Where to look ????Cost treeElectrical is largest cost Compressor power is largest user so
Air compressors
Average use 200 hp x .746hp/kw x 24hrs x 365days x 10 cents/kWh= $130,700/year
Ammonia compressors
NH3 summer 1900 hp winter 1200 hp
Average 1500 hp x .746hp/kw x 24hrs x 365days x 10 cents/kWh= $980,250/year
(this is large part of total site utility costs)…yes lets look here
What can we do betterRefrigeration
• Rise and control Suction 33 psi to 45 psi
• Lower Discharge
• Match compressors to load (is 700hp running 15-25% loaded)
• Control evaporators fans and defrost (conditions not timers)
• Operate condenser fans and pumps to outside conditions and wet bulb…VFD fans for even more savings
• Find the next bottle neck that you need to fix to get to the next step in raising suction and lowering discharge
• our plant needed new chiller controls and remove restriction (8 values) and replace with one on main suction line
• Match suction to evaporator load
• Remove excess piping and pressure drops
• Equipment not on …”In case we need it”
