    TECHNIQUES OF PROBLEM SOLVING

    INTRODUCTION

TOPS ( Technique Of Problem Solving ) is a comprehensive program for the

development of problem-solving skills and strategies. It has been designed to complement

existing mathematics textbook program. TOPS has instructional materials for the primary

schools. This modules provide the core for a program in one of the most important of

mathematical areasproblem solving. TOPS Module can be used to make students aware

that many problems can be solved in more than one way. It can be also

used to encourage students to communicate in English during the teaching and learning

    activities.

    OBJECTIVES

The objectives of this program are to improve students performance

at solving problems correctly and make students aware of problem solving

strategies. TOPS module was designed to encourage the students to

communicate during the teaching and learning activities with the teacher

playing an active role leading the students through each experience.

    PROBLEM SOLVING IN MATHEMATICS

Problem Solving is an instructional program designed to prepare

students for future problem solving experiences by building their

confidence dealing with real-world situations that involve numbers that

exists in three different modes, namely as content, ability, and learning

    approach.
