Aviation Artwork – Makes a Great Gift

Thank you to Steven F. Greenwald Design, Inc. for providing an art display in our lobby during the past two months. The display included The Martin-Young Aviation Collection created by artists Frank Martin and Judeen Young. These artists combined their techniques to create a hybrid collaboration of abstract paintings and collage techniques. The result is a unique aviation art collection ranging from the evolution of flight and classic military aircraft to today’s latest commercial and general aviation aircraft. The Martin-Young Aviation Collection is quickly becoming well known as the most contemporary and comprehensive aviation art collec-tion in today’s market. Martin-Young and SFGD have completed special projects for many aviation and aero-space corporations.

Steven Greenwald Design, Inc. has been providing art, consulting, and framing services since 1983. Their 6500 square foot Ft. Lauderdale gallery and custom framing studio houses a complete art gallery and a state of the art production facility. For more information, visit www.theartofaircraft.com

Mr. and Mrs. Eloy Biesuz and their son, Pedro, stopped to look at the artwork in the lobby and purchased two pieces to take home to Brazil on their Lear 45. “We liked the subject matter and the aircraft featured in the artwork and thought they would make a great addition to our office. We get nice comments about the uniqueness and the bright colors,” said Mr. Biesuz.

Banyan Pilot Shop is proud to offer this amazing artwork and can also assist with customized orders that feature your aircraft, sizes that fit your requirements, beautiful framing options and worldwide shipping. Visit our Pilot Shop, shop on-line at BanyanPilotShop.com/art, or contact Donald Greene at 888.280.9272 or 954.493.5441, [email protected] for more information.

Happy HolidaysHappy Holidays

T’was Christmas Time at Banyan

T’was the night before Christmas when the pace had slowed down,Even at Banyan, there were few people around. The planes were all chocked with the pilots inside, In hopes that their passengers soon would arrive.

When out on the ramp, there arose such a clatter,The girls sprang from the desk to see what’s ‘a matter. Away to the window Lisa flew like a flash, Krista soon followed and Bobby did dash,

The South Florida night was brilliant and bright, it seemed Santa had arrived on a flight.Everyone wondered, “What is he doing here?”And Lynn smiled and said, “He needs work on his Lear!”

More rapid than eagles, the workers they came,Dave whistled and shouted and called them by name. “Now Murray, now Terry, now Les, now Dan, on Curtis, on Gustavo, on Anthony, on Rob,To the top of the tail, to all of the seams,

May all your dreams take flight this Holiday Season

May all your dreams take flight this Holiday Season

We must help Santa fulfill all those dreams!”

The crew was prepared to work through the night,Anything to make Santa ready for flight.

At the Pilot Shop, Santa was welcomed with cheer,As he bought more gifts for the upcoming year.

The airplane now ready, the work all done, as Santa sees Mike O’Keeffe strolling along.“Now Santa, you know with more gifts to deliver, you’ll need to fly something bigger.” Off Mike ran to whip up his plan, soon, a Challenger he did land.Santa settled his bill, then thanked our team for all the good will.As he climbed in the cockpit and set the power to low,We heard him exclaim as he flew out of sight,

“No wonder Banyan’s the #1 FBO!”“Merry Christmas to all and to all a good flight.” 7

Aircraft Sales Market Update

Notice that the new construction is already taller than the existing tower. This photo also shows the framing for the Base Building.

Rendering of what the completed tower will look like.

FXE Control Tower Climbs SkywardThe construction of the new FXE Control Tower is well underway. This project consists of an 84’ (height to cab floor) Airport Traffic Control Tower and a single-story, precast concrete, 7,200 square foot Administrative Base Building and all associated work. The cab which sits on top of the tower will add an additional 42’ to the height of the tower.

It’s hard to believe that 5-years have passed since the initial crash of the pre-

owned aircraft market. It was Oc-tober 2007; at the National Business Aircraft As-

sociation (NBAA) conference in Orlando, Florida that many in our industry finally acknowledged we have a big problem. In the course of 90-days pre-owned aircraft values were falling at a pace beyond imagination and most of the aircraft specific lenders just stopped writing loans on aircraft purchases. Lenders were unable to ascer-tain where residual values would level and therefore just pulled back. When the dust finally settled, used aircraft values had fallen anywhere from 40%-60% depending on the aircraft make & model. By 2008, we saw the largest quantity of used aircraft on the market than any other time in history. It was a buyer’s market like no other, if you were a cash buyer! Now after 5-years of recovery the pre-owned aircraft market looks very different in all but a few segments.

Piston Single & TwinThis market surprisingly has seen steady sales especially in the higher-end models. This is not to suggest that the piston market is brisk, but it is steady. Nice, clean, well maintained aircraft with upgraded avionics have proven popular if the sellers are realistic in their price expectations.

