Museum Ice Cream Social August 11
The Sugar Creek Historical Society will host its annual Ice Cream Social on the back lawn of
the Thorntown Heritage Museum on Saturday, August 11 at 6:00 p.m. Ice cream and home-
made desserts will be available for a donation,
and the Thorntown Bluegrass Jammers will pro-
vide the evening’s entertainment. Bring your own
lawn chairs or blankets! Donations received during
this event will help fund museum programs and
maintenance. In the event of inclement weather,
the Ice Cream Social will be held at the Christian
Church.
We hope to see you at this fun and FREE family-
friendly event!
The library will be closed on Monday, September 3 in observance of Labor Day.
Tai Chi for Beginners
Learn Tai Chi in 2018! Certified instructor
Larry Truitt will lead two free 6-week classes
beginning in August. Morning sessions will
meet on most Mondays at 10:15-11:15; even-
ing sessions will meet most Thursdays from
6-7:00. Tai Chi focuses on balance, posture,
and breathing, and students will learn indi-
vidual movements that will be put together
into one complete form. Students are re-
quired to register and sign a waiver form.
Visit the library to sign up!
Taste of Home
Although the library will be closed for Labor
Day, the Taste of Home Sampler will meet on
Monday, September 3 in the library’s room
116. Cooks are invited to submit a recipe of
their choosing, then prepare a dish to bring to
the library to share. Bring table service;
drinks will be provided. This is a great way
to make one dish and sample many! Recipes
can be old favorites or new recipes found in a
magazine, cookbook, or online. Call the li-
brary to register.

Gaming Group
Those who would like to try out some board
games are welcome to join our adult gaming
group! Open to those 14 and older, the
group meets once a month to play table top
games. We’ll meet in the library’s Guinn
room on Tuesday, August 28; game play will
begin at 6 p.m. Library staff will attend to
teach, learn, and play the game(s) with the
group.
August Discussion - Books by Billy Graham
Those who wish to participate in the August book discussion meeting are invited to choose a
book from among the many authored by Billy Graham. Graham wrote over 30 books during
his nearly century-long life; many are available at the library or through Evergreen. Titles
available in the library collection have been displayed across from the adult circulation desk.
Select a book that appeals to you and join the group for a discussion about Billy Graham’s life
and writings.
Book discussion will meet on Monday, August 13 at 1:30 p.m. in the library’s young adult
room; meetings usually last an hour. Light refreshments will be available.
August Writers’ Group
The Thorntown Writers’ Group meets on the
third Tuesday of each month in library meet-
ing rooms. Writers of all ages, interests, and
experience levels are invited to join the
group for discussion and friendly critique.
The group will next meet on Tuesday, Au-
gust 21 at 6:30. Writers may share up to two
pages on any subject. No registration is nec-
essary; light refreshments will be available.
Hope to see you there!
Something. . . Different
Baby Teeth, the debut novel by Zoje Stage, is one of Amazon’s July 2018 “Best Books of the
Month” and has been declared “unnerving and unputdownable” by Lisa Scottoline. Suzette is
a devoted stay-at-home mom struggling with her seven-year-old daughter. Hanna shows her
father Alex nothing but love, while scheming to irritate and manipulate her mother. Bright,
capable, and yet refusing to speak, Hanna can be the perfect Daddy’s Little Girl - but only
when Daddy’s looking. Suzette is slowly losing her mind. Is her daughter possessed or mere-
ly acting out? Check out this intense psychological thriller that’s been called “cunning, sharp,
nasty, and wickedly funny.” It’s currently on the new books shelf, and later can be found at
FIC STA.

Youth Programs Begin August 28
After enjoying a few minutes of rest following summer reading, Miss Kathy and Miss Barb got
right to work planning fall storytimes and programs! Toddler & Preschool Storytime (10:30)
and Adventure Storytime (3:30) will occur on Tuesdays beginning August 28. LEGO Club is
back and will meet at 3:30 on Thursday, August 30.
September’s youth program lineup includes Maker Action Center, Kids’ Bingo, and *new* Mi-
nute to Win It! We’ll have themed storytimes on Tuesdays throughout the month. Kids and
their friends, family, and caregivers can also look forward to another Family Game Night in
September. Look for details in next month’s newsletter!
