day, was the fact that she beat a 17 year old that she has looked up to for a number of years. “I have dreamed of beating my competi-tion, but didn’t think that I was good enough,” says Hanna.

Hanna recalls feeling anxious before the tournament began because she had just gone to a golf event called the “Golf Fest” at the Raven Golf Course prior to the onset of the tournament. “I was worried about how the distractions would affect my game,” she remembers. Another factor adding to Hanna’s anxiety was the fact that she and her coach had changed a few things about her swing and Hanna hoped that she

hanna atkins age 12 wins masters golf tournament

wouldn’t become mixed up between the “old” swing and the “new” swing. She managed to adapt elements of both and made it work to her advantage. To pre-pare for the event, Hanna gets herself “psyched up” for competition by arriving two hours early in order to warm up by hitting over one-hundred balls. Then, it’s all business and the 12-year-old states that she strategically puts on her “game face.” This time, with the great coaching from instructor Paul Smith, who works with accelerated high school golf teams, Hanna would demonstrate how she grasped the hard work of fixing a few things about her golf game to steal the 1st place title. By the second hole of the tournament, Hanna admits she was having a great game! “It was a par three and I birdied it,” she remembers.

This month is packed with tournaments for the pre-teen. She and her coach continue to perfect each aspect of her game. There’s the Jr. LPGA and the Desert Mirage Junior Open, the Jr. LPGA mid-season and the Father-Daughter tournament, the Tucson City Championship and don’t forget the Summer Sizzler Tournament. Somehow in-between all of the tournaments and golf practices, Hanna will squeeze in her own birthday celebration, some friends’ birthday parties and some relaxing time at home with her family. Best wishes, Hanna, for a suc-cessful tournament season this summer!

ery and returned with impressive statistics for the Wolves. Samantha Johnson dominated at first base, and CJ Broadbent brought a powerful bat, including back to back homeruns to boost her confidence as well as her statistics.

The team had plenty of injury setbacks to overcome early on during the season. Kasia Smith started out early this spring with wrist injuries, while a deep shin bruise suffered by catcher, Tatum Reedy, obtained during the Payson tournament, took several weeks to recover from, before she returned to her

position with full strength. Lenora Brafford was sidelined early in the season when she suffered a broken ankle, halting her excellent job at the plate, and her transformation from outfield to short stop. “In all of these cases, players had to step-up at key times during the season and play other positions and work even harder to obtain our wins,” said Coach Brunghardt. Each and every game, every player on the team was ready to fill someone else’s shoes (cleats), if necessary.

At the time of press, the Estrella High School Varsity Softball Team had concluded an undefeated regular season and earned their second con-secutive title as Regional Champions.

An impressive record of regular season and regional tournament play, 20-0 sets the standard for back to back Regional Championship status for the Estrella Foothills High School Girl’s Varsity Softball Team. “We have truly had a remarkable season, going beyond the expectations of many,” stated Head Coach, Rick Brungardt. He added, “This is truly one of the finest groups of young ladies that I have ever coached.”

In reflection of the recently completed season, Coach Brungardt recalled that Sedona was probably the team that set the biggest challenge for his team. He also remembered the realization that opponents like Desert Edge and Buckeye Union High School, both Division 4A schools, would also present a challenge to the Lady Wolves. “We knew we would have to play our best to get the job done against these opponents….and we did.”

Standouts this season included the pitcher/catcher core, Kasia Smith and Tatum Reedy, who provided the confidence that Coach Brungardt and Assistant Coach, Monica Godfrey, were looking for to light up the score-board, game after game. Many others added to the runs, inning after inning, including Junior, Danielle Silverstein, who returned this season after suffer-ing a traumatic injury last season. Danielle has made a remarkable recov-

the century plant angie Baca/tim gibbons

Three year Estrella residents, Angie Baca and Tim Gibbons, share the bloom of their recently sprout-ed Century Plant. The new plant, brought in by landscapers, has been making amazing transformations. After seeing the spike and growth which evolved to its current status in just four short days, Angie got online and found out some information on the beautiful bloom. She found that the flower spike grows at an incredible rate of 5-6 inches per day and reaches heights of 30 to 35 feet, peaking quickly. As reported by longwoodgardens.org, the amazing Century Plant’s legend confirms that it takes the native Agave Americana one hundred years between blooms. Plants in cultivation can bloom quicker. The century plant uses all of its energy to produce the once in a lifetime bloom.

