Purpose of the mission:

The Istanbul Chamber of Commerce, in concert with the American Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Toronto Marketing Alliance are assembling a Trade and Investment Mission to Istanbul, Turkey. The purpose of the delegation is to strengthen ties between Toronto and Istanbul, and to communicate the excellent growth opportunities that exist here in Toronto.

Economic uncertainty in Europe, and around the world, has made Toronto a "safe haven" destination for entrepreneurs and investors. Supported by the Turkish Ministry of the Economy, Turkish businesses receive state support for international business expansion. It is our mission to make Toronto their first choice.

The delegation will be hosted by the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce, one of the largest Chambers globally, with over 350,000 members.

Proposed Role of the Deputy Mayor:

Deputy Mayor Minnan-Wong, alongside the Deputy Mayor of Istanbul, will affirm Toronto's commitment to welcome international entrepreneurs to our city and to strengthen the civic bonds between our two continents.

Mr. Minnan-Wong will deliver one of two opening addresses to the assembled guests (title: Why Toronto? The benefits of investing in the City of Toronto). Mr. Minnan~Wong will also participate as a panelist alongside other guests discussing Toronta1s strengths as a center for international investment and a destination of choice for new immigrants.

Thank you for contacting me regarding your proposed trip to Istanbul. As you know, under Article ·IV of the Code of Conduct for Members of Council, sponsored travel is a recognized exception to the prohibition on members' accepting gifts and benefits.
