MUSE WEBSITE ANALYSIS

BACKGROUNDThe background of the website uses the front cover image from the bands iconic album ‘absolution’

which is a well known symbol of the band, it instantly is recognised by any fan of the band and it

gives the website a personal touch that would be missing if they just used a block colour. Another

part of the background that works really well is that you are able to customise it into any of the album covers you like, which means that you can change the website to match the style of the band that you personally prefer the most, which adds something

to the website that isn't usually there. This background works really well behind all of the text and means that there is always something to see

on the website, with no area looking blank or shabby.

TITLE

This is the options bar at the top of the website, there has been a clear progression over time in the look of websites like this, with them once being packed and enticing to the eye, they are now

sleek, avoiding any over complication, which may suggest a change in the music industry and bands styles. The title in the left

corner acts as a logo for the band, which matches up to their album, showing consistency and creating the bands trademark

image. The fonts are all the same, following the boxy style of the bands logo, giving the website a solid image from the very top of the page. Already there is a chance to customise the page, which shows how the band tries to make the site personal to each fan.

Something which would impress people who feel it shows the bands commitment to giving the fans a chance to express

themselves.

TITLEThe different tabs that a reader can enter follow a similar pattern for every website. By putting news

first the band are enticing you to learn more, which would help people to feel that they knew the band personally. It would also increase the amount of

information being seen, and this page could be good for encouraging people to come to tours. The next tab of tours dates is important to getting a bigger

and better crowd at events, as people who enter this page may never have been thinking about going on

the tour, but through this page they may find out about opportunities they hadn't hear about on other forums. However this doesn’t take a central role on the page because the logical thought would be that if a person knew about the website they would also

know the band, and they'd be visiting the website for other reasons.

PHOTOSThis is something I really like about MUSE’s website and is a collage of pictures of the band, which

showcases all different parts of the band as it flips through a gallery of photos. I like this because it gives an insight to the band that people may not find on other websites, with a mixture of personal

photos taken from website like Instagram as well as some professional shots that have been taken.

Again the titles are following a recurring theme in font and colour, with it being bold and standing out

more than any other font available.

NEWSThis is something that appears beneath the title and photos, and is a link to one of the tabs listed at the top of the page, this one is to the news page, and

features an exciting story that is supposed to excite the fans, and convince them to follow onto the page, which can act as good promotion for the band. This may be considered similar to the bands very own

newspaper, printing all the positive things that happen to the band, creating the impression that everything is positive when it comes to the band,

avoiding any negatives that there are.

EMAIL LISTThis is another area of the website created to form a para-social relationship between the band and the fan, by offering them the chance to learn even more information about the bands live, and giving the chance to be the first to know about the new and exclusive information about the band. All of this is a very good

technique used by the website creators to bring in more publicity for the band. It also increases the amount of information that is being sent out and published by the fans, meaning that they are learning more, which also improves the relationship with the fans.