Big changes are being implemented for the refrigerants in heating and cooling equipment. Beginning January 1, 2010, all of the world’s manufac-turers of cooling and heating systems will be using 100% of the refrigerant called R-410A to replace the refrigerant commonly used up to this point called R-22. Manufacturers are able to sell any equipment they have created before January 2010 with R-22 until their inventories are depleted. After that, all equipment installed will have to use R-410A refrigerant. This change will have an economic impact in the form of increased costs for consumers.

A change was set in motion in 1987 when the “Montreal Protocol of 1987” was established. Known formally as the Montreal Protocol on Substances That Deplete the Ozone Layer, it is an international treaty designed to protect the ozone layer by phasing out the production of a num-ber of substances believed to be responsible for ozone depletion. The treaty was opened for signature on September 16, 1987, and has undergone seven revisions. It is believed that if the international agreement is adhered to, the ozone layer is expected to recover by 2050. It has been signed by 196 states/countries worldwide.

Facts vs. Myths• The refrigerant R-22 has been put in air conditioners and heat pump

systems since 1960. It is being phased out because of the “Montreal Protocol 1987”. According to the US Environmental Protection Agency, R-22 is a greenhouse gas, the manufacturer of which results in a by-product that contributes significantly to global warming.

• The production of R-22 refrigerant is expected to be phased out of production by 2020. This year alone, production of this refrigerant is expected to be reduced by 47% and by 85% by 2015.

• The new refrigerant, R-410A, is designed and constructed to be used for R-410A systems and R-22 systems cannot be retrofitted to operate with R-410A.

• R-410A is a blend of two gases that operates at significantly higher pressures.

• R-410A requires special cylinders, gauges and recovery equipment.

• R-410A leaks generally result in the loss of one of the blended gases and not the other. This means if there is a leak in a system, the remain-ing gas that turns to liquid will have to be removed and destroyed. It will then have to be replaced with fresh R-410A. This is different than what happened with R-22 – if gas was lost then adding a “charge and topping it off ” was a common practice.

What does this mean for repairs? It depends on whether the repair is R-22 or R-410A

• If service or repair of an R-22 system requires the addition of R-22, as long as it is available, these repairs will be able to be made. Due to the decrease in supply of R-22 over the next 10 years, this will result in a cost increase. This increased cost will necessarily have to be passed along to the consumer.

• If R-410A equipment develops a leak requiring repair, this will result in the need to completely remove any remaining refrigerant, have it destroyed and put all new refrigerant into the system. This is because

when this blended gas leaks, there is a portion that is gaseous and another portion that is liquid. When there is a leak it causes the refrigerant to separate and the gas portion to leak out leaving the liq-uid portion. This means that the integrity of the refrigerant has been destroyed and must be replaced.

What does this mean for installation of new equipment? If you have an R-22 split system, where the outdoor condensing unit

needs to be replaced:

• It will no longer be possible to just replace the outdoor condensing unit alone, unless there is some pre-January 2010 R-22 equipment inventory available.

• Based upon the information AirNow has obtained, Goodman is the only manufacturer that still has R-22 equipment available in its Phoenix area warehouses. It is projected that their inventory may only last until June of this year.

• If R-22 equipment is no longer available and you need an outdoor condensing unit, then you will have to replace the outdoor condensing unit as well as the indoor coil or air handler with equipment designed to operate with R-410A equipment. (In some instances, if the indoor coil is only a couple of years old on an R-22 system, it may not be necessary to change the coil or air handler.)

• The increased cost for equipment replacement could be as low as $600 to $2200 depending upon the style and size of the unit.

The Good News• UPGRADE NOW: While supplies last, you could upgrade your

system with an R-22 outdoor condensing unit for a split system. The national average for the life span of a heating and cooling system is 19 years. In Arizona, it is 12. You may want to consider replacement now if your unit is between 12 and 19 years old.

