Market Highlights:1. In its latest report issued last week, the World Bank downgraded its outlook for global economic growth this year amid a broad-based slowdown in emerging markets and softer output in the US, but upgraded its forecast for India. The bank expects the world economy to grow by 2.8%, 0.2 percentage point slower than its January estimate. For the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, the Bank has cut its GDP growth forecasts to 2.2% from 3.3% forecast in January, saying oil importers are not benefiting significantly from lower oil prices, exporters are losing from the price drop, and the region›s security situation will remain fragile.India, however, is one of the few countries for which the World Bank has upgraded its forecast. The bank expects India to be the fastest-growing major economy in 2015, expanding by 7.5% and outpacing China in 2016 and 2017. China is projected to grow at 7.1% this year.2. This month’s data releases from the major oil forecasting agencies have been dominated by the IEA’s decision to hike its 2015 global demand growth outlook by a substantial 285,000 barrels/day (b/d). Last month, the IEA was forecasting growth this year of just over 1.1 million b/d, while now this figure stands at 1.4 million b/d, thus becoming by far the most bullish of the forecasting agencies. Citing positive global economics, low oil prices and a harsher winter than usual in the typically slow-growing OECD countries, the IEA estimates demand growth at 1.7 million b/d for the first quarter of this year, but slowing to an annual increment of 1.2 million b/d in the fourth quarter.OPEC left all of its estimates unchanged from previous month forecast, seeing growth averaging 1.18 million b/d this year. The EIA meanwhile revised up its forecast slightly to 1.25 million b/d, as its confidence in US demand growth this year has increased since last month. 3. Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) has finalized its July 2015 to June 2016 jet fuel term export contracts at slightly lower levels (approx. 8%) than the January-December 2015 contracts , industry sources said last Wednesday. Term buyers are said to include European major Royal Dutch Shell, Swiss trader Vitol and US bank Morgan Stanley. ADNOC failed to award July 2014 to June 2015 term volume last year, diverting production into the rapidly growing domestic aviation market, but has seen jet output swell since its new 417,000 barrels per day (BPD) Ruwais West refinery came online in February.4. The independent terminal operator Vopak has sold its four terminals in Sweden to Alberta-based energy and infrastructure firm Inter Pipeline Inter Pipeline for 865 million

Swedish kronor ($105 million). The total capacity of the terminals is about 7.4 million barrels and this transaction will increase the Inter Pipeline’s total storage capacity in Europe to about 27 million barrels. The four sites are at Gothenburg, Malmo, Sodertalje and Gavle. The largest of the four, the 5.7 million barrels Gothenburg terminal, provides gasoline storage and blending services for the retail markets in Sweden and Finland, while the other three are primarily for petrochemicals distribution, bitumen storage and supplying jet fuel to Arlanda airport near Stockholm.

Bapco Successfully Completes ISO 14001 Surveillance Audit

Bapco’s EHS Committee held its monthly meeting for the month of June 2015, and the following issues were discussed:• There were no Non-Lost Time Injuries (NLTI’s) or Lost Time Injuries (LTI’s) during May 2015; however six first aid injuries were recorded during May 2015. YTD there have been 4 NLTI’s and 17 First Aid injuries.• A presentation was made on the four NLTIs during 2015, highlighting the results of the investigation reports and recommendations to prevent recurrence. It was re-iterated that greater emphasis must be placed to identify the root causes of all incidents; this will ensure the identification of appropriate and effective actions to prevent recurrence of such incidents.• 23 Process Safety Incidents were recorded during May 2015, out of which 6 have been classified as Tier 3 incidents as per API RP754 standard. There was one

Refinery Reliability Clock (RRC) reset this month. OPD North Reliability Clock was reset due to shutdown of 2HDU to carryout essential repairs on exchangers and to maintain product quality specification. This reset was after a continuous run of the clock for 154 days.• There were 11 vehicle accidents during May 2015, 6 involving Bapco and 5 contractor drivers. 4 accidents were due to Bapco driver fault. YTD there have been 54 vehicle accidents compared to 47 in 2014. The increase in the total number of accidents compared to last year was noted by the EHSC; the EHSC discussed whether defensive driving should be mandatory for all Bapco drivers, a proposal is to be presented at the next EHSC meeting. Main focus will be placed on Motor Vehicle Safety for contractors as they are slowly on the decline in performance.• There were 16 planned flaring events due to the

shutdown activities and 3 unplanned flaring events during May 2015. The Environmental Performance Index (EPI) currently stands at 6.05 vs. target of 7. We must continue with our efforts to reduce unplanned flaring, and also improve the performance of all the measures in the EPI in order to achieve our target.• A presentation was made on the findings of a verification audit on the recent “safety stand down” which was declared on 28th May 2015. The verification audit highlighted that overall there was a good understanding of the “stand down” objectives, however, some non-technical areas did not conform to the requirements. It was emphasized that compliance with “stand down’ must be adhered by all as this is an important tool in communicating and discussing the shortfall in our EHS performance.

