How To Use Your MSR Riflescope

Eyepiece FocusingThe eyepiece can be focused so that the reticleappears sharp and black to your eyes. Follow thisprocedure to quickly adjust the focus:

1. Point the scope at the sky or a plain wall andtake a quick glance through the scope. If thereticle appears sharp and black, no furtheradjustment is necessary.

2. If the reticle does not appear sharp and black, take quick glances through the scope whilerotating the focus ring until the reticlepattern is sharp and black.

NOTE: Do not look through the eyepiece as youturn the focus ring. Your eyes will adjust to theout-of-focus condition.

Windage/Elevation AdjustmentThe low profile adjustments knobs feature afinger adjustment for both windage andelevation. Once you have successfully zeroedyour scope, you can reset the zero on your dialswith these simple steps:

1) With turret caps removed, grip scope firmlyand hold knob in place.

2) Put pen or othersmall object intothe small holelocated on the dial.

3) Keeping firm gripon the knob, usethe pen to turn thedial back to zero, lining up thenumber zero withthe white indicatordot. Only thenumbered dial should move – do not allowthe entire knob to move or else you will alteryour windage and elevation zero settings.

Page 4: MSR Riflescopes User Guide - Burris Optics · The nature of ballistics is such that everything is theoretical and if any one of the variables change (altitude, temperature, barometric

NOTE: You do not have to reset the zero on yourdials for your scope to function properly. Doingso can give you peace of mind that your zero isset, plus you can easily confirm if it has moved atany time, but this step is optional.

Parallax/Focus Adjustment– Not available on all models –

Parallax is the apparent movement of the reticlein relation to the target when the eye is notdirectly in line behind the center of the scope.Images from different distances focus in front ofor behind the scope’s reticle. Parallax is morenoticeable with higher magnification scopes.

Parallax is adjusted by rotating the parallaxadjustment ring located on the objective bell. When the scope is set parallax-free for thedistance you are viewing, you should be able tomove your head side-to-side or up and downwithout seeing the reticle move appreciably inrelation to the target.

Mounting the ScopeWe recommend high-quality rings and bases, like the Burris Xtreme Tactical Rings and XtremeTactical Bases. Quality components ensure thatyour scope will remain safely and securelymounted, and will provide the maximumaccuracy. Use care when mounting your scope asdamage can be caused by improper mounting.

Care & MaintenanceMSR Riflescopes are fully waterproof andfogproof. In the event that the lenses aresubjected to dust, dirt or mud, follow thesesteps to clean and protect the lens surface.Failure to remove grit before final cleaning issure to damage lens coatings.

Coarse dirt/debris must be removed from thelens surface. The most convenient way toclean a lens surface is to use a Lens Pen.Position the scope so particles will fall awayfrom the lens, and then use the Lens Pen orsoft brush to gently whisk away the debriswhile blowing on the lens to dislodge theparticles. For heavy dirt, like dried mud, use aspray of clean water or lens cleaning fluid toremove the dirt.

Your Burris riflescope will provide a reliableperformance given reasonable care andtreatment. All moving assemblies arepermanently lubricated. Only occasionalcleaning of the outside of the scope and theexterior lenses is required. Never disassembleyour scope. Disassembly by anyone otherthan our factory will void the warranty. If youhave any other problems with your riflescope, please contact Burris Customer Service.

MSR Riflescope Reticles

Ballistic Plex™The Ballistic Plex reticle is a copyrighted Burrisdesign on the lower vertical crosshair thatcompensates for bullet drop. The Ballistic Plexreticle is set to provide precise aiming from 100yards to 500 yards. Examples of the actual bulletpath for many of the most popular cartridges areavailable for download on our website atwww.burrisoptics.com.

The Ballistic Plex reticle is extremely usefulregardless of the cartridge you choose to shoot.MSR models are configured for a specific load, but each ballistic line represents some exactyardage for whatever cartridge you shoot. It onlytakes a simple trip to a long-distance shootingrange to make your own yardage chart tocorrespond to each ballistic line for your cartridge.

Simple to Use1. Sight-in exactly at 50, 75,100, or 200 yardsdepending on your cartridge and bulletselection.

2. Set your scope to the highest magnification.

3. Determine the bullet path of your cartridgeat the climatic conditions you will beshooting. We highly recommend actual firingat each distance increment for best accuracy.Record the results of your rifle/cartridgecombination for future reference.

4. Determine the distance to your target andselect the corresponding ballistic line. Slightholdover or under may be necessary tohandle in-between yardages.

Practice Makes PerfectThe Ballistic Plex is much more accurate thanguessing holdover and faster and morereassuring to most shooters than usingtarget-type adjustments. The nature of ballisticsis such that everything is theoretical and ifany one of the variables change (altitude, temperature, barometric pressure, humidity, bullet design, barrel length, chamber fit, seatingdepth, etc.) so does the ballistic performance. For maximum accuracy, practice at long rangesunder similar conditions to those which youwill experience in the field.

Technical TipFor maximum accuracy at long ranges, sight inat a longer range such as 400 yards using the400-yard ballistic line. This will decrease theamount of long-range error that can occurunder various environmental conditions.

Shoot ResponsiblyLong-range shooting is extremely challengingand can be very rewarding. But along with itcomes tremendous responsibility, especiallywhen hunting. To ensure you take ethical shotsat longer ranges, it is essential to know theyardage to an animal and your wind conditions. For these reasons, we strongly encourage thatyou practice to determine your own shootingcapabilities and do not shoot beyond them inthe field.