• LINESETS: We can reuse the line set of an R-22 unit if it is in good condition by flushing it out with a special cleaner and there are not any oil traps within it. A myth out there is that we have to change the line set. Replacing the line set can cost anywhere from $477 to $890.

• AIR HANDLERS: If your air-handler fails on an R-22 system, the good news is that new air handlers and their coils are designed to operate with either R-22 or R-410A refrigerant.

Have questions? Consider an internet search on “Montreal Protocol of 1987” or visit the environmental protection agency website at www.epa.gov.

Threshold Student Ministries exists to encourage and equip high school students here in Estrella with a solid foundation. The meat and potatoes of Threshold are discipleship of the students and helping them learn to live in this world as solid, well-rounded and productive members of society. We strive to help them mature and grow through the tough teen years and we have a lot of good clean fun while learning straight from the Bible. The students are involved in the planning and leadership of Threshold on a day-to-day basis. They create lifelong friendships with the people around them. Family is a high priority in Threshold and we want to come alongside the parents and help them with the struggles they face with their teens as they grow through this sometimes awkward stage in their life.

Our gathering is on Sunday evenings from 6 to 8:30 here at Estrella Mountain Church in the main auditorium. We begin with games and live music from our all student band ‘16 Minutes of Fame.’ We then have a mes-sage delivered by one of our leaders followed by breakout sessions where students have the opportunity to process and share their struggles and suc-cesses. Throughout the week, we have small groups (PODs) that meet, as well as monthly fun-filled group events. Our most recent event was a trip to play broomball at Arcadia Ice Arena in Phoenix.

Summer Camp is coming up July 23-25, 2010. All jr. high and high school students are welcome and encouraged to come. Parents, if you want to send your student to a place where they are safe, Threshold is the perfect place for them. Opportunities are opening up for students to begin part-nering with the City of Goodyear and Avondale to do volunteer work in the community and contribute to the lives of teens in and around Estrella Mountain Ranch.

We look forward to seeing you and getting to know you better. Stop by any time or call the church office for more information at 623-386-0300.

painting a Door

Local Resident and Business Partner, Francis Carde of Estrella Household Handyman Shares Tips about Painting

“Painting a door can be quite a chore and can be quite tedious. You might start with one side, wait for drying and then flip the door to the opposite side for painting and edge work.” With a little research and a whole lot of experience, Household Handyman has come up with the fol-lowing tips to help you with your door-painting project.

First, remove door from frame, tack a nail in the center of the top and bottom edges of the door. Then set the nails in notches cut into the top of sawhorses and paint one side. Rotate the door and paint the opposite side. “This technique has proven to be a real time saver,” says the local business owner.

Cleaning up paint brushes following your paint project can also be a breeze. Simply fill a plastic jar (like an empty baby wipes container) with paint thinner. Next, stick the handle through the expansion slit in the top of the plastic container, allowing the bristles to soak in the jar, while suspended, without allowing the brush to touch the bottom of the jar. The hole grips the handle firmly, keeping the brush suspended, and keeping the thinner from evaporating as quickly.

Estrella Household Handyman, LLC has been serving Estrella resi-dents since 2003. “Our customers have been very supportive and loyal,” says Francis Carde. In the spirit of mutual support, Household Handyman offers these painting tips for the fathers in our community. If you need assistance with household services, call Francis at 623-670-2462 or email [email protected].

solicitors in estrella

There has been a recent rise in the number of door-to-door solicitors/ice cream trucks in our community. The following is provided in response to the many questions that the Community Services Office has received. Per city code, licensed solicitors are allowed in our community between the hours of 8 am and 9 pm. There is no way of knowing if the solicitor at your door is licensed or not, unless you ask them. Please, always make sure to check out workers and get valid references before having work done at your home or on your property. Keep in mind that religious groups and Boy/Girl Scout groups do not need any kind of permit. Also, permits for Ice Cream Trucks are usually located on the back window of the vehicle. If in doubt, or if the hour doesn’t seem appropriate for door-to-door contact, the choice is yours to open your door to strangers. You may contact Community Patrol at 602-329-0462 if you would like them to follow-up with a solicitor.

