Delhi's Aam Aadmi Party Law Minister in policecustody over alleged fake degree, quits

New Delhi, (IANS) A bitter battle between the central and AAPgovernments worsened on Tuesday as police arrested Delhi's LawMinister Jitender Singh Tomar amid high drama and secured afour-day police custody over his alleged fake degree. The AAPdenounced the arrest as vendetta. The minister late Tuesday submitted his resignation to ChiefMinister Arvind Kejriwal, saying he did not want the image ofthe Aam Aadmi Par ty (AAP) or the government to be tarnished.Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said Kejriwal accepted itand it would be forwarded to Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung onWednesday.Earlier on Tuesday, Metropolitan Magistrate Navjeet Budhirajasent Tomar to police remand af ter police argued that the AAPleader was an influential man who could fabricate documents ifhe remained free. The Bharatiya Janata Par ty (BJP) and theCongress promptly made fun of the AAP and asked Kejriwal toquit over the episode.Police slapped cases of cheating, criminal conspiracy andforgery af ter picking up Tomar from his office early in themorning and then dramatically taking him into custody. There was no comment from Kejriwal. But a livid Sisodia calledthe arrest illegal and said that an "Emergency-like situation" wasbeing imposed on the capital by Jung.Delhi Police, which reports to the lt. governor and the union homeministry, and not the AAP government, rejected charges of wrongdo-

ing. Its chief B.S. Bassi maintained that the arrest was "within theparameters of law". He said: "There is no conspiracy behind the arrest."The AAP, which took power in Delhi in February, accused police ofroughing up Tomar. Delhi assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel saidhe wasn't informed about the arrest.Sisodia said vested interests were ganging up against the AAPgovernment because of its anti-corruption campaign. He said about 40 policemen swooped on Tomar's office and tookhim away as if he was a fugitive."Police told Tomar that they had come to see some documents...They asked him to accompany them to his house. On the way theytold his driver to get off, took charge of the vehicle and told him thathe was being detained," said Sisodia, adding Tomar was told "thathe could ask someone to being the documents to the policestation"."What is going on?" he asked. "Was he (Tomar) running away? Didhe explode bombs in Delhi? There is an allegation (against him). The matter is in cour t. What was the need to arrest him?"Sisodia added: "This arrest is illegal. There is an Emergency-likesituation. This is supposed to be a democracy... Maybe it is anattempt to teach the AAP a lesson (for what we are doing)."The arrest triggered protests by AAP suppor ters at the Hauz Khaspolice station in south Delhi where Tomar was initially taken. Hewas later moved to Vasant Vihar where AAP leaders Ashutosh andKumar Vishwas staged a protest.

White House briefing room evacuated in bomb scareWashington, (IANS) The US Secret Service interrupted the daily press conference of White House spokesperson Josh Earnest in orderto temporarily evacuate the briefing room and one of the gardens of the presidential residence because of a bomb threat phoned to policethat later proved to be a false alarm.Repor ters covering the press conference were moved to a street separating the White House from the Eisenhower Executive OfficeBuilding, after President Barack Obama's spokesperson told them to leave the briefing room.A team of Secret Service agents inspected the room using dogs trained to detect explosives, and about half an hour after the evacuation, repor ters were able to return to the briefing room and the press conference resumed."Shor tly before 2 o'clock today a telephonic bomb threat concerning the room that we are now all in was called into the MetropolitanPolice Depar tment. The local police depar tment contacted Secret Service officials who determined that for the safety of all of us theyneeded to evacuate the room and then to sweep it," Efe news agency quoted Earnest as saying after the press conference resumed. He said the Secret Service was able to quickly check out the room and conclude they were in no danger. The White House spokesperson said the evacuation only affected the press briefing room and no other par t of the presidential residence. It did not affect President Obama, who was in the building at the time. The evacuation took place just hours after a hearing in the US Senate on the Transportation Security Administration, or TSA, was alsoevacuated when police in the Capitol received a previous bomb threat.Earnest said he had no information about whether the two bomb scares could have been related.

