StarrMatica has partnered with the crowd funding platform, PledgeCents, to help teachers and schools earn their StarrMatica memberships for free.

How Does It Work?

1. Follow this link to create a cause for StarrMatica on PledgeCents in 3 easy steps: https://www.pledgecents.com/signup/event/starrmatica 2. Spread the word about your cause. 3. Once the funds are raised, we will contact you directly to activate your account. Best of all, if you don't reach your goal, you still get to keep any amount of money you raise! Whether you need to renew your membership this year or you are looking to fund next year’s membership, don’t let funding issues stop you from having StarrMatica in your classroom. With PledgeCents, you can begin funding your membership for free. Like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter so you don’t miss our exciting announcement in a few weeks for #CyberMonday and #GivingTuesday. Hint: We’re planning a way for you to receive a discount on your membership larger than anything we’ve ever done before!

Math Tip One of the great things about a library of content is the ability to use it in many different ways. In math class, you can use the library to your advantage when explaining concepts with virtual manipulatives. StarrMatica’s library provides hundreds of virtual manipulatives for you to choose from, so if a traditional manipulative isn’t getting making a concept clear, you have many other choices.

You can both demonstrate a manipulative easily on your interactive whiteboard or flat panel and have your students explore that same manipulative on their laptops or tablets. This is something that isn’t always possible when relying on physical manipulatives. Allowing students to demonstrate how they arrived at a solution using manipulatives and to compare their strategies with fellow students can be an invaluable learning tool.

Make it a goal this month to try using a virtual manipulative with your students. When searching in StarrMatica, just choose “Virtual Manipulative” from the “Type” drop down to see a list of manipulatives available for your chosen topic. If you have individual student accounts, be sure to add that manipulative to student backpacks for easy access.