a night to help our homeless children

The Goodyear White Tanks Rotary Club recently teamed up with the Goddard School and the City of Goodyear to bring food and clothing to local homeless youth. Several busi-nesses stepped up to support the effort. A flat screen TV was donated by Schultz Manufacturing for a Movie Night raffle. The Goodyear White Tanks Rotary Club hosted “A Night to Help our Homeless Children” provid-ing 40 volunteers. Personal Gourmet Chef, Chris Cascio, served up some delicious crab, stuffed shrimp, wings, chicken and crab puffs. Walgreens of Estrella/Pebble Creek Parkway donated water and sold raffle tickets for gift certificates. Other prizes included services from David Gerard Salon. MidFirst Bank brought their mobile coin machine and matched donations up to $1,000. All together approximately $3,500 was raised for the home-less youth. See our cover story for an additional opportunity to help young homeless people gain food and shelter for the summer months.

candidate for Justice of the peace submitted by Jeff fine

Greetings to my fellow Southwest Valley neighbors in Estrella. My name is Jeff Fine and I am a candidate for Justice of the Peace in 2010. I was raised in the West Valley and have lived here for nearly four decades. I have also spent over two decades serving my West Valley neighbors as a court administra-tor, judicial officer, law enforcement officer, and military member stationed at Luke Air Force Base. For the last13 years, I have led judicial branch operations for the City of Goodyear, one of the fastest growing communities in the nation. My efforts to improve courts include: state and local committee involvement; interaction with community and government leaders; and teaching court issues. In these roles I have interacted on nearly every issue of concern to local courts and acted consistently to improve their efficiency, effectiveness, and service. I believe courts should provide fair, competent, professional, and prompt service that is accessible and easily understood. I also believe that judges have a duty to promote awareness of the role that courts have and the services they provide. My actions as a servant of the judicial branch reflect these values and my desire to continue in these efforts as your Justice of the Peace. I would be honored to hear any comments you may have about the courts and the elected position of Estrella Mountain Justice of the Peace. Please feel free to e-mail me at [email protected].

Annual Meeting this year, the annual residents meeting will

with warm temperatures settling in around the valley, it is time to turn your irrigation system back on from its winter break. Before turning your system on for the spring and summer months, you need to test it to make sure your plants are being watered effec-tively and water is not being wasted. this not only results in water savings, but money saved as well. here are some helpful tips to assist you in achieving a successful start up of your irrigation system:

1. first, inspect your irrigation system by turning the system on and walking around your yard. make sure water is only being used to water plants and not creating wet spots where plants are not. if you see water leaving the system where no plant is present, you may be able to solve the problem by plugging the ¼” irrigation drip tube. the appropriate plugs are available at any hardware store. also, check the location of drip emitters. position emitters to supply water to the entire root zone, which is typically about 50% larger than the top of the plant. if plants are on a slope, make sure to position the emitter on the high side of the root ball to take advantage of the water flowing downhill.

2. if you have turf, make sure sprinkler heads pop-up and are not stuck in the ground. You should also check to see that heads are pointed in the right direc-tion and are spraying the intended pattern. nozzles can become clogged by sand, rocks or other debris which you may be able to clean out with a screw-driver or pocketknife.

3. Once you have checked that the water delivery system is functioning correctly, move on to your irri-gation controller. sometimes, power failures or other factors can cause the controller to return to a default

schedule. if needed, reset the controller and enter a sched-ule appropriate for the needs of your landscape. You can use the interactive tools at www.wateruseitwisely.com to determine how often and how long the various stations on your controller should run.

