Term 3, Week 6 www.northstar-p.schools.nsw.edu.au 28th August 2020 Learning To Live Kindness, Respect, Responsibility and Safety Principal’s Report As we move into Week 7 of Term 3, it is important that we remind ourselves to ‘take stock’ of the complexity that this year has brought to our way of life at North Star Public School. We should be very proud of how well we have navigated our way through these uncertain times together. Our priority as a school, has been to ensure minimal disruption to student learning and maintain our high expectations in terms of student attendance and application to learning. Well done NSPS! This week marks School Administration and Support Staff (SASS) Appreciation Week. At North Star Public School, we are exceptionally fortunate to have such dedicated and hard- working SASS staff and we are very grateful for their ongoing commitment to making our school a safe and welcoming place for our students to grow and learn. Thank you to Mrs Bush, Mr Bush and Miss Beau Jesser for everything you do for our school, you are very much appreciated! North Star Public School Kindness, Respect, Responsibility and Safety Parent Satisfaction Families were recently sent a link for the Tell Them From Me survey and I encourage all families to complete this at your earliest convenience. The survey will remain open until Friday 11 th September and will provide the school with important feedback as we move into our next School Improvement Plan. Thank you in advance for your valued contributions as we strive towards school excellence together. School Uniform School Photos were held recently and I am particularly proud of the way in which students presented to school and followed instructions during our photo session. A friendly reminder that all students must wear their full school uniforms, including broad rim hat, at all times, unless an exemption has been provided due to special circumstances. A reminder that students must bring a water bottle to school each, which is able to topped up using the bubbler. Students are not currently permitted to drink directly from the bubbler. Have a lovely fortnight, everyone. Ms Jesser Principal

What’s On in K

Hello from kindergarten! We have had a busy week this week settling back into our Kindergarten classroom with Mrs Mooney. We continued learning about sustainability in Science – and discussed waste and how we can reduce our waste in our daily lives. We also designed and decorated our own recycling truck using the motto ‘Be green, keep your recycling clean.’ In Literacy we focused on the letter S, I, T, P, C, K, A and N. We had to think very carefully to come up with words that begin with these letters. We also wrote a narrative this week. Students had to come up with their own character, problem and solution in their story. We had Issy the Lizard, Brett the Batman, Simon the Dinosaur, Bella the Cheetah, Sam the Eagle and Bill the Gorilla! Such great imaginations in Kindergarten! Lastly we surprised Mrs Mooney yesterday by singing our days of the week song without any help! We have been practising lots! Mrs Mooney might need to find a song now to teach us the months of the year!

What’s On in 1/2 This week in the Stage 1 Room we have busy researching further into waste production in our homes, the country and around the world! The students learnt about ways we can recycle, the importance of recycling and how it effects the environment. We participated in the Gwydir Shire Council recycling truck design competition, good luck everyone! In Literacy our students practiced writing formal letters to friends and family using correct structure. The work they produced was amazing and I am very proud of their efforts. We practiced locating nouns, proper nouns and pronouns in stories and they grew more confident over the week, try giving them a quiz at home! In Numeracy this week we looked deeper into 2D shapes and 3D objects. The students worked hard to recognise and name various 3D objects and explain the features. We participated in a fun activity to find 3D objects around our school and filmed ourselves explaining what 3D object they resemble. Watch the Facebook page to see the final product! We celebrated a very special birthday, Happy Birthday Emily-Jane!

Have a safe and relaxing weekend,

Miss Rhymes

What’s On in Years 3-6 Year 3-6 have been working exceptionally hard on their Multi-cultural Public Speaking speeches this fortnight. They have had the opportunity to present these to their peers at this week’s assembly and I am very pleased with the progress they have made in enhancing their public speaking skills and further developing their written content. Topics including ‘Racism’, ‘Breaking Down Barriers’ and ‘Colour Matters’ have provided the platform for rich and engaging discussions within the class, with students sharing some very insightful ideas.

Our student-led art session saw the creation of some colourful tornadoes, and students were also working hard to estimate, then calculate discounted/inflated prices in Maths. It is wonderful to see the class really making some meaningful connections with their learning and the world around them.

Well done, Year 3-6.

Thank you to Krystle Phillips and Rachel (and Lettie) Watkins for volunteering their time in the canteen both last week and this week. Whilst we are not currently able to have all parents on site, it is lovely to have some friendly faces in the canteen each week. We thank you very much for your volunteerism at NSPS, it is certainly appreciated.
