Rev. Bobby Morrow Pastor

[email protected]

I am so excited to be writing this Messenger article. It means that enough things are beginning to happen

again around Pritchard that we need to tell you about them. A great deal of work has been going on while we have

been quarantined and now you are going to get to see the results of that work. You will find in the body of this

Messenger several new and exciting proposals for the Fall. The Covid-19 scare forced us to do some things

differently. Several of our committees have made some changes in programing based on what we have

experienced. We are not back to normal yet, and there will be a new normal when we are. We are hopeful that

what we are proposing is going to increase our participation here at Pritchard and allow us to reach many new

people in our community.

You have all been hearing about Overflow, our Saturday evening worship that begins in September. Many of

you have committed to serve on our Legacy Teams. They are already at work getting ready to minister to those

who come. The gym has undergone a transformation that is preparing it to act as our Overflow Worship Center.

You are going to be so excited when you see those results.

New and exciting programing is being introduced for Pritchard Kids and Pritchard Youth. Sherry and Brack have

been working hard to develop the kind of programming that will encourage our children and youth and motivate

them to invite their friends to come. Will it be different than we have done before? Yes, it will. Will it be at different

times than we have experienced it before? Yes, it will. Will it encourage a new level of enthusiasm from participants

and leaders? YES, IT WILL.

You will also see that we have new programming for adults. Our midweek Bible Study and Prayer Time is

undergoing a transformation. The Christian Education Committee has done a marvelous job of creating

something that fits the population who have faithfully attended Wednesday nights. It is another effort to grow our

participation and meet all ages of Pritchard’s discipleship needs. We will not be approaching the Fall believing we

will be experiencing the same old, same old! I believe you are going to enthusiastically embrace the “NEW” coming

your way.

I don’t want to miss the opportunity to tell you, my Pritchard family, how grateful I am for your faithfulness

during this time. You have proven again your love for our Lord and your commitment to the church. Your prayers

and your financial support have sustained us during this time. Under the leadership of our Administrator, Doug

Burkhart, we were able to cut expenses to a bare minimum. Because of your faithful giving, we have been able to

support our ministry partners at 100% of what we had pledged to them. We have continued to be able to prepare

for Overflow and the other new programs coming in the Fall. Even though we were not able to meet in person, we

have still been the church that this community has desperately needed. I have always known you were special! You

have just given me one more confirmation of that fact. I love you and appreciate your dedication to our Lord and

His Church!

In His Love,

Bobby Morrow

Page 3: MESSENGER · 2020. 7. 12. · Rev. Bobby Morrow Pastor bobbymorrow@pritchardmemorial.com I am so excited to be writing this Messenger article. It means that enough things are beginning

church kids whose parents work and cannot get them to

our campus, we are working on a way to pick them up from

school and bring them to campus. (Imagine the old bus

ministries.) We will also be taking them back to Barringer’s

campus. Our goal is for programming to end at 6:00 PM,

allowing families to be able to be home and eat dinner

together, as well as get kids to bed at a decent time. One

other exciting addition is that Melissa Wisor will be working

on a children’s musical during our kids choir time that our

kids can be learning and working on to perform for

Christmas. This will allow us to showcase not only our

Pritchard kids’ talents, but our CDC and Barringer kids, as

well as our Pritchard Fine Arts Academy kids.

I am really excited about the potential that this has to

reach children in our community for Jesus and can’t wait to

see what God will do with this. We do realize that this is a

schedule we may have to move and be flexible with as we

see what not only our CDC and Barringer kids are able to

do but also our Pritchard families.

It’s Time to Think About Barringer

Academic Center! This has been a time of uncertainty about planning. For

the last 6 years, we have always made our plans to assist

the children and staff at the school. At this time, school is

scheduled to open on August 17 for in person instruction.

That would schedule our Blessing of the Backpacks on

Sunday, August 16. We are planning to continue with this

scheduling until we know otherwise.

I have found a source for bulk school supplies that can

be ordered to be shipped to the church. Since we as a

church have enough members who fit in the category who

should avoid much of the shopping, I am suggesting that

each of you who are able to assist with this project to send

your donation to the church and we will make a bulk order.

There would be no shipping charges. Make your checks

payable to PMBC and note that it is for BAC supplies.

This is one of the largest of our mission projects and has

incredibly significant effects on the students and staff at

Barringer. I also think that most of us enjoy participating in

the project. Our church has also been very faithful to assist

with the food needs while schools have been cancelled.

If school does open in a conventional way, and if allowed,

we will also need volunteers for the staff. We will make

those plans when we know what will be allowed.

Please pray about being involved in the supplies and

food for Barringer Academic Center. You may call or email

me if you have questions (336‐469‐4673 or

[email protected]).

VBS Thank You!!

