In this month, team 1772 will
be participating of an off-season
competition at China. Our team has
been chosen to represent South
America in there. The event will take
place from august 17th to august
19th in Shenzhen, one of the largest
and most important cities of the
country, located in southern main-
land China and north of Hong Kong.
The Chinese Robotics Compe-
tition 2015 will bring together the
best teams in the world, including
teams from the United States and
Australia. The project is being con-
ducted by the China Youth Robotic
Urban League (CUYRA) - a non-profit
organization established in Hong

Kong - and strives to promote the teach-
ing of science, engineering and technolo-
gy; furthermore, the competition aims to
develop related applications with robots in
the commitment to train the innova-
tive capacity of our kids.
The event will be really simi-
lar to the competition we had partici-
pated earlier this year (2015), orga-
nized by the FIRST Robotics Compe-
tition. Following the principles of the
game Recycle Rush, the Chinese
competition will take just a few
changes in its rules; the main goal is
to stack totes and a container with a
litter inside it on the top of a plat-
form: the more stacked totes the
higher score.
The building of the robot for
this event in China is already hap-
pening, and the team is striving to
develop a great robot for the compe-
tition.

On Tuesday (07/21), we attend-
ed the solemn ceremony commemorating
the 15th anniversary of the General Mo-
tors’ factory in Gravataí. This company
has been one of our greatest partner and
sponsor for almost 10 years; supporting
and assisting our team through its journey.
The ceremony took place in the Gravataí’s
City Council with the participation of the
great representatives of General Motors in
the country: the GM’s vice president in

15th anniversary celebration of
General Motors Gravataí
Brazil, Marcos Munhoz, and the general director of the company in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Camilo
Ballesty.
Opened in July 20th - 2000, the automotive complex of General Motors in Gravataí-RS, which employs
9000 workers and has produced 2.8 million vehicles during these 15 years, was the first unit of the company in
Brazil created outside the state of São Paulo. Called an “industrial condominium system” GM’s factory houses
all its 19 largest systems suppliers and that is an innovative concept to improve the company's production line.
Because of it, now days, more than 60% of the General Mo-
tors sales came from Rio Grande do Sul.
Since its opening, the GM plant in RS, which cur-
rently produces the Chevrolet vehicles in the models Celta,
Prisma and Onyx received two large expansion investments.
One was in 2006 when the complex reached a capacity of 230
000 cars/year, and the latest in 2012, bringing production to
350,000 vehicles/year. Currently, the production capacity of
the complex is the largest of the Chevrolet brand in South
America: may exceed the average of one car per minute.
Since 2006, General Motors Gravataí maintains a
strong bond with our team’s project. Because it, dozens of
kids can learn about STEM every year through the teaching of
robotics to public school students. And certainly with the
support of the GM we can increasingly be able to expand and
improve our work.

The world's leader producer
of aluminum rolled - Novelis - is cur-
rently one of the largest promoters
of FIRST in Brazil. The company in-
vests heavily to improve education
around the world through the teach-
ing of science and technology to kids.
Aiming this, the company is, now
days, one of the greatest partners of
the robotics team 1772.
Saturday, July 25, 2015, team
Trail Blazers had the pleasure of be-
ing invited to attend an event with
three other teams sponsored by
Novelis in Pindamonhangaba - São
Paulo. Two of these teams being
from São José dos Campos - SP and
another of Georgia in the United
States. Through this meeting, the
teams had the opportunity to know
each other better and they also
shared experiences that will be
useful to expand the robotics com-
petition, in the FRC category in the
country. On that day, teams and
sponsors also had the chance to
familiarize themselves, becauseit
was the "family day" at the factory.
Representing Novelis, were present
Ashley Gravlee (corporate social re-
sponsibility manager) and Rachel
Botinha (external communication
manager).
The event was very important
for the interaction among the FRC
teams in the country. Everyone was
extremely pleased for being there.
Including a representative of the
competition was present, Patricia
Fletcher one of the FIRST’s judges.
Therefore, the Trail Blazers team
would like to say that we are very
grated for all the trust and support
of Novelis. Thank you!

FIRST is an acronym for Inspiration
and Recognition of Science and Technology. FIRST
was founded in 1989 to inspire young people's
interest and participation in science and techno-
logy. Based in Manchester, NH, the 501 (c) (3) not
-for-profit public charity designs accessible, inno-
vative programs that motivate young people to
pursue education and career opportunities in sci-
ence, technology, engineering, and math, while
building self-confidence, knowledge, and life skills.
What is FIRST? What is FRC?
The varsity Sport for the MindTM,
FRC combines the excitement of sport with
the rigors of science and technology. Under
strict rules, limited resources, and time li-
mits, teams of 25 students or more are
challenged to raise funds, design a team
"brand," hone teamwork. Currently, the re-
gional completions happen in United States,
Mexico, Canada, Israel, and Australia.
