It’s hard to believe it’s February already. it seems like just yesterday we were ushering in 2015. If you’re like most of us, the New Year’s resolution is already broken.

The kids are back into their school and sports routines and we are back to work, but daydreaming of summer vacation.

It’s also the time to make plans for a romantic evening with your special someone this Valentine’s Day. While we contem-plate which gift to purchase, we need to remember that the

monetary value of a gift is a secondary notion. The most important point is that the gift comes from the heart and there is no better gift than spending valuable time with the ones we love.

Sincerely,

Sven BudzischPublisher/Owner

The MiraMar Police dePartMent (MPd) is well-known for their ability to protect and serve, and they continued their mission of service with

the “Shop With a Cop” event on Tuesday, December 16th. Twelve police officers met at the Walmart at

1800 South University Drive in Miramar for a com-munity service event that the police department has been holding since 1996. The beneficiaries of the event were 40 deserving children between the ages of 5 and 12 years old. Children from 11 elementary schools and 3 charter schools in Miramar were selected for a night of holiday shopping with a police officer.

“Shop With a Cop” started when Walmart donated $50 gift cards to 10 local families and reached out

to the MPD for their help in identifying families in need. Now the department store distributes $75 gift cards for each of the 40 families involved, along with a nice snack table of candy, juice, and chips to welcome everyone. The MPD got involved so that their officers could give back to the community while strengthening the ties between the police department and residents.

All of the MPD officers at Walmart vol-unteered to be there to shop with the fami-lies, keep tabs on how much they were spending, and share gift ideas. “We love coming out here and seeing the smiles on the kids’ faces,” said Officer Scott Hadley.

“Our officers really look forward to having the opportunity to shop with the families.”

Walmart employees also enjoyed the festive mood that “Shop With a Cop” pro-vided. “We take advantage of any opportu-nity we can to help the people of Miramar,” said Tony Howland, a Walmart manager.

“Helping out just goes hand-in-hand with what we do to support the local kids. It’s great to see the families shop for things that they want and need, and it’s really touching to see the police interact positively with the children. The police are showing

their true colors, and how much they really care for the community.”

Lamont Bailey was there with his mother Marquita Kancey and made sure to pick up some presents for his mother and sister as well as himself. “I had a lot of fun,” said Bailey, as he reviewed an impressive haul of a bicycle pump, chocolate bars, Connect Four game, remote control airplane, and a PlayStation3 video game. “I liked seeing the prices and trying to find the lowest price so we can get more stuff. The officers were very friendly, made jokes, and had us all laughing.”

Marie Guirand appreciated seeing the smile on her daughter Darcy’s face as the Coconut Palm Elementary student looked over the toys, dolls, and

Hello Kitty shirt she had picked out. “Tonight was great. The police were very nice and kind,” said Guirand. “The officers helped the kids get what they want without choosing things for them. Some cops even went above and beyond and got a little extra for the kids they were with. It was a great experience, and it meant that some people are willing to do some-thing extra. Some people can’t afford any presents, and if I were a cop, I’d want to do this, too.”

The Miramar Police Department is involved in the community throughout the year, and is always looking for children and families to get involved in the various Police Athletic League sports. For more information on league activities, call 954.602.4783 or visit their website at www.miramarpal.org.

Where experience and caring collide

cOMMUnITY neWs

Psychological studies have Proven that stuffed animals have a significant calming effect on children in stressful or traumatic situ-

ations. Last month, police officers and first respond-ers in Miramar and Pembroke Pines began putting this theory to the test. The Miramar Pembroke Pines Regional Chamber of Commerce’s Chamber for Good Initiative is providing them with teddy bears for all patrol and fire units.

The Chamber ordered over 160 Care Bears, which are dressed in “Chamber for Good” t-shirts. They will be given to children in tragic or stressful situations to help bring them some comfort.

“This has been a long process and I am excited to see it finally being launched in our communi-ties.” said Robert Goltz, Chamber president. “Our Chamber and our businesses understand the impor-tance of taking care of our children and helping them feel safe whenever we can. This Care Bear program is just one way that we can help our children when they are in need.”

The Chamber is hoping to raise $2,000 to help pay for the program. It is asking area businesses and residents to get involved by making a donation. There are three levels of sponsorship (Bronze-$250, Silver-$500, Gold-$1000). Business/individuals can be listed as a “Corporate Sponsor” and advertise on the website.

