INTRODUCTION• Many theories prevail about the

creation of earth.Amoeba,a unicellular organism is the first living being created on earth.Through gradual evolution,it developed into aquatic, amphibious,Reptiles,aves and mammals. This evolutionary theory was discovered by charles darwin.

• ORIGIN OF MAN: Mammals are considered the greatest among the living beings.Scientists are of the view that mammals were the ancestors of man. In course of time,they began to walk with two legs. These animals are considered as primitive man.His name was Homosapiens. On the basis of the evolutionary theory.Darwin says that man came from monkey.Neandarthal man of germany looked like monkey.

OLD STONE AGE•

The paleolithic period is dated roughly from 300,000 B.C.Fearing animals and natural calamities,they lived in caves. They led nomadic lives. They wandered in search of food. Thus they were Food gatherers.Their food were roots,fruits and meat.Stone implements were used for hunting animals, birds and fish.Crude weapons such as hammer,chopper,spear and axes were used by them.

• SOCIETY: The corporate life of the paleolithic people led to establishment of social institutions.They lived and hunted in groups.Barks of trees,leaves and clothes made of animal skin were worn by them.

RELIEF

• The paleolithic man buried the dead.They believed in life after death.Sorcery and followed several superstitious ideas.They worshipped natural gods.

• DISCOVERY OF FIRE; The discovery of fire revolutionised man’s life.It came by accident when man rubbed two pieces of flint.The of the fire touched the dry leaves and twings and burst into a flame.They used fire to cook the food,to warm themselves and to frighten wild animals.

ART• They decorated the caves with

paintings. They painted different poses of animals. Painting of man and women also finds a place in these caves.Cave painting stand as a testimony of the development of art of the primitive people.paleolithic art was the product of mangico-religious sites connected with hunting.

• NEW STONE AGE: The new stone age is dated from 15,000 B.C. to 5,000 B.C.he living conditions of men improved.This age is also known as the ‘Age of progress.’ The people who adopted nomadic life learnt to follow a settled life and developed village communities. They made smooth polished instruments of stone.

AGRICULTURE• The neolithic people practiced

agriculture.They used the wooden plough.The grew wheat and vegetables.Thus food gatherers became food produces.

• DOMESTICATION OF ANIMALS: Goats, cattle and ass were tamed by them.These were used by the people for their own purposes.The taming of the dog was a great help to man in his hunting.Pigs and camels were also domesticated.

• RELIGION: They were afraid of nature and to save them selves they wholly depended on some super natural powers.Ceremonies were observed to please such natural forces.During natural calamities they resorted to animal sacrifices.
