Øystein Baadsvik is the only tuba virtuosoto have carved out a career exclusively asa soloist, rather than becoming a memberof an orchestra or accepting a teachingpost. His multi-faceted musical career as a soloist, chamber musician, lecturer andrecording artist has taken him all overthe world. The unique virtuosity andmusicality Øystein Baadsvik brings to thetuba has established him as the exemplarof the instrument. He studied under thecelebrated tuba players Michael Lind andHarvey Phillips and with the legendaryArnold Jacobs. Øystein Baadsvik’s inter-national career began in 1991 when hewas awarded two prizes at the presti-gious Concours International d’ExécutionMusicale in Geneva.

His international engagements include per-formances with orchestras such as the OsloPhilharmonic Orchestra, Bergen Philhar-monic, Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra,the Taipei National Symphony Orchestra,Singapore Philharmonic and MelbourneSymphony Orchestra. Baadsvik has perfor-med in some of the most famous venuesin the world and 2006 made his New Yorkrecital debut at Carnegie Hall.

He works constantly to expand the musicalaspects of the tuba and has developed newtuba-playing techniques that have beenused in a number of more recent worksfor the instrument.

Baadsvik is a highly sought after teacherand lecturer by universities all over theworld and has been a guest lecturer atmore than 40 major universities and colle-ges in the USA such as Juilliard, IndianaUniversity and Cleveland Institute of Music.He is also in great demand as a conductorand has conducted several major Scandi-navian professional orchestras.
