mother here in the United States.

Stewardship of Creation We have been asked to take care of God’s Creation. How do we as the Body of Christ and

individuals steward God’s Creation? Don’t miss this special Sunday, April 23 when we explore the UMC Social Principles and creative ways to love and care for all creation! Our liturgy will praise God for this gift of Creation, the bells will peal out in Celebration and you will also be

challenged to practice stewardship of God’s handiwork here at St. Paul’s and at home!

Dear Friends, First, thank you for making my birthday so special—your calls, gifts, cards and well-wishes touched my heart—as I continue to celebrate the gift of life and the abundant opportunities God has given me to serve. We were so blessed by our Easter music and servanthood, the attendance and joy and laughter and feasting of Easter! I hope you were involved in one of the many services we offered. It was wonderful to share Holy Thursday and Tenebrae with our friends at Tree of Life—over the years we have continued our partnership and it has truly blessed us! But these services don’t happen magically—they don’t just “appear”! Here are a few of the folks who helped make them happen”:

Our Staff Alice Mullins, Vicki Spence, Shelley Reel, Duane Dillard & Jeanne Hatton for their contributions in each of their ministry areas to provide strong and powerful worship to all.

To the Chancel Choir & St. Paul’s Ringers for their commitment & rehearsals, along with special guest accompanist Jeff Anderson.

Special thanks to Derrick Dillman & Andrew Widger for percussion accompaniment in our worship.

John Harmer & Kendall Reitzes for reading at the Maundy Thursday service;

A special thanks to each who assisted Saturday in preparing the sanctuary & church yard for this celebration: especially Jan Corby, Janet Miller & Dick & Ellie Leuliette; Trevor Shoun & Charlii Miller for sound at Tenebrae Service.

And thanks to The United Methodist Men organized by Paul Loder and including Charlii Miller, Alan Martin, Dick Leuliette & Dave Sydnor for setting up for the First Dawn of Easter Service at Buckworth’s.

Barbara Manlove for helping with set-up & clean up with Easter services; Kenzel Messick, Ginny Guessford & Patti Harmer for helping with set-up of Easter

breakfast Lynda Whitehead, Lynda Lambert, Lois & Paul Loder, Sandy Urstadt, Cathy Blanco,

Mary & Allen Ingram for assisting with Fellowship Mark Holden & Charlii Miller for photography and Charlii for help with the dishwasher

fiasco during Easter service; Mike Kennedy, Mary Korb & Vic Amey for their music at the 7 AM

service and Victoria Dahn for her help; Vicki Spence for assisting us in our evangelism efforts to share the

Good News by making the “Tell Your Peeps” handouts to parishioners Sunday!!!

The Youth for “egging” our neighborhood with invitations to worship All of you who pitched in with servant hearts to help! Carolyn Stanley for delivering our Basket-ful of Briefs Underwear Drive

to the Sunday Breakfast Mission. Tomorrow I head to a Nica Connection meeting at which I will see much of the work that our denomination is doing to bring the Good News of Jesus Christ to the Nicaraguan people. I am especially excited about the church build at Las Parcelas. Check out the info below--already they are making great progress—it’s exciting to see how how much the people participate in these builds. And the inspiration is not just in Nicaragua—it is at our very fingertips if we proclaim the FAITH NEWS of Resurrection to our friends and family! I pray that you will join me in doing so as we continue RESURRECTION JOY throughout the Great Fifty Days of Easter! With a grateful heart,

Pastor Karin

MUSIC MINISTRY NOTES

What a glorious Easter season at St. Paul’s!

A special thank you to all our musicians and worship arts volunteers. As a result of their hard work and commitment, the musical accounts of Christ’s betrayal, crucifixion, death and triumph over death were meaningful and memorable. Space does not allow me to recognize them individually, nor do I have the words to sufficiently express my deepest appreciation for all they do in sharing their time and their talents.

Thank you also to all those who attended the Easter season worship services -– our servant-centered Maundy Thursday joint service with our brothers and sisters in Christ at Tree of Life Lutheran Church, our somber Tenebrae Service of

Shadows in remembrance of Christ’s crucifixion on Good Friday, and our joyous celebrations of His resurrection on Easter morning.

Last, but certainly not least, thank you members of the congregation and the MOT community for your support for the music ministry at St. Paul’s during the Easter season and throughout the year. Your expressions of praise and gratitude, especially those received after Easter Sunday further affirmed that we are accomplishing the number one goal of the music ministry at St. Paul’s -- Soli Deo Gloria – To God Alone the Glory!

Blessings, Shelley

WE NEED A SERVANT TO ATTEND THIS!!!!

EVANGELISM FOR THE 21ST CENTURY with Heather Lear WHEN: THIS Saturday, April 22 at 9 AM to noon WHERE: Calvary UMC, 301 S E Front Street, Milford, DE 19963 View Registration Forms Evangelism In The 21st Century → Evangelism in the 21st Century

What does (and does not) evangelism mean and look like for United Methodists? How do we connect with our communities? How is my congregation equipped to serve and be a witness “for such a time as this?”

Prior to beginning her position as Director of Evangelism for the United Methodist Church in 2013, Heather Lear served as pastor of three congregations in North Carolina, where she is an ordained elder in the North Carolina Annual Conference. Heather holds degrees from Boston University, Duke Divinity School, and Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary. She is grateful for her husband’s support that enables her ministry and her 8-year old son, who constantly reminds her of what the Kingdom of God looks like.