CONTD. FROM PAGE 3Q. What's so special about this project (Grid Condos) and how hasthe response been since its launch?Ans: Rather than trying to be too many things to too many people, thisproject caters directly to the surrounding Learning District. We thinkthat the full-floor Grid Learning Centre is the first amenity of its kind inToronto, a space where students from Ryerson, medical residentsfrom St. Michael's teaching hospital, young professionals working inthe nearby financial district or other members of the knowledgeeconomy can work and study either individually or in a collaborativesetting. The response to this focus has been overwhelming positive, and we're proud of the connection we've made to Ryerson especially,as the fastest growing research university in Canada. The location is also an integral par t of Grid's story - the project is atthe hear t of Toronto's Learning District, and Dundas and Jarvis is akey gateway intersection to the rapidly evolving east side of Toronto.Steps to major transit infrastructure such as the streetcar and sub-way, residents of Grid will have a strong connection to both theirneighbourhood and the rest of the city, hence our favourite phrase,"live on the grid".Q. What should the buyer look for before buying property in Toronto? First, it's impor tant to understand the developer and what their repu-tation is. We're proud of the success of all of our projects, and under-take development with a long-term focus. We are confident in Torontoas one of the best real estate markets in the world, and each develop-

ment decision is seen as par t of what it means to be a best-in-classdeveloper. As everyone will tell you, and as the old real estate adageheralds, it's impor tant to understand location. A smar t investor goesone step fur ther however, and understands the location of a proper tyin the context of time. The Learning District is quickly transforminginto a key area for tomorrow's thought leaders, and we feel that thisproject will play an integral par t in that genesis.Q. Many economists say Canada's housing market is at least 30%over priced and can crash any time. What are your thoughts on it?Do you see the real estate market slowing down? For star ters, economists have been saying that about the Torontomarket for about 20 years. Toronto is a unique market due to manyfactors, one of which being its continued, strong growth characterizedby an influx of people from around the world. While we may see themarket cool off somewhat from time to time as supply struggles to balance withToronto's seemingly insatiable demand, we are confident that an investor with amedium to long-term time horizon will continue to par ticipate in arewarding market for the foreseeable future.Q. Anything specific you wish to say and your message for thosewho wish to enter the real estate market.Other than to reiterate the points made in response to question fourabove, an impor tant par t of being a good investor is to feel good aboutwhat you're investing in. Make sure you feel good about the developeras a par tner, about your realtor as a trusted advisor, and about theproject as one that meets the needs of its area and its time.

Government of Canada Announces Callsfor Proposal Projects to Help Seniors

BY MP PARM GILL

Canadian seniors have played a central role in building this country. They have earned our respect and admiration, and they deserve oursuppor t to help them enjoy the best quality of life possible. That's why our Government has been working hard for seniors acrossCanada, providing over $2.8 billion in annual tax relief to seniors andpensioners, implementing pension income splitting and introducingthe largest top-up to the Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS) for thelowest income seniors in a quar ter century. Now there is a new oppor tunity for seniors in communities acrossCanada to benefit from projects funded through the New Horizons forSeniors Program (NHSP). From May 29 to July 10, 2015, two NHSPcalls for proposals will make it possible for organizations to apply forNHSP funding for their projects." Pan-Canadian projects funded through this call for propos-als will help prevent and reduce social isolation among seniors usingcollaborative approaches that place an emphasis on measurable re-sults. The Government of Canada is par tnering with the J.W. McConnellFamily Foundation's Innoweave initiative through its Seniors SI pro-gram to suppor t the development, implementation and scaling of thesecollaborative approaches to reduce social isolation among seniors." Community-based projects funded through this annual call

