Thank you both for your wonderful work!
Ladies and gentlemen, girls and boys—welcome to our production of Mother Goose. It’s lovely to see so many of you here today to support us—it makes all the hard work worthwhile. We’ve had a lot of fun in rehearsals so we hope that comes across in today’s performance and that you all go home with a smile on your face.
I am often asked why we don’t do a pantomime every year. The reason is that pantomimes are considerably harder to produce, take about six months to organise and involve approximately 60 people on-stage, back-stage and front of house. If we did a panto every year we wouldn't have the capacity to put on other productions such as our one-act evenings, plays and revues which I know are well received by our audiences. I hope that explains why, but rest assured we recognise that our audiences really enjoy them so as a group we will aim to perform a panto every two years.
Shipham Players forms an integral part of the community and since we formed in Jan 2006 we have been able to provide young and old with the opportunity to get involved in all aspects of amateur theatre as well as providing the wider community with quality entertainment. Proceeds from our productions are used to fund future productions, but we also donate a substantial sum to local causes and individuals. In 2014 we donated £200 to Shipham Football Club to purchase five-a-side goal posts, £250 to Shipham Village Hall Trust to purchase some tables and £100 each to two of our junior members to help fund an educational school trip to New York. If you know of any local cause looking for a small injection of cash please contact a member of the committee who will help you with your request.
The success of Shipham Players is down to the dedication of its members but as with any small organisation we are always looking for fresh faces. So if you would like more information on how to join and what's involved please contact one of the committee members or come along to our AGM which will be held on 4th March 2015.
For now though, all you need do is sit back, relax and enjoy the show. But don't forget to cheer the heroes and boo the villains! Oh and you'll need your singing voices as well!