Please join us (and bring a team from your church with you!) as we explore these and other questions around evangelism, discipleship, and outreach in our 21st Century context. If you are interested in doing some work prior to the 22nd, Rev. Lear has invited you to join a free 5-week webinar course that she will be leading with Mark Teasdale, the evangelism professor at Garret-Evangelical. Here is the link for more information and how to register: http://www.markteasdale.net/evo-evangelism-online.html

A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC BENEFIT CONCERT Friday, April 28 from 7-8:30 PM by the Tri-M Music Honor Society of Middletown High School Join us for this evening of a variety of music, with our own Kinme Reeves & his friends to benefit their outreach to the MOT community. While there is no charge, donations are welcome. Mr. Rocky Tejada, Director of Music at MHS will accompany this talented group of youth as they perform a full complement of music for you. Invite your friends and family to support these fine youth!

Health Ministry Team AED Last week on my routine check of the AED I found that someone other than myself had opened the cabinet and apparently decided to remove and destroy the pad and wiring. The major concern being the AED was non-functioning for a period of time. Fortunately, there was not a disastrous situation in which the AED was needed. Replacement of the abused parts is an unnecessary cost to our Church. Please do not attempt to open the cabinet unless there is an emergency requiring that it be opened. I will be glad to show anyone the AED—you must be trained to use it--and contents but please do not open unless required in an emergency. Thank you, Ann Newswanger

JOY NEWS On May 12, we’ll have a pot luck supper at church and then hear our very own Faye Green speak on her new book A DAUGHTER IS GIVEN. Sign-up sheets will be in the Narthex very soon. We recently checked out our very own Duane Dillard playing at Skipjack Restaurant in Newark, and we will be going there in the very near future

to hear him perform on the keyboard and have a delicious dinner. Watch for “coming attractions” and come along with us and get to know each other in good Christian fellowship! Ann Raymond and Phyllis Burris, Co-chairpersons of JOY

IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN A TRIP TO THE NEW YORK BOTANICAL GARDENS OUTDOOR INSTALLATION OF DALE CHIHULY WORK PLEASE SIGN THE INTEREST SHEET IN THE NARTHEX and we will try to organize a group trip!

UPDATE ON LAS PARCELAS CHURCH BUILD NICA TRIP #1

14

Please help raise part of the $3000 for final phase of construction! Our week is the LAST WEEK of the build at the church at Las Parcelas outside of León where we have worked several times. The church already had a concrete floor and a roof and some perimeter cinder block walls, but as you can see the structure is going at a fast pace. We will be completing the construction, painting and spiffing up, putting up fence, working with kids and preparing for the dedication of the church. Currently Pastor Karin is taking one teen and an adult from Skyline UMC; while we already have our tickets there is room for more team members. Contact Pastor T if you are interested. Wayne Jones, from the Mississippi Seashore District Conference is the current Nicaraguan Church build coordinator. He is under direct supervision of IGLEMEN, the governing board for the Methodist Church in Nicaragua. After IGLEMEN decides where the next Church will be built, Wayne meets with the local Pastor and IGLEMEN to decide specific needs of the area. Plans are then drawn up and a budget is made to determine cost of the project.

Two Bathrooms $4,500 Caretaker Room $4,800 Sunday School Room $5,300 Temple $19,000 Interior Furnishings $1,500 Mural & Signage $ 700 Porch $3,200 Kitchen $2,400 Entrance $1,800 Miscellaneous exp, truck, fuel, materials transport, etc. $3,000

Total Budget $46,200 Amount pledged $33,000 Shortfall $13,000

By using the team build approach, each church raises money and serves 1-2 weeks building the Church. Whenever possible Wayne hires Church members to help with construction. As most of you know Nicaragua is one of the poorest countries in the western hemisphere with an average income of less than $2 per day. The local workers are employed for around 2 ½ months giving them a financial, moral, and just as important, pride of ownership by helping build their place of worship! Additionally, each Nicaraguan Pastor that we helped commits to send a team to help build each new church. This year teams from Esteli, Villa Roma, and Masatepe will send teams to Las Parcelas, Leon to help on this year’s build.

Another trip is planned for October or November for a church build at La Mejada, also outside of León, again based on the timeline scheduled by the site manager.

NAMI Walk- 5K [National Alliance on Mental Illness] Saturday, May 6, Glasgow Park on Rt. 40 in Bear, check in at 9 AM, walk at 10 AM. Cystic Fibrosis Strides Walk in memory of Kendall Reed

May 6, 2017

My family and friends are once again raising funds for the Cystic Fibrosis Strides Walk that will be held on May 6, 2017. This will be our 11th walk in memory of my son, Kendall, who died at the tender age of 23. Those of you who knew Kendall will remember him as an ornery guy, with a half-cocked smile and not a care in the world. He played baseball, wrestled, fished, and loved hunting. Most people would never have guessed that he had a terrible lung disease that would cut his vibrant life so short.

Kendall’s wonderful family and friends have raised about $93,000 for research for this dreaded disease since his passing through this walk and the former Roosterfest. The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation has made remarkable advancements in this field, and I believe there will be a cure someday. I also know that Kendall’s family and friends have played a vital part in the foundation’s success. But it is not over until we find that “cure.”

Please join our “Red Rooster” team at Dravo Plaza @ the Riverfront in Wilmington [815 Justison Street near the Frawley Stadium]. Check-in time: 8:30 a.m. Walk at 9 a.m. If you can’t join us, please consider a donation to the “Cystic Fibrosis Foundation” to work towards a cure so that other kids may have a chance at a full life.

Please read the attachment showing the accomplishments that the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation has made since Kendall’s passing and know that your donation does help.

Thanks so much!!! Charlotte Checks can be made payable to: Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and mailed to: Mrs. Ronald Miller 275 Cassidy Wharf Road Earleville, MD 21919