Let’s Live in Safer Homes

Conducting of Operations Safely The Many Benefits of Eucalyptus

“Healthy Life” Drinking Water Campaign Held

We think that our homes are the safest place where we are away from all sources of injury causing hazards. In fact, unfortunately your home is the place where accidents are most likely to occur, about one third of

all injuries happen in the home and everyone should be aware of the dangers in the home so that accidents can be avoided. The power of BBS (Behavioral Based Safety) is that it can be applied at any place we go and not only at work. Number of accidents and injuries will reduce dramatically if we change our At-Risk behaviors and follow safe practices. There are several ways to help prevent injuries in the home, including supervising your child, being aware of the risks, creating a safe environment and

using safety equipment. We will hereby cover two of those hazards and recommend approaches to prevent associated risks and injuries:Slips, trips and falls:Slips, trips and falls are the leading cause of home injuries and death. Try these strategies:• Make the bathroom a no-slip zone: The bathroom is a slippery place, handles to hold on and no-slip bathmats or stickers are a big help.• Safety-proof stairs:

• Stairs can be made safer with non-sakid surface and a good handrail to hold on to.

• Remove clutter from stairs and walkways; do not store things on them.

• Stairs inside and out should have handrails, preferably on both sides.

• Have good lighting over stairs.• Toss the throw rugs: Throw rugs are a big tripping hazard for young and old people. At least, tape or tack them to the floor.• Leave a light on: Ideally, have night-lights in

bedrooms, bathrooms, and halls.• Make windows safe: Window

screens are not strong enough to prevent falls.• Install window guards with quick-release

mechanisms (in case of fire) on upper floor windows.• Keep furniture away from windows, especially

in children’s room, and always watch children around windows.• Using stepladders: When trying to get to things which are out of reach, always use a stepladder:

• It should be of the right height.• Check stability and it is always better if someone

assists you by holding it.• Ensure that all ladder feet are on a firm, level and

non-slippery surface.• Keep the stepladder close to the work.• Face the stepladder when ascending or

descending.• Maintain a firm grip.

In January 1997 there was an explosion and fire in a hydrocracking unit in a refinery in California. A pipe in the unit ruptured releasing a flammable mixture of hydrocarbons and hydrogen, which ignited resulting in a fire and explosion. There was one fatality and 46 people were injured. One of the causes was excess temperature in one of the hydrocracking reactors. The specified maximum temperature in the reactors was 800ºF (425ºC), and the system was supposed to be shut down if the temperature exceeded this value. The reactor and the pipe which ruptured were believed to have reached a temperature greater than 1400ºF (760ºC).Previous temperature excursions in excess of the specified 800ºF (425ºC) maximum had occurred, but the system had not been shut down. This led operators to believe that these excursions were acceptable. Also, some of these temperature excursions were not investigated, and recommendations from those that were investigated were not all implemented. In April 1998 an explosion followed the release of flammable chemicals from a 2000 US gallon batch reactor into a building in a specialty chemical plant in New Jersey. Operators were unable to control the temperature of the batch, and the runaway reaction partially vented through the reactor manway into the production building. 9 people were injured, 2 seriously, and chemicals were released into the surrounding community. It is believed that the initial temperature of the batch was higher than normal, making it more difficult for operators to control the batch temperature with the available cooling. In 8 of the previous 32 batches produced, operators had difficulty in controlling the batch temperature. The temperature and

the rate of temperature rise for individual steps of the process were beyond the limits specified by the procedure. In some cases, the temperature exceeded the maximum range of the reactor temperature recorder (150ºC or 300ºF). In those batches, operators were able to regain control of the batch temperature without a runaway reaction. These temperature excursions were not investigated, and no action was taken in response to them. What can you do?Although these two incidents occurred in completely different types of manufacturing plant, they have one important thing in common. In both incidents, the process had exceeded specified safe operating limits during operations before the incident. The abnormal conditions became accepted – this is called “normalization of deviation.” These warning signs were either not investigated, or actions recommended by the investigation were not implemented. “Conduct ofOperations” can be summarized in two simple concepts: (1) Say what you intend to do (procedures), and(2) Always do what you say. This means, for example, that if your operating procedures say to shut down if a critical safety parameter exceeds a specified value, you must always take this action!• Know what the critical safety process parameters are for your plant, know the consequences of exceeding them, and know what to do if they are exceeded.• Always take the required actions if critical safety parameters are violated.• If critical safety parameters are exceeded, report it to management so an appropriate investigation can be done.

