FROM THE PRINCIPAL Lisa Morresey

Kia ora koutou Open Day Tomorrow Tomorrow we have our “Open Day” between 9am and 12pm and again between 1.15pm and 2.30pm. You will be shown around the school in small groups. It is a great way to see us in action. It is also a wonderful opportunity to continue the positive conversations around transition to Intermediate School. Hauraki Community of Learning Visit We are also hosting a group of 17 principal’s, from the Hauraki Community of Learning, on Thursday afternoon. They are here to visit our wonderful school and to hear about the work that we have been doing to support the development of our staff and our students in relation to culturally responsive and relational practices. As part of this work we thank you for completing the Rongohia Te Hau community survey. We are in the process of working with staff and students to analyse the Rongohia Te Hau survey data. The initial data is looking overwhelmingly positive. We look forward to sharing the results with you as we identify our strengths and next steps for learning, in the next few weeks. Sports Uniform and PE Gear We do have a regulation MMI PE uniform. This consists of black uniform shorts and a green t-shirt with the school logo on it. This does not include black league shorts, labelled sports shorts, basketball shorts, nor high cut shorts. Please do not be fooled by your emerging adolescent :). It is important that we wear our school uniform with pride. For sport we do issue some code specific uniforms, but otherwise students wear their PE Gear, school hoodie or fleece and plain black tracksuit pants if they have them. We also wear plain black socks with our formal uniforms. No slogans please. Good luck to our hockey and netball teams who play in finals this weekend. Good luck to our choir performing at Baycourt on Thursday night and to our water polo teams who play in the Bay Winterfest on Saturday. I may see you turfside, courtside or poolside, over the weekend. Mā te wa Lisa Morresey

BASKETBALL

Both the Girls A Team and Boys A Team played off, in their respective basketball grand final, on Monday night. Unfortunately, both teams lost by a mere 4 points on the night. MMI Girls A vs TIS 24-28 MMI Boys A vs TIS 27-31 This season was a rebuilding year, so well done to all those basketball players for making it this far. WATER POLO Winterfest MMI AIMS water polo team attended Winterfest, a year 7&8 water polo tournament, held at various pools in Auckland, from Friday the 16th until Sunday the 18th of August. There were 47 intermediate teams competing at the tournament, graded into A, B & C grades and our MMI team came in at 10th position and were competing in the A Grade. It was an awesome event, in which our team developed well, playing against some very tough competition and was a great build up, with some excellent learning for our team heading towards AIMS games. Loads of fun was had by all, both in and out of the pool - with some great team building fun while all staying together for the three days. A big thank you to the parents and coaches for all that goes in to supporting our boys in their sport! TWP U14’s Tournament Three of our boys from the MMI AIMS team, Cody Henry, Logan West and Baxter Moyle, competed for Tauranga Water Polo club, in an Under 14's tournament in Rotorua, for three days over the weekend. Their team, all boys from local schools, won the bronze medal for the tournament, with Waikato, silver and Sea Wolves from Auckland, winning gold. They were up against some extremely tough (and big!) competition, some of whom have been playing together for a year or more. Our boys had never actually played a game together and didn't even know each other's names! Cody Henry received a special award, called a tournament team award, which are awarded to the standout players of the tournament. Nice work Cody!!

Our international department would be grateful if you could consider hosting a student in October.

We have 20 students coming from Japan and only half of these are currently placed.

Our students’ reports from the past have always been favourable, with many MMI students

thoroughly enjoying the experience, of hosting another student from another country.