for proposals will help empower seniors to share their knowledge, skills and experiences with others and suppor t communities by in-creasing their capacity to address local issues. For more information on the details of each call and how to apply, please visit Canada.ca/Seniors.Social isolation involves low quantity and quality of contact with oth-ers, the absence of social roles and the absence of mutually reward-ing relationships. It can be triggered by cer tain events, such as theloss of a spouse, a change in income or an illness. It is therefore alsoassociated with higher levels of depression and suicide in seniors. The risk of hospitalization is four to five times greater for sociallyisolated seniors. Social isolation can also leave seniors vulnerableto elder abuse, including financial abuse.Since 2006, the NHSP has funded nearly 15,000 projects in hundredsof communities across Canada, which has made a significant differ-ence in the lives of seniors in local communities like ours. New Delhi, (IANS/IndiaSpend) When Narendra Modi travels toIsrael sometime later this year, he will be the first Indianprime minister to visit, formalising a relationship oftenconducted behind closed doors, through clandestine meetingsand secret agreements. The announcement is already generating heat, with somecriticising it, others urging caution - with one commentatorsuggesting a counter-balancing visit to Israeli arch-enemyIran - and some seeing it as an inevitable corollary to theconvergence of the ideologies of Hindutva and Likud, apolitical movement (rooted in the free market and Jewishculture) that coalesced into a political par ty.While India recognised Israel on September 17, 1950 - a yearafter it voted against UN membership for the Jewish state -full diplomatic ties were established only in 1992, thereticence flowing from India's traditional backing for thePalestinian cause.Since then, in the public eye, relationships have been definedby defence deals and the 38,000 mostly young Israelis whovisit India each year to de-stress after their compulsory two-three years of military service. The traffic isn't all one-waythough, more than 40,000 Indians visited Israel in 2013, thelargest number of tourists from an Asian country.Business and technological ties are also growing, and Indiaand Israel recently agreed to set up a $40 million India-Israelcooperation fund to promote joint scientific and technologicalcollaborations. Here are five things that define the India-Israel relationshiptoday:1. Defence. There is no getting away from the defencerelationship. Israel is India's fifth-largest source of arms, with impor ts wor th $0.21 billion in 2013-14 and $10 billion

over the past decade. The earliest signs of collaboration came during the 1962 Sino-Indian war, when Israel gave India military aid. Israel alsoaided India during the two wars with Pakistan in 1965 and1971, according to this ar ticle in the Stanford Journal ofInternational Relations.India reciprocated during the Six-Day War in 1967 by providingIsrael with spare par ts for Mystere and Ouragan aircraf t, aswell as AX-13 tanks, the Stanford repor t said. The highlight of the par tnership was Israel's supply of ar tilleryshells during the Kargil war, when India faced a shor tage.In the late 1990s, a crucial defence deal was the Indianpurchase of the Barak-1, an air-defence missile, boughtspecifically for its capability to intercept US-made Harpoonmissiles deployed by Pakistan.India's impor ts of unarmed vehicles (UAVs) have almost allbeen from Israel. Of the 176 purchased from Israel, 108 areSearcher UAVs and 68 are Heron UAVs, as IndiaSpendhasrepor ted.Israel has also pledged suppor t to the Make in India missionin the defence sector.Other major deals include the jointly-developed Barak-8 anti-ship-missile that the Indian Navy will be testing soon, and theSpyder missile system, which the Indian Air Force is procur-ing to counter aerial threats at low altitude. India and Israel alsoclosely cooperate on anti-terror activities and have signed agree-ments, among other matters, on homeland and public security andprotection of classified materials and information.2. Diplomacy. Several ministerial and high-level official visits toIsrael precede Modi's for thcoming tour. These include visits by thenhome minister L.K Advani in 2000 and Home Minister Rajnath Singhin November 2014.Both countries have signed several bilateral agreements since 1992,which include cooperation in agriculture, research and development, economy and industry and security.3. Agriculture. This has been an impor tant facet in the Indo-Israel relationship. India has benefited from Israel's exper tisein the sector, evident from the number of bilateral agreementssigned between the two nations. While Indian agriculture is largely dependent on rain and anerratic monsoon, Israel, a aglobal leader in drip irrigation, haspioneered deser t agriculture with sparse supplies of water.India has benefited from Israeli technologies in hor ticulturemechanisation, protected cultivation, orchard and canopy