“Your generous donation will cover the cost of providing these teddy bears to police and fire depart-ments,” said Goltz.

MPPRCC launched the Chamber for Good initia-tive two years ago as a partnership website program to assist the non-profit 501c3 organizations serving Pembroke Pines and Miramar. The free program, which is run by staff and the Board of Directors, connects individuals who want to donate their time, money and resources to area organizations through its website portal. Individuals can sign up to receive emails with information on the needs of the various organizations serving the community. The Chamber for Good program also hosts various events through-out the year to raise money for other non-profit 501c3 organizations.

Goltz says that the Chamber embraced the program to build a stronger more vibrant community and to assist businesses with finding ways to help the non-profit community. They want members to know how they can strengthen the organizations they serve. They also want to provide a source of information and fundraising opportunities for organizations in need.

Eleven MiraMar Police officers brought smiles to the faces of children spending the

holiday in the hospital, when they visited Joe DiMaggio on Christmas Eve bearing toys and doing arts and crafts projects with the kids.

According to Public Information Officer Tania Rues, the visit has become an annual tradition of the Miramar Police Department for the past six years. In 2009, officers from the Department visited a child of one of their own, Miramar Police Officer Carlos Villalona’s 20-month-old daugh-ter Amanda Arianna, who lost her battle with cancer on June 30, 2009.

“The officers visit with Amanda that year inspired them to continue the vis-its every Christmas afterward,” said Rues. “Their hope is to bring some happiness to the children and families that will be spending the holidays in the hospital, away from home.”

The Miramar Police Department partnered with Wal-Mart to purchase the donated toys.

Miramar Regional park plays Host to alonzo Mourning’s Health and Wellness groove

cOMMUnITY neWs

In recognition of Alonzo Mourning’s recent

appointment to President Obama’s Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition, Zo’s Family Health and Wellness Groove held on December 27th, invited families to converge on Miramar Regional Park for events such as a Foot Locker 5K run/walk, health screenings, fun

zones, mini sports clinics (football and basketball) and fitness classes. The free event, open to the public, was full of activities built around supportive program-

ming for families, including health living, arts, crafts, and an array of activities for kids of all ages.

More than 400 participants registered for the 5K Run/Walk and more than 350 were timed race finish-ers. Soeker Fajardo was the top male finisher with a time of 17:12 and Julie West came in first place for the ladies with a time of 21:03. In the 1-14 age group Ricardo Packer came in first with a time of 24:21 and Ashley Williams took the title for the girls with a time of 22:30. For the oldest participants, those age 75-99, Bert Grapin came in first with a time of 30:48 and Johnie Dugger earned the women’s title with a time of 53:59.

The Health and Wellness Groove was one part of a three part Winter Groove celebration presented by the Mourning Family Foundation (MFF). Other events included a Comedy Groove at the J.W. Marriott in Miami and a Hall of Fame Golf Groove at Turnberry Isle Resort.

Bill Diggs, President of MFF, said the Health and Wellness Groove in Miramar was a smart way for the Foundation to build a brand that was inclusive of Alonzo’s active participation as a member of President Obama’s Council on Physical Fitness. “ All the Winter Groove events were an all-around suc-cess,” said Diggs.

For fifteen summers, the Mourning Family Foundation (formerly Alonzo Mourning Charities) produced Zo’s Summer Groove, a one-week fundraising event that raised more than $10 million dollars during its tenure. The crown jewel of these fundraising efforts, the Overtown Youth Center (OYC), serves over 700 students ranging from ages 8 to 25 that reside in South Florida and attend school in and around the Overtown community. Also in the MFF fold is Tracy Mourning’s Honey Shine Mentoring Foundation for Girls, which encourages the balance of mind, body and soul in girls and women by providing nurturing experiences that enlighten their paths and empower their future.

For the sixth year in a row, thousands oF PeoPle will gather on February 22nd at Miramar Regional Park to support Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital at the annual Tour de Broward. The event raises funds for

South Broward’s only pediatric hospital, which has become the leading children’s hospital in Broward and Palm Beach Counties.

This year’s Invicta Watch Group Tour de Broward will feature a variety of events for adults, kids, physically challenged athletes and wounded warriors. These events include a 3K Walk and 5K Timed Run: a 50K and 100K Cycling Challenge and The Power of Play Kids Zone.

