FOR LIFE - DISABILITY - LONG TERM CARE - ANNUITIES

In 1981 Cardinal Albert G. Meyer Council #6646 began awarding modest scholarships to graduates of the Tri-parish schools who go on to attend Catho-lic high schools. These criteria were to be consid-ered during the selection process:

Financial Need

Service to the School Leadership Capability

Character Development Academic Achievement

Each scholarship is renewable for a second year. Scholarship Chairman Peter Schulteis represented our Council at NWC School’s graduation ceremony at Our Lady of Good Hope. He presented awards to sophomore Walter Carpio (Dominican H.S.) and freshman Quaney Gary (Dominican H.S.). Brother Walt Wochos presented scholarships at St. Eugene to freshman Alex Gould (M.U.H.S.) and sophomore Ronaldo Siy (M.U.H.S.) Council 6646 congratulates these winners and wishes them continued success in their academic endeavors.

Council 6646 provides ushers for 3 Sunday Masses at the magnificent Basilica of the National Shrine of Mary during the "Pilgrim Season." On Sunday, July 15, 2018 The Discalced Carmelite Fri-ars cordially invite our Brother Knights to take up col-lections at the 9:30, 11:00 AM and 12:30 PM Mass-es. Volunteers (8 needed for each Mass) wear "off-red" blazers which are provided. Dress slacks and shoes, shirt and tie are proper attire. (No jeans or tennis shoes). You are welcome to choose one or more Mass times. Contact Phil McCarthy. ([email protected] or 262-305-7001) Please wear your KC name badge if you have one.

Hail Mary ,Full of Grace

Council #6646 began its monthly Rosary Devo-tions at St. Catherine of Alexandria (76th Pl.) in 1979. The Church's beautiful statue of our Blessed Mother and the stained-glass window depicting the crucified Christ create a contemplative atmosphere highly conducive to prayer. During those 39 years over 2340 decades of Pope St. John Paul II's favor-ite prayer were offered for these intentions: 1. That mothers will choose LIFE for their babies and that providers of abortion will come to realize that they are killing innocent children. 2. That our Brother Knights, their Ladies and fami-ly members will receive the graces and the strength needed to cope with the stress in their lives. 3. That the souls of our departed Brothers and their Ladies who have been summoned by the Lord may rest in peace. A special invitation is extended to our Brother Knights, Ladies, Family Members and Widows who live within reasonable driving distance to attend this devotion to Mary, especially during months marking a special date-birthday, anniversary or loss of a loved one.

TUESDAY, August 6, 2018 at 7:00PM is an op-portunity to honor the Blessed Mother in anticipation of her Assumption (August 15th). We will pray the Glorious Mysteries. If travel time, schedule conflicts, or health problems preclude your attendance consid-er adding an occasional Rosary to your prayer regi-men at your church or home.

Editor's note: This truly impressive tradition was in-augurated and maintained by our Church Director Phil McCarthy. Needless to add he took his prom-ise to honor Mary by praying the rosary to heart!

Memorial Day Revisited

Sincere thanks to St. Catherine of Alexandria Parish for hosting this annual community event since 1978. Despite the many celebrations on this holiday a respectable number of American citizens com-memorated the sacrifices of those members of the Armed Forces who laid down their lives to defend our freedoms. Special thanks to Brother Steve Gaenslen for leading the Rosary and the Prayer before the Flag and to Fr. Joe Hornecek who presided at Mass. He was assisted by acolytes Ralph Boeckl and Peter Schulteis, lector Dallas Wytonick, Eucharistic Min-isters Tim Nighbor and Alice Schulteis, and usher Bill Bergeron. After prayers in the parish cemetery tasty refresh-ments, graciously served by Eunice Brandstetter and Barbara Ceccato, were enjoyed in the recep-tion center. Thanks for all the help.

Get Hooked on the Chinooks

The Lakeshore Chinooks will battle the Madison Mallards at Kapco Park in Mequon on Wednesday, July 18, 2018 with the FIRST PITCH at 6:35 PM. Some of the best college athletes in the country will play an exciting brand of baseball at a family-friendly facility. Concession prices are reasonable! Park-ing is FREE and reserved grandstand seats are only $10.00 - General Admission tickets are only $7.00. Because of a possible rainout I’m recommending that separate family/ friends groups purchase tickets on-line (lakeshorechinooks.com) or the day of the game. The number for tickets/information is 1-262-

618-4659. You may choose seats in Section 206 on the third base side to be near other council attendees.

Editor's note: Take N. Port Washington Road to Highland. Turn RIGHT at the stoplight. Look for the Concordia University Entrance on your LEFT. Kap-co Park is part of the campus. The ball park is close to Lake Michigan – even in July it could get cold.

CARE NET - Pregnancy Center of Milwaukee

Dear Council 6646, Mya walked in without an appointment late this Febru-ary & asked for a pregnancy test. It was positive, and Mya was shocked. As she put it, her life was just "gettin' lit". She had a good job, money to spare, and had just moved in with her boyfriend. A trip out of state was planned and approaching. She didn't want a baby to de-rail her fun. We talked with her - asked her questions about her life, her hopes and her dreams. We gently suggested that her life, hopes and dreams could still continue, even with a baby at her side. Mya had an ultrasound that same day and learned she was just over 7 weeks along. She saw her baby's heart-beat. When she left, she filled out an exit survey: 5. Did the ultrasound influence your decision regarding the pregnancy? x yes no

"I will be keeping my baby. 6. Additional comments: "I love this place." Praise God for this heart changed and this life saved! What if Mya had gone to an abortion clinic for her preg-nancy test? The outcome could have been drastically different for her and her baby.

