Investing in Student Success
The purpose of the levy is to fund and support key operational needs and
new capital efforts
Select FY 2016 Needs
• School Renovation Projects
• Teacher Retirement Fund and Minneapolis Employee Retirement Fund
• Adult Basic Education and Early Childhood programming
• Funds for Police Liaisons, Drug Prevention and Gang Resistance education program
• Debt service on bonds

Why is the Levy Important?
• One of the highlights of the proposed funding for FY 2016 is updating six facilities for our students
– The updates provide our students with the tools they need to succeed
– In conjunction with Acceleration, these efforts support our commitment to college and career readiness for each student in our care
– It’s time to take bold action to support our students; they deserve and can achieve more

2016 Levy Recommendations
• Recommendations are based upon preliminary levy projections and increase this year to allow for this important capital expansion of $155M
• If the maximum levy increase is set at 4.5% to $179.6M homeowners would see moderate increase based on the market values of their homes:
$150K value increase tax by $2.18 monthly or $26.19 per year
$300K value increase tax by $5.01 monthly or $60.10 per year
$450K value increase tax by $7.78 monthly or $93.33 per year

expansion plans and ongoing capital needs.
Final levy numbers will be established over the coming months and approved by the
Board of Education.