Runners and cyclists will be supported by Memorial’s Tour de Broward com-munity partners, including Broward Sheriff’s Office Motorcycle Unit members, who will escort cyclists in the 100K and 50K rides, and Split Second Timing and

Chronotrack of Florida, which will provide on-site electronically timed scoring for all 5K participants on the USA Track and Field route.

Registration fees range from $10 to $40, depending upon the event and the day participant’s sign up. Same-day registration is available. According to Kerting Baldwin, Director of Corporate Communications for Memorial Healthcare System, this year, for the first time, people can donate to the cause and virtually par-ticipate with a registration fee of

$19.92. “Our fundraising goal is $300,000 this year and we’re expecting about 3,000 people to attend and partici-pate in various aspects of the event,” said Baldwin.

Kevin Janser, Senior Vice President and Chief Development Officer for Memorial Healthcare System said it’s exciting to see new supporters participate in Tour de Broward each year. “We are grateful that our community continues to embrace this cause, which means so much for our pediatric patients and their famillies,” said Janser.

In 2014’s fiscal year alone, Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital served children and their families in 53,450 outpatient visits, in 8,707 admissions and observa-tions and 6,039 pediatric surgeries. Funds raised in previous years have helped the Heart Institute, which provides children with care from diagnosis to repair or management of congenital defects and other cardiac dysfunctions. It houses the Pediatric Heart Transplant Program, one of only two of its kind in South Florida. It also has supported the pediatric cancer program.

Students at New Renaissance Middle School Learn a Lesson about positive Work Habits through kapOW programby JiLL sharpe

A classrooM oF sixth grade students at New Renaissance Middle School, learned a valuable lesson about posi-

tive work habits and attitudes when Kids and the Power of Work (KAPOW) volunteers Beverly Creary and Italia Thurston from the City of Miramar Police Department recently visited to lead a simple role-playing activity.

Students learned that respect for themselves and others and a willingness to cooperate are the main ingredients of a positive attitude. They also learned that successful work habits are the direct results of a positive attitude. The goals of the les-son was to understand that respect, cooperation, and doing your best are key elements of a positive

attitude, to identify positive work habits and attitudes, and to recog-nize their importance for success in school and future work.

At the end of the lesson, stu-dents were able to give examples of positive work habits and atti-tudes, explain how positive work habits and attitudes help them do well in school ,and give examples of how positive work habits and attitudes contribute to success in the workplace.

The lessons learned were just an example of the many benefits students receive from the KAPOW program, which prepares students for success in work and in life, through school and business partnerships that connect students, teach-ers, and schools with volunteers, their businesses, organizations and the community.

John Casbarro, President of Learning for Success, the organization that manages the network of more than 1,000 business and community volunteers, teach-ers and school administrators from South Florida who collectively implement the KAPOW program, said it

is a privilege to work with the students, teachers and administrators at New Renaissance Middle School.

“We share a common goal of connecting success in school with success in work and life,” Casbarro said.

“Through our lessons, our volunteers can reinforce the teachers’ instructions and bring a real world perspec-tive to the classroom.”

As a KAPOW volunteer, Italia Thurston said she is passionate about education and believes that every

child should be given the opportunity to excel. “I volunteer every year with KAPOW to ensure that I am able to impact the life of every child I come in contact with and I make sure that every child understands the importance that each lesson in the school’s curricu-lum will play in their future decisions whether they become lawyers, teachers, doctors, nurses, police or fireman.”

Online Home Evaluation Estimates at a glance…

Every hoMeowner at soMe Point in tiMe has, For one reason or another, been on a website that gives estimates of your home’s “current” value. Monitoring home

value estimates online has become an addiction to today’s internet savvy real estate consumer. Are these estimates accu-rate? In more cases than not, not at all! These estimates can be very useful, however, if you understand the basics of how they are established, how they can be easily skewed, and what they

should be used and not used for.In the past, if you wanted to know what your home was worth you would have

had to consult with a Realtor to do a comparative market analysis or have a formal appraisal performed. Today, we tend to rely on these Home Value websites. They build algorithms that retrieve a description of your home from the county tax records along with other publicly available records of the recent sales prices of similar or comparable homes in your area. They make mathematical changes to create a “rough” estimate of your home’s price based on how similar or different it is in measurable factors, such as the number of bedrooms and bathrooms and the size of the property. In addition, some of these websites use a formula that derives a percentage estimate of how the overall local real estate market has moved in the time since the comparables were sold.

