Mobility Systems and Technologies for the 21st Century

*Provisory name

Background

• Announced in Budget 2016-17, 800M$ (6 sectors)

• Launched in 2017-18, 950M$ (7 sectors)

• High-growth priority sectors• Advanced manufacturing

• Clean technologies

• Digital Technologies

• Agri-Food

• Health bio-sciences

• Clean resources

• Transportation and Infrastructure

2

Goal and Objectives

• To accelerate the growth and development of business-led innovation, translating the strengths of our innovation ecosystems into new commercial and global opportunities for growth and competitiveness

• Reinforce innovation ecosystems through collaboration and stronger linkages (Industry, Governments, RTO) and by addressing gaps

• Moving the needle : BERD, Jobs, Exports, Revenues, Business creation and ventures…

• Initiative KPIs : number of projects, value of investment, number of businesses participating, number of product or processes developed, rate of employment growth for SME participating

3

The Format

• 3-5 Super clusters ≈ 125-250 M$ over 5 years, matched by industry)

• Regionally anchored, national in scope

• Fostering intersectoral collaboration, benefits beyond cluster members

• Broad and diverse membership• Large, medium and small businesses + post-secondary institution• First phase : 4 businesses (2 large, 1 medium, 1 small)

• Funding channelled through not-for-profit organization

• Making the case for how the funding can generate transformative results and lead to the growth of a world-leading supercluster

(ex. MACH)

Partnerships for scale. Activities serving a target

group of cluster firms to enable their growth, including

by increasing domestic demand for cluster products

and services or by facilitating expansion, such as:

• linking start-ups with strategic partners (e.g., ‘pitch

days’)

• offering business mentoring, consulting and

coaching

• supply chain development or integration efforts for

cluster SMEs with local anchor firms

Access to innovation

On-line Access to Faciliity

IP Acquisition

Access to innovation. Investing in and providing

access to assets, services or resources that

benefit a range of cluster firms over a period of

time, such as:

• support for access to specialized technical

services

• installation of and access to dedicated

laboratory or cutting-edge equipment

• acquisition and assertion of jointly held

intellectual property
