Mr Matt Gardiner Manager Waterstones Booksellers 47 Mill Street Macclesfield SK11 6NE 30th August 2008 Dear Mr Gardiner, My name is Eleanor Strutt and I am 14 years old, my date of birth is 6th December 1993; I am just about to enter Year 10 at the King’s School in Macclesfield. One of the requirements in Year 10 is to spend a week doing work experience. My week runs from Monday 23rd to Friday 27th February 2009. I was wondering if there was any way that I could work in your store for that week. The objectives of my work experience week are to find out about different jobs in a career that I am interested in; to experience working life as an employee; to use skills that I have gained in school life and develop new ones; to make some important decisions about my future; to gain confidence and take increased responsibility for my actions; and to gain experience on my placement that can go onto my CV. I love books and reading. I have been shopping in your store for as long as I can remember. I try to come in at least once a week and I know where each different book section is. I could help out your staff in any way that you see fit. If it is possible for me to undertake my work experience as part of your company please could you reply as soon as possible. There is a form I would need you to sign by the 5th September, and so I would need time for this to be given to you. I believe that working with you would be incredible. I could gain experience working with the public and get an insight into working in a shop, as well as enjoy the pleasure of working with books. I am sure that you receive quite a few

Dear Mr Gardiner,

My name is Eleanor Strutt and I am 14 years old, my date of birth is 6th December 1993; I am just about to enter Year 10 at the King’s School in Macclesfield.

I am sure that you receive quite a few applicants applying for the opportunity of work experience with you and I hope that you would be happy to take me on.

Yours sincerely,