Where an automated online estimate of your home falls short and becomes more or less unreliable is that a computer that pulls information from the public records does not have the ability to detect physical, aesthetic, condition and location differences in accordance to each property. The potential for error in these online estimates of home value is why most real estate professionals find them unreliable.

The preeminent way to estimate a home’s value is to look at what similar, nearby homes have actually sold for, as close as possible to the time the home’s value is being sought. Appraisers and Realtors do this. Home value estimate websites attempt to do this with a much larger margin of error than humans professionals typically have.

Because these online home evalu-ation estimates are not fully trustworthy, I believe they should be used sparingly as a means of arriving at a list price of your home if you are selling. Pricing your home correctly from the onset is imperative to obtaining the most for your prop-erty. These estimates are great if you are using them to track movements of the value of your home or the value of homes in a specific neighborhood over a longer period of time.

Looking ahead to Elections and a 60th Birthday celebration

HaPPy new year!Yes, we are well into the year 2015 and busy at work

here in Miramar as we continue our legacy of beauty and progress. This is a very important time for residents of Broward County as a number of municipal elections will take place Tuesday, March 10, 2015. What is a Municipal Election? Municipalities have governing bodies whereby the members are elected by the voters. Each of the 31 municipalities in Broward has a Charter which stipulates the term of the office

and the frequency of the elections. Until 2004, all Broward municipalities held their elections the second Tuesday in March. One city also requires a Primary Election and that is held the second Tuesday in February. These are called stand-alone elections and the municipalities bear the costs for the election.

Municipalities that will hold elections March 10th are:

▸ Coconut Creek

▸ Deerfield Beach

▸ Davie

▸ Ft. Lauderdale

▸ Hillsboro Beach

▸ Lighthouse Point

▸ Miramar

▸ Pembroke Park

▸ Plantation

▸ Sea Ranch Lakes

Each municipality have determined respective polling places which can be found by visiting the Broward County Supervisor of Elections website atwww.browardsoe.org. The City of Miramar’s voting site for this election is located at the Miramar Town Center, 2300 Civic Center Place, Miramar, Florida 33025.

Did you know the City of Miramar will celebrate its 60th birthday this year? That’s right, 60 years of award winning and industry leading public safety, water/waste water treatment and public works best practices and services! Miramar continues to lead Broward County municipalities in economic growth and development with the most Fortune 500 companies including Carnival Cruise Lines, Royal Caribbean, Spirit Airlines, AeroTurbine and many more. The Federal Bureau of Investigations recently opened their Miami headquarters right here in the City of Miramar. Alonzo Mourning kicked off the return of Zo’s “Winter” Groove with a Family Health and Wellness day in our 172 acre regional park. This year promises to continue Miramar’s tradition of service and programming excel-lence with the construction of the long anticipated Miramar Police Department Headquarters and a 5,000 seat Amphitheatre equipped with a Corporate Pavilion at Miramar Regional Park .

As Mayor of this extraordinary and diverse community for the past 19 years, I’m truly grateful to witness firsthand what responsible governance, fiscal pru-dence and community civic engagement can create. The City of Miramar has become a tourist destination for arts, entertainment, culture and sports. This year’s diamond anniversary of Miramar, 60 years and beyond will showcase why Miramar is the premiere City to live, work, play and prosper! To learn more about the City of Miramar and/or to stay in the know about all the City happenings, you can like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter, watch Miramar TV on Comcast channel 78 in Miramar or YouTube or visit our website at www.ci.miramar.fl.us.

eYe Care

The Majority oF aMericans are aware oF the dangers of Ultraviolet (UV) rays to your skin, (including sunburn and skin cancer) and the importance of applying

UV blocking sunscreen and using other forms of sun protection when spending time in the sun. But how many are aware that ultraviolet rays and other harmful types of radiation from the sun are also a risk to your eyes? If you are thinking of leav-ing the house without proper eye protection, think about this: Extended exposure to harmful UV rays has been seen to be a

cause of eye damage.

UV Eye DamageExposure to large quantities of ultraviolet radiation over a short amount of

time can cause a ‘’sunburn of the eye’’, which results in pain, blurred vision or even temporary blindness. Long-term ultraviolet exposure can result in more serious eye diseases such as cataracts, macular degeneration, and others, all of which can cause vision loss. Just like the real sun, tanning beds pose a serious risk of overexposure to UV.