Thank you to our team of helpers for making our Vaca-

tion Bible School run so well during this time of COVID-19. I

could not have done this without their amazing help: BIBLE

STUDY: Donna Heiser for all her hard work writing and di-

recting our dramas; Stan Heiser; Virginia Wallace; Allen &

Sandy Childers; Tom & Millie Creech; and Galen & Carolyn

Bolin. This team not only worked on their lines and acted,

but they also became video actors as well. So thank you to

them for their sacrifice of time as they not only rehearsed,

but also came and performed live. CRAFTS/IMAGING:

Melissa Wisor, who not only planned the crafts, but then

videoed her teaching for each day’s crafts for us to have

available for our online VBS families. WORSHIP RALLY

DRAMAS: Bobby Morrow and Garrett Elder. WORSHIP

RALLY: Bethany Nettles, Garrett Elder, Grace Grady. Our

CHILD DEVELOPMENT CENTER: Jennifer Hirst and her great

team of 3’s through Summer Camp teachers: Ms Zarria and

Ms Martha; Ms. Keekee; Mrs. Sarah and Ms. Alex!

Pritchard Kids Wednesday Nights this Summer

We are continuing to have Wednesday night meetups at

6:30 this summer. We are exploring Science, Music, and Art

and enjoying learning some new things.

Pritchard Kids Clubhouse in the Fall

I am so very excited to tell you about our changes for

this Fall! Back on February 2nd

our Pritchard families agreed

we wanted to be intentional in our connection with our

Child Development Center (CDC) families and Barringer

families. We also agreed that our mission is to be more

strategic about inviting and reaching children and their

families for Jesus. God had already laid this on my heart as a

burden to reach these families as well as our community for

Jesus. But as I got to know these sweet kids and their

families, and have gotten into the community, that burden

has only increased. As a result, we put in motion

transforming our format and meeting space to

accommodate the change of programming and to appeal to

these young families. From this we did gain multiple CDC

families and friends of our Pritchard Kids, however we are

still missing kiddos and families due to the scheduled time

we offer for our kids programming. With that said, this Fall

we are going to shift our start time for Pritchard Kids Club-

house. It will begin at 4:00 PM with snack time and we will

start our programming at 4:30. For Barringer kids and our (continued in next column……..)

Rev. Brack Ballard Minister to Youth

and College-Aged Students [email protected]

Pritchard Family,

This season of COVID-19 and "social distancing," has been

very difficult for many. I know it has been for me! May we shift

that focus from "social" distancing to "physical" distancing. Our

mental and emotional health are so important and we need

each other, socially, perhaps now more than ever! My prayer is

that we all find safe ways to remain social during these times. If

you know any youth or college-aged students who are seeking

a community to connect with, please give them my contact

info. I would love to connect with them and introduce them to

our amazing Pritchard Family.*

During the month of June we began our Fun Days weekly on

Tuesdays and they have been a blast! We will continue those

Fun Days through the month of July. We will also host one

outdoor family event, which will be a movie night in the

Pritchard Courtyard. Be on the lookout for the movie TBA!

Our Pritchard college-aged ministry has also kicked off and I

am happy to report that we have been meeting on Zoom for

Bible study and will be meeting face-to-face (physically dis-

tanced) during the summer months on a bi-weekly basis. I am

the facilitator and the college students are building this ministry

from the ground up. Our group of students have been meeting

regularly since April and have a vision board that we have used

to collaborate and share our ideas for this new ministry focus.

They have chosen the name, "Agape", and their mission is: To

connect college-aged students (18-24) to Jesus, grow together (continued in next column……..)

as a fellowship of believers, and to be the loving presence of

Christ today in their colleges, workplaces, or wherever God

directs! We are excited about all that God has in store.

I pray that each of us can continue encouraging one

another during these times, whether it be via Zoom or other

creative ways of physically distancing, "Not neglecting to

meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one

another, and all the more..." (Hebrews 10:25)

During our events for Pritchard youth and college-aged

students, we will practice the guidelines set forth by the

health department and our church, but we do remind each

participant that they participate at their own risk. Waivers

are provided to each participant prior to participation in our

summer events. Thank you for your understanding!

Blessings,

Rev. Brack Ballard

Staff Anniversaries Congratulations to Katrina Gore, Pritchard’s Office

Assistant and Media Center Director, who celebrated her 1

year anniversary back on May 13, 2020.

Congratulations to Bobby Morrow, our Pastor, who is

celebrating his 15 year anniversary on staff. He began

ministering to the Pritchard family on July 5, 2005.

Congratulations to Cindy Gamwell, our Accounting Clerk,

who is also celebrating 1 year at Pritchard. She came aboard

July 29, 2019.

Bobby, Katrina and Cindy - we love you and thank you for

all you do!