Penspen Expands Middle East Offering

Building new links and boosting bilateral relations between key market players is crucial to achieving sustainability in energy, said industry experts at a private event for the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition & Conference (ADIPEC).Speaking to an audience of 90 industry professionals and decision makers at ADIPEC’s prestigious ‘Ambassador’s Day’ event, Mr Ali Khalifa Al Shamsi, Director of Strategy & Coordination at ADNOC and ADIPEC 2015 Chairman, and Mr. Saif Ahmed Alghfeli, CEO of Al Hosn Gas and ADIPEC 2015 Co-Chairman, joined members of ADIPEC’s Executive Committee and the Middle East Petroleum Club, as well as senior representatives from 50 countries to emphasize the critical role that international relationships play in meeting the growing global energy demand.“The annual Ambassador’s Day is an ideal platform to emphasise the importance of integrating international business and government efforts in achieving sustainability in the energy industry,” said Mr. Al Shamsi. “This year’s event will bring industry leaders together from across the world to demonstrate how best industry practices can be implemented through productive cooperation.”“In order to secure energy resources for generations to come, we need to apply innovation in everything we do, and this can only be achieved by sharing knowledge and expertise,” said Mr. Alghfeli. “As an oil and gas industry hub that provides security and connectivity, Abu Dhabi offers an ideal setting where the brightest minds in the industry come together to engage in constructive discussions that can pave the way to a sustainable energy future.”Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, hosted by the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, organised by dmg events, and supported by the UAE Ministry of Energy and the Abu Dhabi Chamber, ADIPEC 2015 will take place from the 9thto 12thNovember, at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre. The pioneering energy event is poised for continued growth, expanding to 110,000 gross square meters – a 10,000 square-meter increase from last year, including a purpose-

built Offshore, Marine & Heavy Equipment Zone for maritime exhibitors. The number of countries participating in ADIPEC 2015 is also set to surpass last year’s record of 20 international pavilions, 18 National Oil Companies, and 17 International Oil Companies. Nigeria, one of the world’s leading oil exporters, is one of the countries to confirm presence at ADIPEC this year, with a dedicated pavilion representing key businesses from the industry. According to the US Energy Information Administration (EIA), Nigeria is Africa’s largest oil producer, and sits among the world’s top five exporters of LNG.“Partaking in ADIPEC has proven to be valuable to us from the time of our first participation in 2013,” said Mr. Ibrahim Auwalu, Nigerian Ambassador to the UAE. “The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation looks forward to this event on an annual basis for the numerous opportunities it provides. We are always impressed with the quality of content at the exhibition and conference, and this is clearly reflected in the growing number of exhibitors and attendees year on year.”Japan, one of the world’s largest consumers of natural gas and petroleum, is another nation set to participate in ADIPEC 2015. The EIA indicated that the government’s energy strategy encourages Japanese businesses to increase global energy exploration and development projects to secure a stable supply of oil and natural gas.“The Middle East is an important region for us, as it provides nearly 80 percent of our oil supply. ADIPEC gives us an opportunity to connect with leading suppliers and build essential relationships in the region,” said Mr Takuya Maeba, Second Secretary at the Embassy of Japan to the UAE. “Our State Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry attended the event last year and expressed the contentment of his participation. This year, the Japanese Oil Development Co., Ltd. looks forward to participating again, and will be joined by a number of other Japanese organizations.”With global demand for energy expected to grow by 37 percent by 2040, countries are increasingly looking to energy-related events to explore viable options for securing sustainable resources. Thailand, for instance, is considering participation in ADIPEC this year for the first time. While the country is a significant oil and natural gas producer, it also relies on imports to sustain the nation’s rising fuel demand.“Technology and innovation are key to enhancing oil and gas exploration and production efforts,” said Mr. Tachasit Prasittirat, First Secretary at the Royal Thai Embassy in Abu Dhabi. “Events such as ADIPEC can offer important insights pertaining to the adoption of the latest innovations to evolve our energy sector.”ADIPEC 2015 is expected to attract a higher number of attendees compared to last year, as well as 7,000 delegates, and 2,000 exhibitors from across 120 countries in its largest event to date.