management, nursery management, micro-irrigation andpost-harvest management, par ticularly in Haryana andMaharashtra. An Indo-Israel agriculture action plan unfolded between 2008and 2010 and has been extended until 2015 to provide"centres of excellence" in eight states to showcase the latesttechnologies to grow fruits, vegetables and flowers.Nearly 10 India-Israel centres of excellence for cooperationin agriculture have been set-up so far,of the 30 expected by2015.Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis recentlyvisited Israel, seeking agro-technology to address thefarming crisis in the Vidarbha and Marathwada regions.4. Water Management. Technologically adept Israel hasdeveloped water-management technologies, located as it isin a semi-arid region with limited sources of fresh drinkingwater.Israel's exper tise includes recycling waste water anddesalination. Indian companies and official delegationsregularly visit the biannual Water Technology & EnvironmentControl Exhibition & Conference, which showcases Israel'swater and energy technologies.IDE, an Israeli company, has built several desalination plantsin India, including a 100-million-litre per day desalinationplant at Nemelli in Tamil Nadu, commissioned in 2013.5.Trade. India's total trade with Israel is $6.06 billion in 2013-14, up 57 percent over 2009-10. The trade balance stood inIndia's favour at $1.44 billion in 2013-14.Mineral fuels and oils are India's leading expor t to Israelwor th $1.45 billion in 2013-14.India's major imports from Israel in 2013-14 included natural orcultured pearls and precious stones worth $1.20 billion. Stones andpearls are the second-largest commodity, in terms of value, exported to Israel from India after mineral fuels. The Indo-Israel trade in diamonds increased 98 percent from $1.25billion in 2009 to $2.48 billion in 2013.Nearly 40 diamond dealers from India have opened offices at theIsraeli diamond exchange in Ramat-Gan. Some of these dealershave been active in Israel for nearly 30-40 years.Since 2010, the two countries have been negotiating a free-trade agreement for goods and services, which should boostinvestments and trade ties.Israel ranks 44th in terms of foreign direct investment in India, puting in $82million between April 2000 and February 2015.

I hear this every time I meetwith municipal leaders across the country. There is no shortage ofgreat ideas, but we are falling short in giving our cities and towns theinfrastructure they need to attract new businesses and create newjobs,” said Mr. Trudeau. “It is time for a new agreement between ourmunicipalities, provinces and the federal government. It is time for anew revenue source, dedicated and delivered to local governments.”The Liberal plan for infrastructure will feature strategic investments that willmake a real difference, including in affordable housing, public transit andtransportation, climate change and smart cities. In addition, Mr. Trudeaucommitted a future Liberal government to holding a Big City Mayors’ meet-ing in Ottawa on an annual basis to discuss pressing issues facing our cities.“Fairness for Canada’s cities and communities is possible, but it requires areal partner in Ottawa that respects local experience and lives up to itsresponsibilities,” said Mr. Trudeau. “A Liberal government will help build themodern infrastructure needed to preserve our quality of life, create moregood jobs, drive productivity, and keep our economy moving forward. Wewill make our communities strong and prosperous places that Canadiansare proud to call home.”