REFUEL at Pritchard:

Instead of Wednesday night dinners and Bible Study/

Prayer Time, we will now have “Refuel at Pritchard”

Thursdays at 12:00 PM. A $5.00 lunch will be served, and a

speaker from the community will speak or a Bible Study from

a Pritchard Ministerial Staff member will be led. This will be a

great opportunity for professionals to also join us on their

lunch hour! At 1:00 PM we will then move into Prayer

Meeting for those who can stay and have an intentional time

of prayer.

**This will begin Thursday, September 3, 2020 in our

Fellowship Hall and take the place of Wednesday night

dinner & Pritchard Connect**

PRITCHARD LIFE GROUPS:

Starting Fall 2020, there will be a sign-up form to join a

life group! Life groups will be made up of small groups of

just men, just women, co-ed life groups, and life-groups for

special interest (parenting, singles, retirees) and more!

Attendees of Overflow Saturday night service and Sunday

morning worship service will fill out these forms and then life

groups will be created! Casey Elias will be serving as our “Life

Group Coordinator” and we may ask YOU if you could host a

life group in your zip code or lead a life group in your home

or the local restaurant!

We are so excited about these new opportunities for

Spiritual Development at Pritchard and thankful Bobby

cast the vision at the beginning of the year for our theme

“NEW” in 2020! This “NEW THING” will spring forth under the

Holy Spirit’s leading!

On the journey TOGETHER, Kristen Tucker

PS: Please check out Sherry and Brack’s sections for their

“NEW” programming and events to come!

To My Sweet Pritchard Family:

I have to say to each of you: “I AM SO PROUD OF YOU!”

March – June this year has not been easy. We have missed

you all in worship, face-to-face Bible study and meetings.

However, YOU embraced technology, Zoom and Livestream,

and thanks to you we were able to still “meet” online.

THANK YOU for learning all these new tools and allowing

creativity.

NEW WAYS OF DOING SPIRITUAL DISCIPLESHIP AND

FORMATION AT PRITCHARD

During the Christian Education committee Zoom meet-

ings, we began to discuss Pritchard’s Vision

(https://pritchardchurch.com/about/) and how Spiritual

Development connects to our mission. We also read a

Spiritual Formation section of Andy Stanley’s book “Deep

and Wide: Creating Churches Unchurched People Love to

Attend.” In his notes, Stanley discusses there are FIVE

catalysts to Spiritual Formation in the Body of Christ:

Practical Teaching – Teachings and sermons that lead

students/participants to life application instead of just

Biblical knowledge.

Private Disciplines – Teachings and sermons that

encourage the practice of spiritual disciplines: Reading God’s

Word, prayer, fasting, tithing, resting, etc.

Personal Ministry – To help people learn their spiritual

gifts and apply them in service and ministry.

Providential Relationships – To help people learn from the

good and the bad relationships in our lives. Some

relationships are for a season, while others are lifelong.

There will be relationships in our lives that help in areas of

wisdom, growth, and support as they journey life together.

Pivotal Circumstances – The same for relationships is true

for life circumstances. There are exciting times in our lives

that will make an impact: graduations, new jobs, marriage,

having children/grandchildren, retirement, etc. There are

also times in life that make a different kind of impact: loss of

job, loss of a family member or friend, tragic experience, etc.

All FIVE of these examples can help BUILD our faith as we

grow as Disciples of Christ, and with that in mind, the

Christian Education Committee has planned fervently for Fall

2020 to LIVE IN THE MISSION of our church’s vision

statement “NURTURE”: Make Disciples through

transformative studies and spiritual formation. To do this we

have some NEW and EXCITING programs to announce:

CELEBRATE AMERICA

Let’s celebrate our country this month. We are lucky to live in the land of the free and the home

of the brave!

Charles Kuralt’s America by Charles Kuralt

Although he retired from CBS News in 1994, Kuralt has not retired from his wanderings. This book is filled with the sto-

ries of people and their experiences, rich in the spirit and flavor of America. The accounts in his latest book take readers to

twelve of the most beautiful places in America. Charleston, New Orleans, and Ketchikan…just to name a few. (973.92)

Guide to the Blue Ridge Parkway by Victoria Logue

The Blue Ridge Parkway is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country. While not officially a national

park, it is part of the National Park System. Every year, since 1946, the Parkway has been the most visited part of the NPS.

The Parkway travels for 469 Miles from The Shenandoah National Park in Virginia to the Cherokee Indian Reservation in

NC. The Parkway travels along some of the highest ridges and mountains in North Carolina and is known for its incredible

scenic views and overlooks. The highest point is located near Waynesville, NC at Milepost 431 where the elevation is 6,053

feet. (917.55)

An American Life by Ronald Reagan

Ronald Reagan’s autobiography is a work of major historical importance. Here is the story of his life, in his own words,

both the public and the private. This is an essential volume for anyone interested in the life and leadership of our 40th

President. (B REA)
