MixWizardWhen we held the first design meetings for the MixWizard series, we had a veryclear goal in mind - to create a range of compact mixers with big features, greatsound and totally professional build quality. The phenomenal sales that theMixWizards have enjoyed tell me that we got it right.

Now the best has got even better. We’ve looked at the areas where we couldimprove on the existing MixWizard designs, adding useful features such as a Pinknoise generator for the WZ14:4:2+ and onboard FX for the other models. We’velistened to your requests for metal jacks and channel on led’s - you’ll now findthese on all MixWizards. Internally, we’ve changed the way the circuit boards areconnected to make servicing even easier, and we’ve created a new universal inputheat reducing power supply.

There’s even a completely new MixWizard, the WZ12:2DX, which offers the samecommitment to quality and attention to detail that have made its sister consolessuch a big hit, but at an even more affordable price point.

Dual FunctionalityWZ14:4:2+ excels as a F-o-H console,as a Monitor mixer, or as acombination of the two.

In F-o-H mode the 4 groups and LRfeed auditorium speaker arrays, delaysystems, dressing rooms, foyers etc,whilst the aux sends provide localmonitors and fx.

WZ14:4:2+ becomes a dedicatedmonitor console by activatingtamperproof mode switches. The auxand group/LR feeds are swappedover, giving XLR outs, inserts forgraphic EQ’s and 100mm fadercontrols to all 6 aux mixes.

In Dual Mode, as many auxes andgroups are swapped over asrequired, allowing all mixingfunctions to be provided by a singleengineer and a single console.

Engineer’s MonitoringLR output is monitored via 12segment peak reading bargraphmeters, and by the headphonesocket (complete with independentlevel control). PFL/AFL selectionsoverride the LR feed, illuminating awarning LED.

Groups and LR are also monitoredby a bank of six additional 4segment level meters, allowingoutput level monitoring even whenPFL/AFL is selected.

In monitor mode, the 4 segmentmeters monitor auxes 1-6, whilst themain 12 segment bargraph followsauxes 5 and 6.

2-Track Send and ReturnSeparate phono connectors and leveltrims are provided for 2-trackrecording from the LR mix. Selectingthe LR replay button routes this signalto the LR mix for intermission replay.

Mono OutputThe LR mono sum is fed to abalanced XLR output with level controlfor broadcast feeds, F-o-H fills etc.

In monitor mode, the mono out canbe used to feed an engineer’s wedgewith any AFL/PFL signals.

Output MastersGroups can be panned to the LR aswell as having their own outputs.Signals are sent to the balanced XLRoutputs via the faders, on and AFLswitches. All XLR outputs haveinserts and peak reading meters.

In monitor mode, signals are sent tothe balanced jack aux send outputs,via their level controls and AFL,whilst benefiting from all masteroutput features.

Talkback to AuxesA talkback mic can be connected viaa front panel XLR socket, allowingtalkback to auxes in selected pairs.

Oscillator & Pink Noise GeneratorA 1kHz signal can be routed throughlevel controls and meters to 2-trackrecorders for level alignments. Apink noise generator allows checkingof frequency response and phaseconnections for speaker arrays.

Aux Master SendsEach of the 6 aux mixes has its own master levelcontrol. Up to 4dB boost is available to theimpedance balanced output jacks.

Mono and Stereo Aux MonitoringWZ16:2DX and WZ12.2DX’s unique monitoringsystem allows headphone monitoring of a singleaux or to a pair of auxes in stereo for stereomonitors and recording feeds.

Bargraph MetersTwin 3 colour, 12 segment bargraphmeters follow the selected monitorsource.

PFLA red LED lights when PFL isselected, as PFL overrides all othermonitor sources.

HeadphonesMonitor source signals are fed to thestereo headphone jack via anindependent phones level control.

Monitor Select SwitchbankA column of switches gives quickselection of monitor and metersources. Fed post-master level, theaux signals can be selected individuallyfor mono listening or in pairs forstereo and balance checks. Stereoreturns are selected in stereo pairs.

AB OutWZ16:2DX and WZ12.2DX featuresan innovative independent stereo ormonoed output. The AB out can befed from the L-R mix pre or postfader, or from the selected monitorsource. As it offers its own levelcontrol, this versatile output can beused to feed a 2-track recorder,broadcast line, speaker fill, studiomonitors, engineer’s wedge oremployed for any number of otherspecial applications.

When you need effects, the WZ16:2DX andWZ12:DX offer a quantum leap ofperformance. The dedicated on-board digitaleffects processor can be configured as asingle stereo effect or two independent stereoeffects, allowing you to select from 32 (yes,thirty two!) effects. Combined with the twostereo effects returns channels, this gives youup to four stereo effects in your mix withouttying up valuable channels as effects returns.

Allen & Heath has carefully selected thealgorithms for the effects processor. In SingleMode, the processor is driven from Aux 5 with16 different effects programs available. InDual Mode, processing is provided on bothAuxes 5 and 6, with 8 independent programsavailable on each. Whichever mode you

choose, the effect returns to the mix via FXreturn channel ST1. External effects can alsobe mixed into this channel via the dedicatedjack connectors. Auxes 5 and 6, can still beused as conventional aux sends to driveexternal processors or foldback amplifiers.

The MIDI IN socket on the rear panel providesprogram change capability via MIDI and alsoenables presets to be edited using an externalcomputer.
