I always know when my calendar indicates that the Washington County
Fair is looming that the summer is waning. Fortunately, as of this
writing, my family’s annual trip to Provincetown in Cape Cod is still to
come. There is no time at the Moreau Community Center to mourn
summer, however. Fall keeps us busy and energized with our 4th Annual
Block Party on September 10th, bigger and better than ever. Backpacks
full of school supplies are ready to go, our first ever blood drive is
scheduled for 9/20 from 1-6, and of course the community-sponsored
Holiday Caring program is set to launch in October. Help us support
the needs in the wonderful community in which we live by donating
your treasure, your time, or your talents.
We will take them in any combination!

2016 Back To School Program
On behalf of the Moreau Community Center’s Board of Directors, staff and those who we assist through this program, we would like to thank you for your support. This year we were able to provide 30 children with necessary school supplies and a gift card for clothing and shoes.
Each year the Moreau Community Center continues to advance its mission of meeting the multi-generational needs of the community. Without support from individuals and businesses in our community, important programs such as the Back to School Program would not be possible.
We can’t thank you enough for making a difference in the lives of the people
of our community.

Volunteer Spotlight
Pat John popped into the Moreau Community Center one
day to “see what it was all about.” Luckily for us, she decided she liked
what she saw and has stayed. Pat started with our mailings, then added
the Osteobusters class. She has helped with the Annual Garage Sale and
Block Party the past two years. Volunteerism is in Pat’s blood. When her
daughter was in school, she volunteered in the office at St. Michael’s and
St. Mary’s Academy. She was a Girl Scout Leader, volunteered in the office for the Wood
Foundation, and gave her time at the Sandy Hill Historical Library.
When asked about why she volunteers, Pat’s answer is simple. “I like getting something done
that other people need done. It gives you drive.” Prior to her husband’s passing, he and Pat
hiked a lot. At one time, they had their eye on the 46 Club. “We didn’t get near it, but it was
something we loved to do,” Pat says. Pat is very humble and always thinks someone else is
more deserving than she. We think differently – Pat does everything with a smile and to the
best of her ability. “It’s an honor for me to be a member of the Moreau Community Center
with so many outstanding people. Participating in the activities is always filled with fun and
laughter.” And very often, Pat’s smiling face is leading the laughter..
The Center appreciates that time and talent are precious and wants every minute that you volunteer with us to be worthwhile. Currently we are working to revise our volunteer process to include standardized forms, training, schedules, tracking, and recruitment.
With the myriad of volunteer opportunities, we plan to define job descriptions, make the right match between skills and interests, and promote recognition of your services.
Thinking of volunteering or need to fulfill a service requirement? NOW is the time to reach out to the Center. We work with school programs, service organizations and court-mandated individuals to provide a meaningful volunteer experience. Without your service, we would not be able to meet the needs of those who live in our community. Our goal is to ensure the most effective utilization of your volun-teer service in fulfilling our commitment to meet the needs of our community.

2016 Holiday Caring Program Once again the holiday season is approaching. The holidays inevitably cause us to focus on how richly we are blessed. There is an almost universal understanding of what we really have to be thankful for; family, friends, and lasting relationships. In this spirit, the Board of Directors and Staff at the Moreau Community Center send you our sincere thanks for supporting us in the past. We are a Community Center that derives its identity from the support of our community members.
Friends of the Moreau Community Center form a unique circle, a circle whose support nurtures the spirit just as much as it makes the day-to-day work possible. Through this support, we are able to embrace the challenges to our community of today and tomorrow. So this holiday season, please accept our gratitude for your time or resources that you may have contributed.
With your generosity and support, last year we were able to help 167 families (67 elderly, 197 adults, and 210 children) at Thanksgiving with a turkey and all the trimmings for a wonderful dinner; and 177 families (67 elderly, 199 adults, and 218 children) at Christmas with food, clothing, and toys.
The Holiday Caring Committee is in full swing already and we expect there will be more people this year applying for assistance. The goal is to make sure that all of our friends and neighbors in the Town of Moreau and the Village of South Glens Falls who are in need will be helped. Applications for recipients are available at the Center during regular business hours, Monday through Friday 8:00AM-4:00PM beginning October 3rd, 2016.
If you wish to make any kind of donation to this worthwhile community project just fill out the form at the bottom of this page and send it to us or drop it by the Center Monday through Friday 8:00AM-4:00PM. We’ve prepared a food list and personal care items we could use for this program: Instant potatoes, canned vegetables, cranberry sauce, canned or packaged gravy, stuffing mix; personal care items such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, shaving cream, soap, shampoo, etc.
Thanks again for your generosity, and we look forward to working with you again this year!