Remaining Citizenship Actreforms coming into forceOttawa, ON — A final suite of reforms to strengthen and modernize Canada’scitizenship laws will be fully in force as of June 11, 2015. The changes – partof a package of measures approved by Parliament last year – ensure newcitizens can fully and quickly participate in Canada’s economy and Cana-dian society. The first set of provisions that came into force last summer tostrengthen Canadian citizenship and speed up application processing timesare already paying off. New citizenship applications are being finalized in ayear or less, and it is expected that the backlog of older files will have beeneliminated by the end of this fiscal year. Individuals who submitted a citizen-ship application before April 1, 2015 will have a decision by March 31, 2016.Among the many benefits of the government’s citizenship reforms, the newprovisions will deter citizens of convenience – those who become citizensfor the sake of having a Canadian passport to return to Canada to accesstaxpayer-funded benefits that come with citizenship status, without havingany attachment to Canada, or contributing to the economy.Key changes include (in force June 11, 2015): Adult applicants must now be physically present in Canada for atleast 1,460 days (four years) during the six years before the date of theirapplication, and they must be physically present in Canada for at least183 days in each of four calendar years within the qualifying period. This is aimed at ensuring that citizenship applicants develop a strongattachment to Canada. Applicants between the ages of 14 and 64 must meet basic knowl-edge and language requirements. This is aimed at ensuring that morenew citizens are better prepared for life in Canada. Citizenship will be automatically extended to additional “Lost Cana-dians” on June 11th, who were born before 1947, and did not becomecitizens on January 1, 1947 when the first Canadian Citizenship Actcame into effect. This will also apply to their children born in the firstgeneration outside Canada. Adult applicants must declare their intent to reside in Canada oncethey become citizens and meet their personal income tax obligations inorder to be eligible for citizenship. To help improve program integrity, there are now stronger penaltiesfor fraud and misrepresentation (to a maximum fine of $100,000 and/orup to five years in prison). This is aimed at deterring unscrupulousapplicants who are prepared to misrepresent themselves, or adviseothers to do so. The newly-designated Immigration Consultants of Canada Regula-tory Council (ICCRC) is the new regulatory body for citizenship consult-ants. Only members of the ICCRC, lawyers or notaries (including parale-gals and students at law) can be paid to provide citizenship applicants withrepresentation or advice. New application forms, aligned with the new rules for eligibility, will beavailable on the CIC website as of June 11, 2015. Any applications receivedusing the old forms and applications received after June 10, 2015 will bereturned to the applicant.Quotes“Our reforms ensure new citizens are better prepared for full participa-tion in Canada’s economy and Canadian society. This is a win for newcom-ers, and a win for Canada in terms of making the most of the opportunitiesthat our fair and generous immigration system provides.”“We are eliminating long backlogs, and streamlining our own processes. Atthe same time, we are ensuring Canadian citizenship is highly valued andstays that way. Promise made, promise kept when it comes to strengthen-ing the value of Canadian citizenship.”Chris Alexander, Canada’s Citizenship and Immigration Minister

Ontario Removing Barriers toOpportunity Through Changes toPolice Record ChecksONTARIO - Ontario is introducing new legislation that would, if passed, eliminate unnecessary barriers to employment, education and volunteeropportunities resulting from the inappropriate release of non-conviction ormental health information disclosed during a police record check. The new standards for police record checks will implement the advice of theMinister's Table on Policing and Civil Liberties and will build on the consen-sus achieved through the creation of the 2014 Law Enforcement and RecordsManagers Network (LEARN) Guideline. The guideline was developed by abroad spectrum of policing, civil liberties, human rights, community safety, mental health, and non-profit groups in Ontario in response to concerns aboutthe lack of standardization of police record checks. The proposed Police Record Checks Reform Act, 2015, to be introducedtoday, would set the province's first clear, consistent and comprehensive setof standards for how police record checks are requested, conducted, anddisclosed by:" Ensuring that all police services in Ontario consistently offer threetypes of police record checks - criminal record checks, criminal record andjudicial matters checks and vulnerable sector checks" Limiting and standardizing the types of information that can bereleased for each type of police record check" Ensuring that the person to whom a record relates has an opportu-nity to review the results prior to permitting its release to a requesting thirdparty" Providing individuals with a process to request that certain typesof non-conviction records, like dismissed charges, be reconsidered and notdisclosed.A vulnerable sector check would be available in cases where an individual isin a position of trust or authority over vulnerable persons, like children or thevulnerable elderly. The legislation also introduces a new test so that relevantnon-conviction information required for vulnerable sector checks is releasedin order to keep vulnerable persons safe. Protecting individual civil libertiesand strengthening public safety is part of the government's plan for Ontario. The four-part plan includes investing in people's talents and skills, makingthe largest investment in public infrastructure in Ontario's history, creating adynamic, innovative environment where business thrives, and building asecure retirement savings plan." Our government is protecting individualcivil liberties and public safety with this important bill. The proposed legisla-tion would ensure a provincewide standard for police record checks and willeliminate the disclosure of non-criminal records to increase employmentand volunteering opportunities for countless Ontarians. These changes willensure that Ontarians are not negatively impacted by records of police con-tacts that do not pertain to criminal activity. This approach will help buildstronger, safer communities right across Ontario." - Yasir Naqvi, Minister ofCommunity Safety and Correctional Services

