MM3™ Sentient’s MM3™ Line Monitor is your gateway to improve grid reliability and reduce operational cost. It combines fault and disturbance detection with load monitoring and high resolution waveform capture — a must-have capability for any Grid Analytics Solution. The MM3™ is a proven multi- communications solution that operates on RF Mesh (SSN and Landis+Gyr) and cellular (4G/LTE, 3.7G, 3G, 2G, GPRS) networks. Easy to Deploy and Maintenance Free. Designed for zero physical maintenance throughout its life, the MM3™ uses Sentient’s patented IBOLT™ power harvesting technology, which generates all the power the MM3™ needs from the magnetic field surrounding the conductor it is installed on — no batteries to change and no pole-mounted equipment required. Installation is done via hot-stick and takes minutes. Proven Multi-Communications Solution. The MM3™ device is designed to communicate using both AMI or DA mesh networks and cellular providers. Today Sentient’s devices are deployed in the field in tens of thousands and operating on Silver Spring (SSN) and Landis+Gyr RF mesh, as well as cellular networks. The MM3™ can also support Wi-Fi and secure Bluetooth® (for local communications) upon request. MM3 supports DNP3 direct to SCADA without requiring an RTU or any translation middleware, while simultaneously delivering analytics data to Ample™. The MM3’s edge processing reduces the burden on the communications network by transmitting only key event information, in real time and by exception. Powerful Platform for Advanced Monitoring and Analytics. Sentient’s MM3™ device is equipped with sophisticated sensing and measurement capabilities including line & fault current, conductor temperature and voltage characteristics; the MM3™ receives GPS for location and precise time stamping of all measurements. The MM3™ also features patent-pending communications software that efficiently enables uploads and downloads over constrained networks allowing data transfers, software upgrades and configuration changes remotely over the air from the utility’s control center. The MM3™ supports multiple embedded apps that enable fault detection, anomaly disturbance detection, Auto-Phase identification, waveform analysis, and load monitoring. SAIDI: Fault Detection and Location. Sentient’s MM3™ Fault Monitor app (cFCI®) uses advanced fault detection algorithms, and wirelessly communicates fault information immediately to the utility control center. With cFCI®, operators can dispatch crews to the correct location based on an immediate alert notification, supported by a daylight-visible LED which enables crews to confirm that they have arrived at the proper site. SAIFI: Waveform Analysis and Disturbance Management. Equipped with high resolution waveform capability at a rate of 130 samples per cycle, Sentient’s MM3™ captures and records waveforms of faults and line disturbances. Complete current and E-field waveform data is stored locally on the MM3™ and is available to download when needed. Waveforms are used by Sentient’s Grid Analytics Applications to identify probable fault causes or identify failures before they cause outages. Sentient’s Grid Analytics System is powered by these high- definition waveform captures and enables utilities to shift from reacting to outages to preemptively tackling issues that may cause outages in the future, including Insulator leakage, excessive arcing during capacitor switch operations and loose connectors, all of which cause anomalies that waveform analysis can detect before an actual failure occurs. Load Monitoring and Phase Balancing. Sentient’s MM3™ Log-I app continually measures current and temperature values and derives the most useful values and averages for load monitoring purposes. This collected data is processed on the device itself to extract critical information and derive accurate line conditions; only average logging data and statistics (such as alerts and daily peaks) is reported back to Sentient’s Ample™ suite and Grid Analytics System. The Sentient Log-I app gives you visibility into the network loading conditions, and lets you maximize asset utilization by basing asset replacement and network operational decisions on accurate, real data rather than best-guess simulations or state estimations. Auto-Phase Identification. Combining its current and e-field measurements, the MM3™ automatically detects the phase it is installed on. Utilities can use this information not only to correct any database errors that affect all operations technology systems, but also for continuous connectivity tracking, as construction and restoration may lead to phase misconnection.

MM3™Sentient’s MM3™ Line Monitor is your gateway to improve grid reliability and reduce operational cost.

Easy to Deploy and Maintenance Free.Designed for zero physical maintenance throughout its life, the MM3™ uses Sentient’s patented IBOLT™ power harvesting technology, which generates all the power the MM3™ needs from the magnetic field surrounding the conductor it is installed on — no batteries to change and no pole-mounted equipment required.

2019 ENHANCEMENTSMM3 for 50Hz grids, with industry leading 156 samples/cycle oscillography.

A Complete Grid Analytics System.Sentient Energy’s Grid Analytics System consists of the MM3, ZM1, UM3+ line sensors and the Ample Analytics suite. Sentient’s flagship, the MM3™, is an intelligent sensor with high-performance sensors featur ing substat ion - c lass measurement, computing and processing capabilities. Sentient’s ZM1 complements the MM3, making intelligent sensing and high resolution data capture capabilities available at grid locations with low or no amperage for the first time. The UM3+ extends high resolution sensing and distributed computing capabilities to the underground grid. This decentralized approach maximizes the amount of information gathered in the field while minimizing the amount of data transmitted.

Ample™ Analytics Suite.Sentient Energy’s Ample™ Analytics suite provides everything needed to manage field monitoring devices and the immense amount of data that they collect. Ample’s analytic modules extract essential insights from complex data empowering operators, planners and protection engineers to make timely and accurate decisions while managing the distribution grid.

Key CharacteristicsThe MM3™ platform is the key enabler to effectively turn raw field data into actionable intelligence. Its local computing capability greatly reduces the burden on the communications networks by communicating only processed and compressed event information — in real time and by exception.
