BANDON — Everyone is welcome to come and enjoy a free meal on Christmas.

Bandon Holiday Meals volunteers will be serving the 2019 Christmas meal from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 25, at The Barn, located at 1200 11th St. SW in Bandon.

Holiday Meals started more than 40 years ago as a way for the community to enjoy the holiday with one another and get to know their neighbors, and that is still the spirit of the event. Volunteers and businesses donate food items and/or time to serve community members. The meal consists of turkey and ham, mashed pota-toes and gravy, stuffing, yams, green beans,

coleslaw, cranberry sauce, rolls, assorted des-serts and beverages (coffee, juice, water). At this year's Thanksgiving meal, almost 500 meals were served or delivered.

The meal is free, but donations will gladly be accepted at the door. Anyone in the Bandon area who is homebound and unable to attend the community meal can pre-order a Christmas din-ner, and Holiday Meals will have it delivered.

Those who are homebound can call Colleen Wiesel at 916-221-0318 to order a Christmas meal for delivery. Organizers are asking for no dessert donations this year.

BANDON — Continuing through January, “Oracles and Icons” paintings by Angela Passalacqua; and a vintage tin collection from Dawn Vonderlin will be on display at the Bandon Library Art Gallery.

Human beings have been telling and retell-ing stories since the beginning of time, stories that function to untangle mysteries and describe the truths of our world. Out of these stories grew symbolic figures so pervasive as to become iconic and universally understood, allowing cul-tures to communicate across time. Passalacqua draws upon such iconography, creating paintings whose stories we recognize, even as viewers

puzzle out their specifics. Painting with oils on wood, Passalacqua creates surfaces that are tex-tured, fresco-like.

Certainly no world has so thoroughly under-stood and harnessed the power of storytelling through iconography as the world of advertising. Through the lens of nostalgia, and with admira-tion for the imagination and talent of the artists of yesterday, we can appreciate this collection of vintage tins, shared by Vonderlin. Look beyond the surfaces to find the hidden treasures here. The charm of this collection lies in such clever-ness, as well as the callback to that impossibly perfect place where we never lived: the past.

BANDON -- Have you ever wanted to learn country line dances? Or maybe you know a few and have been looking for a place to dance? The floor at Lloyd’s is “amazing,” according to teach-er Pat Mitchell.

Lessons are free, easy and fun. They are held at 7 p.m. every Wednesday, then off and on

as requested until 9 p.m. The music is mostly country on Wednesday nights and the DJ does take requests.

“Put on your dancing shoes and meet us at Lloyd’s, 219 Second St. in Old Town, Bandon,” said Mitchell.

BANDON — Alloro Wine Bar & Restaurant will hold its fourth-annual Christmas Day fund-raiser for Bandon Feeds the Hungry.

Stop in from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 25, and have a quick bite, with 100 percent of the proceeds going to Bandon Feeds the Hungry. Reservations will not be accepted. Soup (kind to be determined) and Caesar salad will be served for $5 each on a first-come, first-served basis. To-go orders for the soup and/or salad are also available for the same price.

"Alloro’s passion is connecting people with wonderful food," said David Hayes, co-owner with Susan Hayes of Alloro. "Since Jan 2015, we have been committed to our community by being open for our guests year-round, providing a great

dining experience and giving back to the commu-nity we live in."

"This is just a small way we can support a wonderful Bandon charity and we are humbled to help where we can," Hayes added. "We are so thankful to our team for sharing a portion of their Christmas Day with us to raise funds to help the beneficiaries of Bandon Feeds the Hungry. Alloro would like to thank all of you in advance for your donations towards this annual fundraising event."

Additional cash donations from now through Christmas Day are also welcome and will go directly to Bandon Feeds the Hungry.
