MGT 372 Group Report Guideline Course Instructor: SFq Think that you are the managers of a multinational corporation. Now your corporation wants to invest in any lucrative industry of a developing country. Therefore, your task is to select any one industry of any developing country. For example, telecom industry of India, garments industry of Sri Lanka. After selecting you have to analyze the potential of that industry and finally, defend your decision. The format of the report is given below. Executive summary 1. Introduction - The selected industry - Write briefly why you have selected this industry and this country - What are the contents of the report 2. PEST analysis 2.1. Political analysis 2.1.1. System of government (democracy/ totalitarianism/ socialism) 2.1.2. Government policies FDI Policy particularly for your sector (percentage of foreign stake allowed, incentives like tax/ licensing fee) Export Policy (this might be needed to analyze whether raw materials can be imported favorably) 2.1.3 Political stability

Therefore, your task is to select any one industry of any developing country. For example, telecom industry of India, garments industry of Sri Lanka. After selecting you have to analyze the potential of that industry and finally, defend your decision.

The format of the report is given below.

Executive summary

- The selected industry- Write briefly why you have selected this industry and this country- What are the contents of the report

2. PEST analysis

2.1. Political analysis

2.1.1. System of government (democracy/ totalitarianism/ socialism)2.1.2. Government policies

FDI Policy particularly for your sector (percentage of foreign stake allowed, incentives like tax/ licensing fee)

Export Policy (this might be needed to analyze whether raw materials can be imported favorably)

2.2. Economic analysis

2.2.1 Economic indicators: GDP growth FDI Inflow and outflow Position of the country in world competitiveness ranking

2.2.2 Purchasing parity: per capita income, living cost2.2.3 Human development

Employment rate Life expectancy rate at birth and other health facilities

2.3. Social/culture analysis

2.3.1. Language

2.4 Technological analysis 2.4.1. Infrastructure (whether the country has appropriate technology and human

resource needed for the development of your selected industry)

3 Analysis of national competitiveness using Porter’s model

3.1. Factors endowment – cost of production factors (land, labor, power, transportation, natural resources or raw materials)

3.2. Demand condition – Market size, sophisticacy of the consumers 3.3. Related and supporting industries – number of suppliers, suppliers’ bargaining power, in there any problem of backward linkage3.4. Firm strategy, structure and rivalry – competition among the competitors.

4. SWOT Analysis: (make a table)

S = Strength of your industry (based on Porter’s model)

W = Weakness of your industry (based on Porter’s model)

O = Opportunity created by the environment (based on PEST analysis)

T = Threat created by the environment (based on PEST analysis)

5. Decision

5.1. Appropriate entry mode – Greenfield/ acquisition/ joint venture and defend why. 6. Recommendation: what are things you need to change or be careful in future.

7. Conclusion: summarize your report and write briefly why your decision is the best. Important notes:

Word limit: 2500 Headings and subheading should be in following format
