Yet, when it comes down to it, how do you know that new truck order or aerodynamic investment is going to pay off for your fleet? The only way to know for sure is to test. Goodyear names Highway HeroChosen from three finalists, Julian Kaczor (left) of
Utica, N.Y., received the 33rd Goodyear Highway Hero Award Thursday during the Mid-America Trucking Show. Kaczor was driving through Jack-sonville, Fla., when a car drive past him at a high speed, nearly clipping his truck. The car crashed into a construction barrier and began to emit smoke. Kaczor ran to the car as it became engulfed in flames, which he tried to extinguish. As the fire intensified, he forced the car’s driver side door open, pulled the injured driver out of the vehicle, and dragged him to safety.
“Julian acted instantly to help another person who was in need, without regard for his own well-being,” said Gary Medalis, Goodyear’s marketing director. “His decision to get involved exemplifies the courage and decisiveness of professional truck drivers.”
As the winner, Kaczor receives a special Highway Hero ring, a $5,000 prize and other items. Booth #24185 www. goodyeartrucktires.com

DaimlerSuperTruck programexceeds goals
Daimler Trucks North America’s (DTNA) SuperTruckprogram has achieved 115% freight efficiency improve-ment—surpassing the Department of Energy (DOE)program’s goal of 50% improvement and exhibiting thebest results of all reporting OEMs. The SuperTruck wasunveiled at MATS in the Freightliner Trucks booth(#30125). To validate the lofty targets set by the DOE, DTNA engineers conducted a series of tests. Tomeasure freight efficiency, DTNA ran vehicle testing on highway routes in Oregon and Texas, one cityroute in Portland, Ore., and anti-idle testing in both a cold chamber and hot chamber. These tests resultedin a combined 115% freight efficiency improvement over a 2009 baseline truck.