TurbopropsThe turboprop market has shown incredible stability. I remember 5-years ago when many predicted the death of the turboprop as a re-sult of all the new VLJ’s that were being introduced. “Who would

want a turboprop when you could fly a jet,” was the mantra of the era. That clearly hasn’t been the case, turboprop values have held strong in some markets and the quantity of available aircraft has shrunk consid-erably in most current production turboprop models. Last December, 1313 turboprops were being actively advertised, today there are 1180. That’s an appreciable reduction.

JetsThis market segment has been just plain unpredictable. There are cer-tain models of light/medium weight jets that have shown some strength and others that still show a steady decline (think Beechjet). Large cabin aircraft such as Gulfstream G550, Global Express and certain Falcons are seeing activity largely due to the incredible appetite of the Chinese market. Overall, the quantity of available inventory is either down or remains the same from the beginning of the year which in itself is an improvement. One thing is for certain, 2013 promises to be an interesting year for pri-vate aircraft operators big and small. Bonus depreciation is soon to be extinct and the hopes of an aviation friendly elected administration have vanished. Our hope is that opportunist who have sat on the sidelines this past year waiting to see any sign of improvement will now dive head-first into using private aircraft to grow and excel in the new year!!Banyan Aircraft Sales specializes in aircraft selection, valuation, nego-tiation, inspection and management of turbine powered aircraft. Avionics Update

The avionics team has been busy working on a variety of aircraft, here’s a few of their latest projects:

Falcon 900EX – The team installed an Aircell High Speed Data (HSD) system on a Falcon 900 EX and also on a Challenger 604. This installation enables passengers the use of internet, e-mail and other connectivity services while on board the aircraft.Boeing 727 – Upgrade is for Mode “S” Enhanced Surveillance which is required in European airspace. The work was performed on location in Jacksonville when the aircraft was down for a main-tenance inspection. Eurocopter 120 – The team installed a Traffic Advisory Sys-tem (TAS) which allows the helicopter to see other traffic in the area to avoid a collision. The work was performed at our partner’s facility, Edwards Rotorcraft Solutions (ERS).

“It’s not everyday that a Chairman & CEO, the President and two Vice Presidents of two of the world’s leading companies in Global Mobile Satellite Communications take the time to visit your facility,” states Bri-an Wilson, Director of Avionics at Banyan Air Service, “Inmarsat and Satcom Direct have offices around the world and are internationally rec-ognized by everyone within the communications industry; we felt very privileged to have these distinguished guests choose Banyan to pay a visit and tour our beautiful facility.” Banyan continues to be one of the leading companies in the South East United States when it comes to Connectivity and High Speed Data for corporate aircraft. Banyan Avionics has provided installations on an ar-ray of aircraft ranging from Citations, King Air and Challenger through the Boeing line of 727/737/747/757. Banyan recently certified the Hon-eywell Aspire product for the Gulfstream 2/ 3/ 4/ 4SP providing Wi-Fi, Internet and email access substantiated with an FAA approved Supple-ment Type Certificate (STC). Our experience and knowledge is second to none and we can provide different options and price points for “any” type of aircraft. Just call today and ask the experts!

When you cannot see, you cannot fly and that’s exactly the reason EVAS is important to you. In the event of a smoke-related emergency, EVAS displaces the smoke and enables you to see instruments, your flight path, approach plates, and list of emergency procedures, so you can land the aircraft safely.EVAS is an important safety product designed for use in a serious smoke emergency situation. This FAA tested and certified the system and cock-pit smoke displacement systems have been endorsed by over 50 airlines, the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA) and the Coalition of Airline Pi-lots Association (CAPA) as “standard” equipment. EVAS is a compact, self-contained system measuring 3” X 8.5” X 10” and weighing approximately 6 pounds, about the size of a flight manual and costs around $35,000. Downtime to install this system is minimal and can be done in just a few hours at Banyan. EVAS can also be pur-

For the 3rd time this year, President Don Campion and his wife Sueanne returned to Egbe with a team to work on a humanitarian project where they are revitalizing a rural hospital in Nigeria. Each time Don goes he takes a Banyan teammate, a friend or colleague from the aviation indus-try and medical and construction personal to introduce them to Africa and the opportunity of bringing Hope and Healing to thousands for years to come when the hospital is complete. The local community is very involved as we remove and construct buildings, build a water reser-voir and filtration system, manufacture cement blocks and rewire the compound. The project is huge but the financial support and donations of labor has been even bigger. Through partnership with SIM, Samaritan’s Purse and World Medical Missions over 125 volunteers have come to assist over the past 12 months. It is currently in use in corporate and transport aircraft around the world; including: Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Cessna, Dassault, Embraer, Gulfstream, Hawker Beech, and Learjet.Banyan is an EVAS sales and service center for the southeast United States. In addition, an EVAS smoke simulator will be available in our FBO lobby for demonstration purposes. “All pilots should see a demon-stration of this safety equipment and once installed the crew and passen-gers will feel much safer knowing their aircraft is outfitted with EVAS,” say Alvie Barron, Banyan’s director of technical sales. For more information or to schedule a demonstration, contact Alvie Barron, 954.492.3568, [email protected]