POLITICAL COMPULSIONS FORCELALU TO ACCEPT NITISH

BY IMRAN KHANPatna, (IANS) Political compulsions, not secular values, forcedRJD chief Lalu Prasad to accept JD-U leader Nitish Kumar as the chiefministerial candidate in the coming Bihar elections, realizing that this alonecould check the BJP in the politically crucial state.Lalu Prasad, those close to him say, realized af ter the 2014 LokSabha election that it was division of anti-BJP votes that routedhis Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Nitish Kumar's Janata Dal-United (JD-U).This was proved more or less correct when the RJD and JD-Utogether bagged six of the 10 seats in assembly by-elections afterthe Lok Sabha battle, leaving the BJP with just four seats.

That fur ther cemented the ties between Nitish Kumar and LaluPrasad, who for years had been at each's other throats after oncebeing together in the erstwhile Janata Dal.But it wasn't all cosy though. With assembly elections approach-ing, Lalu Prasad -- who has been chief minister and so has beenhis wife Rabri Devi -- wanted to fight the polls with the JD-U butwasn't keen on accepting Nitish Kumar as the chief ministerialcandidate. That is when Samajwadi Par ty leader Mulayam Singh Yadav in-tervened. On Monday, he announced that Lalu Prasad had ac-cepted that Nitish Kumar would head the Janata Parivar's chargein Bihar. The elections are most likely in September-October.

For both Lalu Prasad and NitishKumar, defea t ing the BJP istheir priority -- for political sur-vival. Nit ish Kumar has ruledBihar for about a decade fromNovember 2005 with a shor tbreak."Lalu understands more thananyone else that a split in anti-BJP vo tes w i l l r esu l t i n h ispar ty's defeat again like in theLok Sabha polls," JD-U leaderNihora Prasad told IANS."La lu was fo rced to accep tNitish as captain after the Con-gress and NCP announced theirsuppor t for Nitish." I f Lalu had not changed hiss tand over N i t i sh , h is par tywould have been left alone tofight for political survival."The RJD and JD-U, f igh t ingseparately, garnered nearly 20and 16 per cent votes respec-tively in the Lok Sabha election. The Congress got another eightper cent.

BIHAR POLL: BJP UNCERTAIN ONNAMING CM CANDIDATE

BY BRAJENDRA NATH SINGHNew Delhi, (IANS) In wake of Nitish Kumar's announcement as thechief ministerial candidate of JD-U-RJD-Congress combine for theupcoming Bihar assembly polls, the BJP is a dilemma whether itshould also announce its candidate for the top post or bank on PrimeMinister Narendra Modi's popularity. The party's poll debacle in Delhihas sent the leadership guessing whether to bank on Prime MinisterNarendra Modi's image or to go with a popular face from the stateonly.Since the BJP's state unit leadership does not have any match to thestature of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, the central leadership is in abind over the issue.Inputs from central leadership clearly indicated that par ty is not goingto repeat the Delhi experiment, where former IPS officer Kiran Bediwas declared the par ty's chief ministerial candidate at the very lastmoment. Till then, the par ty had banked on Modi's charisma. If the par ty decides to go in elections with a face, it will have theoption to select its chief ministerial candidate only from within thepar ty's state unit. Even the RSS has suggested the par ty honour itscadres hard work and sacrifices rather than imposing leaders fromoutside. "Par ty insiders feels that it will be better for the par ty if it