UV Eye ProtectionTo shield your eyes from harmful UV rays, sunglasses should block 100 percent

of UV light. Look for sunglasses labeled ‘’UV 400’’, which indicates that they block all light rays with wavelengths up to 400 nanometers (which includes both UVA and UVB rays, both known to enter the atmosphere). You also want to choose sunglasses with full eye coverage. Sunglasses with side protection can block dangerous UV rays from coming in through the rear of the sunglasses.

You don’t have to empty your pockets to have proper UV defense, but it’s essen-tial to be certain the sunglasses give full UV defense. Many less-exclusive brands do offer proper UV coverage. Further, as well as keeping your eyes protected from the sun’s harmful rays, trendy sunglasses are at the height of fashion. Pick up a pair (or two) and let the sun shine down!

For more information on UV protection, call Dr. Chesen’s Miramar optometric office at 954-437-9733.

arthritis in the Foot and ankle

According to the centers For disease control, an estimated 52.5 million American adults suffer from some form of arthritis. As our nation’s population ages, the

prevalence is expected to increase. Here are the answers to commonly asked questions about

arthritis in the foot and ankle:1. What is arthritis? Arthritis is a degenerative process

that may take place in any joint in the body. Cartilage which allows the joint to move smoothly starts to wear down. Bone spurring and bone cysts may occur as the joint wears abnormally. The joint starts to move out of its normal position creating pain with movement. A loss of joint movement also follows the arthritic process.

2. What causes arthritis? Most often arthritis is caused from an injury to the joint. The injury may occur as a child and it may manifest itself later in life. A bad injury to a bone or joint (fracture) may start the development of arthritis almost immediately after the injury. Arthritis is very common when a bone fractures into the joint. Malpositioning of the joint will cause abnormal wear and tear. It may also be seen in people who are exces-sively flatfooted, knock-kneed or bowlegged. It is also very common in people with bunions.

3. Will the arthritis get worse over time? In almost all cases arthritis in any joint will worsen. The joint will wear abnormally causing pain, limited motion of the joint, bone spurring and swelling around the joint. The joint will become excessively stiff causing pain with many activities. Difficulty with certain shoes may also be present.

4. Will medication help to lessen the pain and joint deformity? Oral medication will help to diminish some discomfort, but it will not change the degenerative process, which takes place slowly over time.

5. Will physical therapy be of any benefit? Physical therapy will help retain some movement in the joint and keep swelling to a minimum. It may also help to improve muscle strength. Over the long term it will be of limited benefit as the degenerative process will continue to take place.

6. Can surgery be of benefit if the arthritis is found early? Many proce-dures can be performed to assist in treating the degenerative process if found early. After a thorough history and physical examination x-rays are taken to assess the degree of joint damage. Occasionally if the damage is mild an arthroscopic or small open procedure may be necessary to remove abnormal bone and soft tissue. Cartilage that is lifted away from the bone is removed to allow the joint to function more normally. If a joint is out of position removing bone spurs and soft tissue may be of limited benefit. In this case the bones may need to be repositioned to allow more normal joint alignment.

7. Can anything be done if the arthritis is severe? In some cases the arthri-tis is severe and joint replacement or joint fusions may be necessary. Joint replacements are an excellent option and may be necessary in older, more sedentary patients. Fusing the joint that is arthritic and not allowing it to move any longer is also an excellent approach to the treatment of arthritis. This eliminates any painful movement allowing a return to work and activi-ties of daily living with minimal modifications. Some joints can be fused and still allow an athlete to resume professional sports

8. Will orthotics be of any benefit? Orthotics will assist in maintaining normal joint position. Support of the foot and placement of the foot in better anatomical position may redistribute stress more evenly in the foot and ankle region. This may help to lessen pain and possibly delay the need for surgery. They provide great benefits in people with big toe joint (turf toe, bunions) problems. Orthotics are also very useful in patients who are flatfooted, knock-kneed, bowlegged and in those with lower back pain.

In the quickly changing landscaPe oF Foreclosure cases in Florida, at least two new defenses are being accepted by courts in favor of homeowners. If these defenses are presented with the appropriate cases to

a judge, it should result in a dismissal or final judgment in favor of the borrower. The key is knowing when and how to present these defenses in your case.

