It without doubt has been an unsettling time for everyone but together we have shown strength and resilience as a community and also individually. As the conditions and restrictions continue to ease I have no doubt that we are all looking forward to the commencement of Term 3 in which we hope will be more aligned to our regular routines of school life. Normally there is an abundance of events to report on but this is not so due to the restrictions we have been under so this is short and sweet. I am a firm believer that in every crisis lies opportunity. So with that in mind what I am very proud of during this pandemic is that we have looked for ways to seize an opportunity to stay connected within and outside of our school community and a clear highlight for me has been the success of our live-streamed events. From our ANZAC Service through to Parent Connect Forums and whole school assemblies, the positive feedback and engagement has been nothing short of extraordinary. This will undoubtedly be one of our biggest silver linings in this pandemic that we will continue to use to engage our whole community to further enhance working hand in hand with one another for the betterment of our students. With COVID-19 absorbing our schools and global news for a significant amount of time I hope you enjoy the remainder of this newsletter that shifts our focus back to what matters most in our school community. That being student success stories, community spirit, supporting local businesses and keeping our eye on the future for our students. Although we have enormous travel restrictions, I hope that you have the opportunity to enjoy family time and the beautiful place that we live over the upcoming winter break. On behalf of the team at Miami State High School, I wish you all a relaxing break and I look forward to seeing you all on Monday 13 July 2020 for the commencement of Term 3. It has been fantastic getting all of our students back into classesfor face to face learning and finalising our term in Maths!Students have been asked to bring devices daily and of course– a calculator. This unusual term has provided teachers withthe opportunity to acquire and grow a new advanced set of ICTskills resulting in very high quality online learning opportunitiesfor students. A strong fact has jumped out for us – the directionfor our best practice will be a combination of teacher directedlearning using ASOT skills and online digital learning. So weneed students bringing devices to every maths lesson asdirected by their teacher.