'DIL DHADAKNE DO'PULSATING WITH FINE PERFORMANCES

BY TROY RIBEIRO

Narrated from Pluto, the omnipresent family dog's point of view, "DilDhadakne Do" is a classic and an oft-seen tale about love, freedomand hypocrisy in a dysfunctional family. The story is the usual, run-of-the-mill; a family meets for a grandoccasion followed by a catharsis. Here it is to celebrate the 30thwedding anniversary of Kamal (Anil Kapoor) and Neelam (Shefali Shah)Mehra, the most envied couple in Delhi's high-flying society. To keep upwith his standard and image, Kamal Mehra sponsors a cruise to Turkeyand Greece for his family and friends. But unknown to the rest of the world,Kamal Mehra and his family are battling their own demons. The senior Mehras are an estranged couple, Kamal is a shrewdbusinessman, whose every move in life revolves around his business. His wife Neelam leads a pretentious life. Son Kabir (Ranveer Singh), agood-for-nothing in the eyes of his father, desires to take up flying, butis expected to take the reins of his family business. Daughter Ayesha(Priyanka Chopra), married to Manav (Rahul Bose), is a promisingentrepreneur locked in an unhappy marriage. The rest of the troupe too, come with their own baggage of grouses and heartbreaks. On the cruise, the inevitable happens. It is fascinating to observe thelayers of their persona and drama unfold with stimulating perfor-mances from the ensemble cast. Ranveer Singh as Kabir and ShefaliShah as Neelam Mehra outshine the other actors. Ranveer is acomplete package, with a blend of a restrained, as well as an exuber-ant performance. He steals your heart, as he plays the charming Kabirwith panache. On the other hand, Shefali Shah emotes with herexpressive eyes. Her expressions are worth a freeze, especially in thescenes; when she is depressed and binging on the chocolate cake andwhen Ayesha tells her about her intention to divorce.Farhan Akhtar, in a special appearance as the journalist Sunny Gill andAnushka Sharma as the dancer Farah Ali, play Ayesha and Kabir's loveinterest. With limited on screen time they both leave an indelible mark-- Farhan with his controlled and understated performance andAnushka with her usual vibrant and uncomplicated demeanour.Ridhima Sud as Noorie Sood makes an impressive debut. She is castopposite Vikrant Massey and they make a competent pair. Anil Kapooras Kamal Mehra walks through his performance in the first half of thefilm but breathes life into some intense scenes in the latter half.Priyanka Chopra had her share of wow moments as Ayesha, whileRahul Bose as Manav, her stiff-upper-lipped husband, is his usual selfand offers nothing spectacular. Among the character actors, ZarinaWahab as Manav's mother and Ayesha Raza Misra as Indu, Kamal's

sister-in-law, have their moments to shine. Treated as a family dramaand mounted on a wide canvas, the writer duo Reema Kagti and ZoyaAkhtar maintain a perfect pulse of humour and drama, balancing thewell-etched character graphs to the plot. They succeed in presentingthe dichotomy in the relationships. With spurts of entertaining andpoignant moments, they hit the right notes and emotions, but falter atplaces by taking cinematic liberty in certain scenes with respect to thepoint of view. The dialogues by Farhan Akthar are as quirky as thecharacters in the film and they liven the scenes. The voice lent toPluto, is that of Aamir Khan, which you realise only once the creditsroll. The music and background score is well-meshed into thenarration. It is the cinematography by Carlos Catalan that is impres-sive. His one-take shot of the entire song "Gallan goodiyaan" isremarkable. With a run time of nearly three hours, the pace of the filmis slow, but it's entertaining!