The first defense is one we have previously mentioned in other articles; statute of limitations. The laws that set deadlines by when lawsuits must be filed are called statutes of limitations. Different deadlines exist for different types of law-suits, and they vary by state. In Florida, there is a five (5) year statute of limitations to file a foreclosure case. A lender that filed a previous foreclosure case which was dismissed for any reason CANNOT re-file another foreclosure case using the same date of non-payment, if the new lawsuit is filed more than 5 years after the date you stopped paying the mortgage. A key to a judgment in favor of the homeowner in the new action is proving that the default date on the old and new lawsuits is identical.

Another winning defense is based on the language of the notice of default and acceleration sent by the lender prior to the foreclosure. This is also commonly referred to as the “demand letter.” If the demand letter you received prior to a foreclosure indicates that you should “file a court action” in order to assert your defenses to acceleration and default, then it contradicts the language of your mortgage. Florida is a judicial foreclosure state, unlike the majority of states in the U.S. This means that a lender seeking to foreclose in Florida must first sue the homeowner in order to obtain title to the property after non-payment of the mort-gage. A homeowner is, therefore, not required to file a court action in Florida to assert defenses to foreclosure. However, many lenders drafted their demand let-ters incorrectly by using language that is only appropriate to non-judicial states. Florida homeowners in foreclosure can use this mistake to their benefit.

The attorneys at the Arcia Law Firm are privileged to successfully represent hundreds of homeowners in our community. We have foreclosure defense, loan modification and bankruptcy departments all within the same office, and we will gladly refer you to dozens of satisfied clients so you can be confident in your deci-sion to hire our Firm.

Detailed explanations of different options available to homeowners are also discussed in a unique DVD developed by the Arcia Law Firm entitled “Fight For Your Home.” If you mention that you heard about the DVD through this magazine, you will receive a complimentary copy during your free consultation to discuss your case in detail with a member of our highly experienced legal team.

If you are struggling to make your monthly mortgage payments, if you are in the middle of a frustrating loan modification process, or if you just received a foreclosure summons, contact the Arcia Law Firm today at 954-437-9066 to schedule a free personal consultation with Omar Arcia, or visit www.arcialaw-firm.com to schedule your appointment online.

aSk the sheriFF

As sheriFF, i want to ensure the broward Sheriff’s Office is doing everything we can for our coun-ty’s seniors, while honoring and respecting their inde-

pendence. The Broward 2-1-1 Senior Touchline is saving lives by providing a free daily wellness telephone call to seniors age 60 and over who live alone in Broward County.

In September 2013, BSO partnered with the Broward 2-1-1 Senior Touchline program. Our staff went into many senior communities throughout Broward County and educated

residents about this great service. As a result, this program expanded rapidly and more than doubled its number of participants. Rafael Vazquez, the senior touchline coordinator, estimates that nearly 80 percent of these new members are the result of BSO’s community outreach involvement.

Irene’s story highlights the importance of 2-1-1. In March 2013, she was stand-ing on a stool in her kitchen, stretching for a treat for Abby, her service dog, when she lost her balance and fell. Irene, who lives alone, was hurt and couldn’t move. When she missed her 9am call from Broward 2-1-1, a BSO deputy was dispatched to check on her.

Without 2-1-1, Irene may not have received the help she needed when she needed it. Here’s how it works. Up to three calls are placed to the senior’s home within an hour. If there is no response, and if the listed emergency contacts also cannot reach the person, Broward 2-1-1 Senior Touchline alerts BSO and a deputy is sent to the residence immediately.

The daily wellness call provides a safeguard for Broward seniors as well as social interaction. The 2-1-1 counselor establishes a caring, reliable relationship with the senior. The counselor can also connect seniors with other agencies and organizations that can provide additional assistance. Whether the individual requires food, transportation, medication or additional medical services, the counselors can help.

Irene will sometimes call in just to talk to one of the counselors. To seniors like her, the program provides a support system. It helps Broward seniors stay in their homes and remain independent.

The value of our senior population is clear to see, but is sometimes overlooked. They are a link to our past and, through their wisdom, provide a strong template for our future. The Broward 2-1-1 Senior Touchline is a great example of the type of services the seniors of our county have earned and deserve.

I urge any interested senior in our community to sign up for this important service.

For more information or to register for Broward 2-1-1 Senior Touchline, dial 2-1-1 or visit the Broward 2-1-1 website at http://211-broward.org/senior-touchline/.
