EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

PrintDreams introduced its PrintBrush product concept as far back as 2003. The prototype was initially planned to be the first product to feature the companys revolutionary RMPTTM Full technology, paving the way to the worlds smallest letter-sized printers. Generating massive consumer interest worldwide and earning award-winning industry recognition, RMPTTM Full technology has now come of age. Following intensive research & development over the past six years and significant investment, the PrintBrush is finally set to reach the market. Endorsed by Gartner, Inc. which listed PrintDreams as Cool Vendor 2009, the company has recently signed several new contracts with major global corporations. The PrintBrush 4X6 features state-of-the art Ink Jet and Laser Doppler navigation technologies packed into a pocket-size format. Yet despite its diminutive size, it is able to print full size 4 x 6 photos and other content. Features include a color LCD 1.4 display, a SD memory card slot, a micro USB interface and a 5M pixel digital camera with auto focus and image processing. The introductory price tag will be just 99 Euros (US$139). Random Movement Printing Technology (RMPT) does away with the need for any paper feeding mechanism. Instead, thanks to Philips innovative Laser Doppler sensors, users can print directly onto most substrates, from different weights of plain and photo paper to cardboard, fabrics, plaster, wood and more.

To convenience, the PrintBrush 4X6 adds important environmental credentials. Essentially human-powered and software driven, RMPT printers have very few mechanical components and electric motors as compared to conventional printers. It is estimated that the global adoption of RMPT technology in other printer categories could represent an annual saving of 325,000 metric tons of raw materials. Running RMPT printers could also save 291 terawatt/hours of electricity each year. PrintBrush will tap right into the heart of the expanding digital imaging market segment, said Alex Breton, CEO of PrintDreams. We are more than confident that consumers will love this product. Its introduction is as significant as the advent of the Polaroid camera in its day. Think of it as an ultra-modern, faster digital version with the added freedom and choice of saving and printing out snapshots anywhere you like not just on photo paper, added Mr. Breton. PrintDreams has launched a worldwide Early Bird sales campaign that will last until the end of February: a special allocation of the first 5,000 PrintBrush 4X6 units can be purchased in advance with first deliveries scheduled for May 2010.

INTRODUCTION

A digital camera with a built-in printer or a printer with a built-in digital camera In 2000, one of Europes largest rubber-stamp companies approached Alex Breton, an engineer from Stockholm, Sweden, for product ideas. Instead of dreaming up a new stamp, he designed the PrintBrush, an 8.8ounce handheld gadget that uses inkjets, computer-mouse-like optics and navigation software to print uploaded images and text on any flat surface, including paper, plastic, wood and even fabric. Conventional printers move paper through the machine in large part because its the only way to accurately track the position of the page relative to the print head. With such constraints, Breton realized, a printer could never be narrower than its paperunless the inkjets had an entirely new way to navigate across the page. Thats the allure of the PrintBrush. The device operates more like a computer mouse than a printer. Laser sensors, originally developed by Philips, track the printers movement and pinpoint its position. The sensors continuously emit infrared laser beams toward the papers surface as the user moves the device over it. They then measure the scattering of the reflected beams, whichalong with the beams power fluctuationsdetermines the devices velocity and direction of motion. Even small amounts of reflected laser light are enough to track motion, so the lasers work on almost any type of surface.

PrintBrush 4X6 is the first of its kind pocket sized printer with a built-in camera. The PrintBrush is very easy and fun to you, it will print in color directly onto virtually any flat surface like paper, wood and fabrics. Hold it in your hand and sweep back and forth, just like a brush! PrintBrush camera has a resolution of 5 megapixels, and the printhead is capable of producing a 46-inch full color image at 600dpi.

How It WorksPrintBrush: As the user slides the printbrush across a sheet of paper, optical sensors track the velocity and direction of the printer relative to the page. a controller matches the location coordinates to a pixel map of the document or image and runs algorithms to predict which pixel to print next. It took less than two years to develop the first prototype but nearly a decade more to get it right. With each new version, Breton and the team of optics engineers and other experts he recruited refined the navigation system, most recently replacing LED-based sensors with the lasers. They also added color, which required writing a set of algorithms to quickly formulate the ink combinations needed to produce the appearance of 16 million different shades. By early next year, a PrintBrush with a built-in camera for instant photo printing will hit the market and officially claim the title of worlds smallest printer. Breton will release an even smaller model, the A4, shortly thereafter.

This combination in such a small package seems to be a perfect product.you can take a photo with your camera and then instantly swipe it over some paper to end up with a copy of your picture. 3) To provide instant print it whenever and wherever at lower cost:

2)RMPT LITE: The entire RMPT Technology can be divided into two separate categories depending on performance and functionality. One category is called RMPT Lite described in this page and the other is RMPT Full. Whilst RMPT Full allows all degrees of freedom of movement the RMPT Lite can only respond to one coordinate movement (either horizontal, diagonal or vertical movement) which is always perpendicular to the disposition of the inkjet nozzle array. RMPT Lite is intended for smaller and limited area printouts. RMPT Lite is suitable also for repetitive or very long printout sequences of the same pattern or image. The software needed to execute the RMPT Lite products is very simple and does not request significant requirements regarding computing power. OPTONAV: OptoNav is a high accuracy 3DOF navigation and positioning sensor: .The OptoNav sensor has been developed by PrintDreams as an effort to achieve good quality printouts with its RMPT Technology. It consist of two optical submodules each one with its animaging channel and an illumination channel. OptoNav is a 3DOF (DegreedOf Freedom) optical navigation sensor. This means that it can measure its own position within a plane including rotation and displacement in x and y coordinates. The sensor system is a combination of absolute- and relative positioning measurements.