4. finally, do a reality check. You want to make sure moisture from your irrigation system is actu-ally reaching the root zone of your plants. to test the depth the water is reaching, use a long screw-driver, piece of rebar or purchase a soil probe. a screwdriver will move easily through most soil when it is wet, but will stop when it reaches dry soil.

as the weather and other factors change, you will need to adjust your watering frequency, days and run time. it is important to adjust your water-ing schedule monthly to account for temperature and moisture changes in the environment. after it rains, turn your irrigation system off completely. monitor soil moisture and carefully observe the condition of your plants and turf before turning the system on again.

there are also a number of resources on the internet that can help you find information on how to maintain your plants and irrigation system. the weather channel (www.weather.com ) has an excellent website with watering information. if you have other questions regarding your own landscape, a great reference is available through the university of arizona, cooperative extension website at http://www.ag.arizona.edu/maricopa/garden/.

whO are the

people in your neighborhood

The Feliciano family recently moved back to Arizona, after living near a Newland community called Mira Bay in Ruskin, Florida. This family has also lived in the states of Michigan, Ohio and New York. Shi admits that she is thrilled that her hus-band, Javier, a Regional HR Manager with PepsiCo has a job that has enabled them to experience a variety of states, but which recently led them back to Arizona - the place they now call home. The Felicianos have settled, this time, in the Fairways and they couldn’t be happier. Shi is a nearly-native Arizonan. She moved to the Valley of the Sun at just five years old. She loves the numerous days of sunshine that this state affords us and even admits to being fond of Arizona’s summer heat. Her hubby, Javier, has roots and fam-ily back in Florida, making visit swaps with family between the two states, lots of fun.

The Felicianos’ home in the Fairways includes a backyard swimming pool, and while Javier and the kids, Grace and Zeke, love splashing around in the pool all summer long, Shi refers to herself as more of a swimming observer, a lounger of sorts, who relaxes by curling-up poolside with a good book. She recently read the entire Twilight series (twice) and also enjoys fiction books by her favorite author, Janet Evanovich. Shi has been a stay-at-home mom for the past 7 ½ years. She graduated from Arizona State University with a degree in French and is an Army Veteran.

Javier’s swimming has a serious side. Besides splashing around in the backyard pool with the kids, the Michigan State graduate also recently par-ticipated in a three-person relay triathlon. In the winter months, you’ll find Javier swimming the lap pool at the Starpointe Residents Club.

Grace, a first grader at Westar elementary shares a bit of the same passions of both mom and dad. She divides her favorite past-times equally, by either burying herself in a good book or splashing about in the backyard pool. Grace’s list of most recent accomplishments includes playing a chameleon in last summer’s play, “Robinson Crusoe,” at Westar Elementary School. Little Zeke, who is just five years old, considers himself the comedian of the family. He announced that he has changed his name to “Mouth,” which represents a character from the classic movie “The Goonies.” He and his sister, Grace, recently took a six-week course in perfor-

mance arts with the City of Goodyear and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Zeke will start kindergarten next fall at Westar Elementary School.

Shi gets involved in the community by playing Bunco at Starpointe and Bingo with two great groups of friends. As a family, the Felicianos have recently enjoyed special events such as Mary Poppins at Gammage Auditorium, The Harlem Globetrotters and Keith Urban at Jobing.com Arena.

When the Felicianos don’t have their noses in a book or their fins in the pool, you might find them playing an X-box 360 game in their basement, which houses a perfect space for summer family games. After school lets out for vacation, the Felicianos will be venturing to Spokane, Washington to visit family and they’re seriously considering taking their very first cruise. You might recognize Javier and Shi as recent winners at Casino Night’s Silent Auction. They won a beautiful glass bowl made by local artist, Harmony Mendelow, and a trip to Mexico, which might accelerate their summer vacation plans.

Kids In The KitchenSchool is out! Many teens and tweens will be home during the day and

rooting through the fridge and cupboards for food. You can either keep your kitchen stocked with quick (but unhealthy) commercially prepared items, have a personal chef stock your fridge and freezer with healthy and ready to heat and eat fare, or you can start your kids on the road to kitchen self-confidence and self-sufficiency by encouraging them to prepare some meals. Having healthy ingredients in the house will help your kids create salads, tortilla roll-ups, and other creations that are good for them. Who knows, they may even offer to make you a meal to show off their skills.

Recently, I was lucky enough to give a cooking class for a group of Girl Scout Cadets (ages 12 – 17). The group was fairly large (15 or 16 girls), and wanted to learn how to make something that could be individualized (especially the vegetarians in the bunch), as well as made by themselves at home. We decided on calzones with homemade pizza sauce for dipping. These recipes are simple and quick, and the girls were thrilled with their creations.

