Record number of migrants, most of them refugees fleeing war and crisis in the Mideast

and Africa are seeking asylum in Europe.

The countries are grappling with what to do with the unprecedented numbers as the crisis escalates and measures are implemented to

control the masses.

Many have died on their perilous journeys across land and sea.
