NT Cricket Alice Springs devel- opment officer Phil Lovell said it was a great result for local cricket. He said: ‘‘At the end of the day, any result for Alice Springs is a good result. We’ve got a smaller population and limited numbers to choose from, so to be so dominant was really encouraging. ‘‘It’s a credit to captain Jayden Dick, who bowled well and did a good job to put out great perform- ances and manage the team. ‘‘It is also a credit to Harry Weeks, Ben Ellis and others who bowled well. Our bowling and fielding really stood out during the carnival.’’ Although the under-15s didn’t win a match, the young team played well and benefited from the week-long tournament experi- ence. Sam Dick, who also played in the under-13 team, and captain Mark Robertson battled well to score 23 each as the team posted 84, but it wasn’t enough as the under-15 champions Top End Buffaloes scored the required runs with eight wickets to spare. Lovell said: ‘‘It was a young team and it was good to see Matthew Green from Tennant Creek, who played in the NT under-13 team earlier this year, and it was a good experience for Tabatha Saville and Tom Nixon, who have repre- sented the SACA and NT respect- ively during the last 12 months. ‘‘The results don’t show how well they played as they are a very young team and if we keep the team together for next year, they will benefit from their experi- ence.’’ Lovell said the whole carnival has been a success for Alice Springs and shows that local cricket has a promising future. Lovell said: ‘‘ We unearthed Banjo Waring and Tom Kelaart, two ten year olds who were rela- tively unknown before the under- 13 Mid Year Carnival and the performances of our more mature players stand us in good stead and new players and younger players can aspire to be like Jayden Dick and perform well in junior repre- sentative cricket.’’ Karts fire: P27