In keeping with the simple and quick theme, I had the girls use Rhodes frozen dough balls for their calzones. While pizza dough from scratch is very easy, it can be a bit time consuming. I also had the girls create their calzones without sauce, and then made sauce in which to dip their delicious pizza pastries.

the calzone and sauce recipes we used are below.

8 Rhodes Texas™ rolls (or 16 Rhodes Dinner Rolls), thawed but still cold

1/2 cup diced pepperoni

1, 2 1/4-ounce can sliced olives

1/2 cup chopped mushrooms

1/4 cup chopped green peppers

1/2 cup grated mozzarella cheese

1 cup heated pizza sauce

1/2 cup(s) onion, chopped

2 tablespoon(s) garlic, minced

2 tablespoon(s) olive oil

1 15 oz. tomato sauce

1 6 oz. tomato paste

1 teaspoon(s) salt

flatten each roll into an 8-inch circle. combine ham, olives, mushrooms, green peppers, and cheese. place 1/4 cup ham mixture on each circle. fold dough over (like a turnover) and seal edges with a fork. place on a sprayed baking sheet. Bake at 350°f 20-25 minutes. serve with pizza sauce for dipping.

**recipe courtesy of rhodes frozen Dough.0 for 30 to 40 minutes.

2 teaspoon(s) oregano

2 teaspoon(s) basil

1/8 teaspoon(s) pepper

sauté onion & garlic in olive oil until tender.

stir in remaining ingredients.

simmer for 30 minutes, stir-ring occasionally.

business spotlight

An educational seminar is scheduled for Gallery #1 in the Starpointe Residents Club on Thursday, June 17th. Stop by between the hours of 10 am and 3 pm to view presentations and participate in a question/answer session, hosted by Solar Eco Energy.

It seems only natural that Michael Campbell, President of Solar Eco Energy, LLC would be eager to help his community save money. In fact, he’s dedicated to finding convenient methods to put Arizona’s 300 days of sunshine per year to work. With the sun’s unlimited energy source, why not take advantage of the low rate of energy in a solar environment? The time is now for transition. The time is here to protect and maintain our environment as we enjoy our desired standard of living. And, just at the right time, there is an abundance of financial incentives, combined with hefty rebate programs from local utility companies to make solar a wise and affordable solution.

Michael came to Arizona in 2003 to pursue a Master’s Degree in Construction Management at Arizona State University’s Fulton School of Engineering. He and his wife, Lois, made a visit to Estrella while Michael was in school, and then bought a home immediately after Michael finished earning his degree. The couple has enjoyed the Estrella community for over five years and now shares their home with two beautiful daughters, Samantha and Sydney.

Michael’s interest in the solar industry started when he lived in California during the “Energy Crisis,” where he became quite interested in renewable energy. He states, “I was absolutely fascinated with the tech-nology and promise of Photovoltaics (PV, Solar Electric). Drawing from both my engineering and finance background and understanding the prom-

ise that renewable energy, solar in particular, held as a viable solution to our insatiable energy appetite, I joined with several other like-minded individuals to found Solar Eco Energy.” While pursuing his passion, Michael and his team offer their clients an honest, high-quality product and service that truly enhances the quality of their lives.

For a free consultation, Solar Eco Energy takes the first step with a site visit and financial analysis. The initial visit includes discussion of the prop-erty owner’s goals, wants and needs. Then, after analyzing energy consump-tion patterns, Solar Eco Energy is able to provide proposals that maintain complete satisfaction for clients. Then it’s on to system design, utility, city and HOA approval before final inspection and customer education begins. The entire process takes approximately 12 weeks, with the bulk of this time-period going to technical approvals. The actual installation process typically takes just 4 or 5 days.

Surprisingly, customers can be refunded 50-75% of the entire cost of their systems from the utility company and government. “Going green is the key ‘feel-good’ benefit. By installing a 5 kilowatt system, a homeowner will offset over 138 tons of carbon emissions. That is equivalent to planting 2 ½ acres of trees or not driving nearly 500 thousand miles. By becoming power independent, both money and our environment will be saved.” Michael Campbell can be contacted at Solar Eco Energy, LLC at 602-312-1400 or [email protected].