Application areas The OptoNav sensor has various application areas wherever high accuracy, real-time surface navigation is required. A concrete example would be navigation of free-roving objects or autonomous vehicles complementing DGPS and other navigation systems.

POSEEYE: PosEye is a high accuracy 6DOF navigation and positioning sensor:ThePosEye sensor has been developed by PrintDreams sister company MEEQ AB. There are several similarities between PosEye and PrintDreams own sensor OptoNav. Both of them consist of an optical channel with lenses that conduct light into a CMOS-sensor. Both run several algorithms on some sort of CPU and both output coordinates as a result of their measurements. Working principles of PosEye The PosEye sensor measures the direction of its lines of sight to visible pre-determined reference points. These points may be passive e.g. reflecting tape, or active e.g. diodes. If passive reflective tapereference points are used infrared light is emitted by the PosEye measurement unit. With knowledge of the position of the reference points, in an appropriate coordinate system, PosEye is able to calculate its own absolute position, in six degrees of freedom (6DOF) - x, y, z and three direction coordinates, to a very high accuracy.

Application examples handheld joystick, for example, in order to manually control a robot and move it to a particular spot. position sensor mounted on a robot in the vicinity of its work point. sensor for fixture control.

When the technology is used as joystick to control a robot; the robot performs movements identical in relation to the operator's hand movements. This gives a complete concomitance in a way that is intuitively correct for the operator. The system can operate wireless and can be designed to operate as a joystick withouta platform. When it is used as position sensor on a robot; it gives the robot's pose (position and orientation) in a desired coordinate system, e.g. the workshop coordinate system, independent of the robot. The robot mounted system looks like a small cupola and has the size of a small coffee-cup. The system used for quality assurance in a fixture control, provides a number of quantifiable advantages, like automatic control during production, control of distance, non contact control and dynamic eligible accuracy.

PosEye - Flexibility and possibilities The system measures its own absolute position in relation to a number of reference points, without drifting, and after the first, simple, commissioning, the system defines its exact position directly at power on. The PosEye reference points can be reflected, moved or be hidden without disturbing the result. The system knows its own and its references' correct position and thereby eliminates incorrect references and can alert the supervising system.

PosEye can use several groups of reference points concurrently, which is important for concurrent work against an AGV* duringmovement and against permanent pallets. PosEye can easily be given increased accuracy on a special place by placing the reference points closer to that place, and it is very easy to add or remove reference points.

PosEye can measure its position with an accuracy of 0,1 mm and measure its orientation with an accuracy of 0,1 millirad. PosEye can work with 100 Hz and a delay of 15 milliseconds or better. Electro-optical (IR) sensor system that measures its own absolute position and orientation in relation to one or more groups of active or passive references. Not sensitive to disturbances such as passing items, reflections, mirror references, etc. PosEye works in tough environments e.g. in workshops. PosEye calibrates itself by measuring the reference points' coordinates and directions.No drift, uses low cost references, and several PosEye systems can use the samereferences. High redundancy (the system alerts if some reference has been moved). The work area and the accuracy can easily be increased.

IMPACT AND CHALLENGS IN DIFFERENT SECTORS

The speed of innovation has increased exponentially in our lifetimes. It takes place in an environment of not only exciting potentials for improving the quality of our lives, but also in the disturbing social and environmental trends we face: threatened ecosystems, a widening gap between rich and poor, lack of equal access to knowledge (even in our web-wired world), and a dramatic number of people without adequate shelter, nutrition or income.Impacts of two key trends in contemporary innovation and new technology: 1. Technological advances are increasingly frequently situated in the private sector; 2. Global civil society and local civil society in many parts of the world are beginning to influence technology acceptance and/or rejection. These trends are occurring within the context of a strong global desire for sustainable development. For the private sector this means a growing, albeit patchy, awareness that our strained ecosystems, rising inequality, and rapid expanding human population require a rethink of the manner in which business operates. However, the pressure of profitable returns together with the overarching intellectual property rights system influence which technologies are developed and how. Concurrently, global civil society has begun to organize and take action on some aspects of technology development. In the case of agrobiotechnology (GM crops), global civil society ha for the first time effectively halted a technology's dissemination in parts of the world. This paper takes examples from the agro-biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries. Many other science based sectors of the economy are following similar trends in their technological advances, for example advanced intermediate chemicals, fibres and optics, coatings, etc. However, there are some technology-based sectors, for example information technology, which are not.

FUTURE GROWTH

June 25, 2003 A Swedish company, PrintDreams, the developer of Random Movement Printing Technology (RMPT), today has announced the release of PrintBrush, the world's smallest and only fully format-independent printer. The printer has the length of a normal ball-point pen while its width and height are more or less equivalent to the width of a modern mobile phone. The total volume is less than 300 c.c. and weights around 350 grams. This first version of PrintBrush was designed to fit into a shirt pocket. Internet content, SMS, pictures and other information is downloaded to the PrintBrush from PDAs, mobile phones and laptop computers via a Bluetooth wireless link. Then, by following the RMPT principle the device is hand operated by sweeping it across any type of print media, no matter what its shape, size or thickness. The printout will then start to appear right behind the sweeps. The device takes into account all the parameters of the hand movement, including rotation and sudden changes of speed and acceleration. The resulting image on the printed media is very much like its digital counterpart. Traditional printers are dependent on accurate linear movements and paper-feeding mechanisms. PrintDreams Random Movement Printing Technology (RMPT) translates random motion (hand movements) into high quality text or image print outs.

Potential RMPT applications include scheduling, bar codes, prescriptions and more. In fact it will print almost anything you can imagine on almost any printable surface.

A great breakthrough came a few weeks ago when the company released its OptoNav sensor, which is an extremely accurate optical navigation sensor aimed to further push the RMPT technology to a higher level of print quality and performance.
