Visual Literacy and the Internet
• Visual literacy is the ability to derive meaning from images of everything that we see.
• The internet is a resource that is used daily by both teachers and students.
• Today’s society thrives off of visual literacy and the internet as almost everything now is done online.
How does visual literacy and the internet impact teaching and the
learning process?
• Many students are visual learners. • Students can now learn through the use of
presentations, smartboards, wikis, blogs, and iPads.
• All of these devices and programs incorporate visuals for students to learn from.
• Students now learn better due to this new teaching style.
The visual-thinking strategies that I incorporate into my classroom are:
• Pictures for specific skills or content.
AND
• Posters for motivational quotes.
The visual thinking strategies I would like to incorporate into my classroom
include:• Charts to display behavior and student
progress.• Students will visually see where they stand as
well as where others stand.• Motivation to do better is the end result.
Visual strategies that I would like to incorporate into my classroom
continued include:• Internet to show demonstrations or skills
through the use of smartboards and iPads. • These tools allow a teacher to set up the gym
while students are following along to a video or a demonstration.
Overall:
• Including visual literacy and the internet into classrooms will:
-create critical thinking skills-create collaboration through the use of
21st century skills-benefit students and lead them to
success