Paris, (IANS) World No.9 Stanislas Wawrinka claimed his secondGrand Slam title and maiden French Open crown after beating worldNo.1 Novak Djokovic 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-4 in the final here on Sunday.Djokovic's dream of completing the career Grand Slam went in vain asthe Swiss outplayed the eight-time Grand Slam champion in a four-setthriller here, thus claiming his second Grand Slam crown after winninghis first in 2014 Australian Open.Wawrinka staved off an immediate break point in the opening game ofthe match, and a pulsating 39-shot rally punctuated a hard-fought holdfor the Swiss. But Djokovic's efforts to take a first-set lead would not be thwarted twogames later, breaking to love when Wawrinka double faulted down 0/40. With former World No. 1 Gustavo Kuerten and Bjorn Borg in atten-dance, along with Mansour Bahrami and actor Clive Owen, Djokovic, with some top shots, claimed the first set 6-4.Wawrinka came back strongly in the second set, winning a pair ofbreak chances to take a 3-1 lead. With Djokovic serving at 4-5 30/0, the Swiss struck a sublime returnon a leaping kick serve and laced a backhand winner.A backhand unforced error would give Wawrinka his sixth break pointof the match - and first set point - and this time he would not let it slip, forcing the top seed to misfire from the baseline after a grueling ex-change of backhand power. Four straight points from 30/0 down for theeighth seed and the match was drawn level at a set apiece. As the third set began, the Swiss continued to apply the pressure onDjokovic. But the World No. 1 was ruthless with his back against thewall, saving an additional three break points in the second game. With the momentum vacillating between the two competitors in theearly stages of the third set, Wawrinka saw another opening onDjokovic's serve and finally converted.A near-flawless return game granted him a 0/40 lead behind two ropedbackhand winners and he would break to love, pulling ahead 4-2. Heripped 15 winners and won 19 of 21 first serve points in the third, claiming all six points when venturing to the net.Wawrinka's fortunes at the net would change momentarily in the sec-ond game of the fourth set as a netted approach followed by a back-hand error gave the Serb an immediate 2-0 lead. Djokovic wouldconsolidate for 3-0, but that's where his run would come to an abruptend. Wawrinka reeled off 12 of the next 15 points to break back anddraw level at 3-all.An ill-advised Djokovic serve and volley on a second serve at 4-alldeuce gave Wawrinka his 15th break point of the match. The Swisswould not be denied the break, nor the match, converting on his sec-ond championship point at 5-4 with his 60th winner of the match, arifled backhand down the line. With the title, Wawrinka also becomethe sixth former Roland Garros boys' champion to win the men's title.

DHONI MADE US BELIEVE IN OURSELVES: RAHANEKolkata, (IANS) Even as he hailed Indian Test skipper Virat Kohli for his aggression, batsman Ajinkya Rahane on Sunday creditedformer skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni for making the youngsters in the team to believe in themselves."Playing under Dhoni, we youngsters learnt a lot, he gave us massive confidence - be it Tests, ODIs or T20s. He actually taughtus how to believe in ourselves and how to react to each and every situation," said Rahane, who made his Test debut under Dhoniin 2013 against Australia."Everyone has learnt a lot under Dhoni and he is still the captain in ODIs. So we are really happy for that," he said about Dhoniwho retired from Test cricket during India's tour to Australia.Talking to media persons on the eve of the team's depar ture for Bangladesh, Rahane also praised new Test skipper Virat Kohli."Virat is really aggressive on the field, doesn't matter whether the opponents are Australia, England or Bangladesh. He givesconfidence to each and every individual and we really respect him as a captain," said Rahane.India will leave for Bangladesh on Monday where they play a one-off Test match, beginning June 10, followed by a three-matchOne-Day International (ODI) series.Attributing India's recent poor overseas per formance to the side's inexperience, Rahane exuded confidence of doing well in theBangladesh series. "The team that travelled to New Zealand, South Africa, and England was a young unit and it is very hard tocompare that with the current because we have now an experienced side. During the (recent) Australia series we playedaggressively and wanted to win each and every match and we will carry this attitude.""We are now an experienced side and we know the conditions well. So from here on we will be doing well," added Rahane. Talkingabout himself, Rahane said he was more focused on improving as a batsman with every match, rather than on setting andachieving individual goals.
