Seventh MuharramIt was the 7 th of Moharram. the desertsands of Kerbala werescorhing hot. The water was stopped on this dayfrom reaching the camp of Imam Hussain (a.s.). As

the day went by, thechildren became thirstyand the crys of Al-Atash! Al-Atash! camemore frequent. Thecompanions of ImamHussain (a.s) had giventheir life, they wereshaheed-e-kerbala butthere were no more leftto fight for Islam. ByZuhr, only the family of Imam Hussain was left.Of the remaining able men to fight was a 14year old boy named Qasim. He is the son of our second Imam, Imam Hasan (as). Qasim,sought the permission to enter the battlefieldfrom his mother, Umme Farwah. He then wentto his uncle Imam Hussain to ask permissionto fight. Imam looked at the young boy andsaid "Qasim, you are young. You are the onlychild of your mother. Qasim, you are my

brother's son. I have promised my brother to

look after you. My darling Qasim, you are theimage of my brother. You remind me of Hassan. No, Qasim, no. I cannot allow you todie."

Qasim was disappointed and went tohis mother for help. She reminded him of thetaveez his father had tied to his arm. Qasimopened the taveez, and placed inside found aletter for Husayn, he took the letter to hisuncle. Husayn read the letter from his brother,

Hassan:"Brother Husayn, a day will come when Islamwill need to be saved by sacrifice. Husayn, Iwill not be alive on that day, however my son,Qasim will be there. It is my wish that Qasimshould represent me on that day."Imam looked at Qasim and said "My dearestQasim how can I stop you now. Go, Qasim,go." He took Qasim to Bibi Zainab.

"Zainab, bring me Hassan's abaa andhis turban."Husayn dressedQasim withHassan's abaa(cloak) andturban.

Qasimgoes tobattle.Imam said tohis sister "Zainab! Look at Qasim,doesn't he look handsome? He

Umm Farwa replied,"My son although I dearly love you, I

shall not weep for you. Nothing will make me prouder than to see my son

give his life for Islam".

"Mother,tomorrow Uncle

Abbas, Ali Akbar and I will defend uncle

They werefrightened by thestrength and braveryof such a young boy.The army of Yazidcould not overpower him. Finally acowardly solider camefrom behind andstruck Qasim in thehead with a sword.

Qasim could bear to fight no more,thirsty for three dayshe fell off his horse.He cried out for his

uncle Ya Hussain!Ya Hussain. Hussainand Abbas rushed tothe battlefield. Theenemies saw themcoming and gotscared, there wasconfusion and horsesstarted running allover, the body of Qasim was trampled

by the horses. Hussainkept shouting for hisnewphew Qasim!Qasim! but Qasimdid not respond. When

the enemy withdrewHussain saw the bodyof Qasim scatteredacross the land. Hetook off his abaa andgathered the body of his beloved nephew.Hazart Abbas helpedhim carry it back tothe camp. When theyreached the camp, theImam cried for hissister Zainab!Zainab!, my heart is

broken. I have nostrength left to carrythe body of Qasim.Ask umma Fizza tohelp you take his body

back to the tentSeeing the body of Qasim, they began tocry and do matam for

him.Wa Qasima! WaQasima! WaQasima!..INNA LILLAHE WAINNA ELAIHIRAJEOON.