Thank you for continuing to support CARE NET into 2018. ($480.00 thus far) We are grateful for the value you place on life! Already in 2018 we saw a woman plan-ning a late term abortion change her mind after viewing the ultrasound. Thanks for being a part of this ministry!

ABORTIONIST, I.E. SERIAL KILLER! New York: A New York physician who says he has done 40,000 abortions in his career pleaded guilty Friday to criminally negligent homicide while performing one that led to the bleeding death of a 6-months -pregnant woman. The jury was close to a verdict on the original second-

degree manslaughter charge against Dr. Robert Rho, equivalent to reckless homicide. The 53-year-old doctor faced up to 15 years behind bars for manslaughter. The lesser charge comes with prison time of up to four years. But Rho's attorney, Jef-frey Lichtman, says he may end up with only months in prison when sentenced on June 26. Associated Press

Returned support Vocations Program

Dear Knights, On behalf of Rev. Eder Escobar, General Moder-ator, and Rev. Silvano Velasquez, Prefect of Finance for the Missionary Fraternity of Mary in Guatemala please accept our sincere thank you for your recent donation of $500.00 in support of the work of our so-ciety. Our challenge annually is to meet the expense of our formation budget which amounts to approximate-ly $3000.00 per seminarian in support of our 92 sem-inarians currently in formation. As explained previ-ously our current population of priests mirrors the ethnic makeup of Guatemala which is 80% Mayan Indian. Most of our seminarians come from very poor families who are not able to pay anything for their education and formation. It is only through the generosity of benefactors such as the Knights of Co-lumbus that we are able to provide opportunities for all young men to pursue ordination to the priesthood. Thanks be to God we have `150 priests in ministry serving in 41 Dioceses in 11 countries. As you fulfill your mission "in service to one, in service to all" in which you carry out Christ's mission, so too we follow the simple obedience of our Blessed Mother in our motto - "Fiat Mihi Secundum Verbum Tuum", "May it be done to me according to your Word." Blessings to you and to all of your fellow Knights and for all the good that you do in service to your neighbors.

Most sincerely, Michael R. Cesarz

President, FMM Ltd.

Dear Knights, I wanted to express my deep gratitude for your generous help of $500.00 which I received in the past weeks. I am currently in Second Theology. This is my fourth year at St. Francis Seminary. This summer, I will be going to New Hampshire for my clinical Pasto-ral Education. It is about being a lay chaplain and learning how to minister to the sick, the dying and their families

God willing, at the end of next school year (spring 2019) I will be ordained a deacon, so I ask for your prayers, that the Lord may confirm in me the work of his hands. Each one of you are in my prayers.

Gratefully yours, Carlos Londono

Editor's note: Council 6646 began participating in the Orderwide grants to men and women pursuing religious vocations in 1987. Carlos and newly or-dained Fathers William Arnold and Andrew In-fanger were awarded $500.00 checks for personal expenses. during the 2017-2018 Fraternal Year. F.S. Ed Laskowski then applies for three $100.00 Rebates from the Supreme Council.

4th of July Sans Council 6646

For 29 years Brown Deer residents acknowl-edged out Council's appearance in its Fourth of July Parade. Kids in the crowd clamored for the Tootsie Rolls left over from our Campaign for the Intellectu-ally Disabled. Due to the inexorable march of time the number of volunteers has dwindled to the point where this tradition can no longer be maintained. Council 6646 can be justly proud of almost 3 decades of participation in this community celebra-tion.

Under God

President Dwight D. Eisenhower culminated the campaign, spearheaded by the Knights of Colum-bus, to add these two words to the Pledge of Alle-giance by signing the Congressional resolution to amend the pledge into law in Flag Day, June 14, 1954. He didn't say which god or whose god guides America. He simply recognized God as have all American presidents at one time or another starting with George Washington. In a message to the Supreme Council of the Knights of Columbus dated August 30, 1954 Presi-dent Eisenhower said: "We are particularly thankful for your part in the movement to have the words 'under God' added to our Pledge of Allegiance. These words will remind Americans that despite our great physical strength we must remain humble. They will help us to keep constantly in our minds and hearts the spiritual and moral principles which alone give dignity to man, and upon which our way of life is founded. For the contributions which your organization has made in this cause, we must be genuinely grateful."

Editor's note: The phrase "under God" was immor-talized in Lincoln's Gettysburg Address.

Laus Deo - Praise Be to God

These two Latin words were inscribed on the alu-minum cap that was finally placed atop the Washing-ton Monument (555 feet high) as a tribute to the fa-ther of our nation. Laus Deo is the common thread of George Washington's prayer for his coun-try:"Almighty God; We make our earnest prayer that Thou wilt keep the United States in Thy holy protec-tion; that Thou wilt incline the hearts of the citizens to cultivate a spirit of subordination and obedience to government; and entertain a brotherly affection and love for one another and for their fellow citizens of the United States at large. And finally, that Thou wilt most graciously be pleased to dispose us all to do justice, to love mercy, and to demean ourselves with that charity, humility, and pacific temper of mind which were the characteristics of the Divine Author of our blessed religion, and without a humble imita-tion of whose example in these things we can never hope to be a happy nation. Grant our supplication, we beseech Thee, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen"
