Merry Christ -Mass! Yes, that is what the word means! We joyfully celebrate these Masses as we remember the birth of the One who loved us and wanted to come to earth to save us and make our love possible. He changed the world and changed our lives forever. May the Lord Jesus Christ walk with you in this season and in the new year, and may you walk with Him.

The Feast of the Holy Family is usually celebrated on the Sunday between Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. But this year, because Christmas falls on Sunday and New Year’s Day on the following Sunday, we will celebrate the Holy Family on this coming Friday, December 30. Masses are at 8:30 am in English and 6:30 pm in Spanish; both are in the Chapel. It is not a holyday of obligation.

Next Sunday while the world celebrates New Year’s Day, we don’t, because we are celebrating one of the most ancient feasts of the Church—the Solemnity of Mary, the Mother of God. Please check the special schedule printed in this bulletin since Mass times will be a little different from ordinary Sundays.

Some of you will be on vacation between Christmas and New Year’s Day. I love this week because most of the first readings are from John’s First Letter where he writes so tenderly about love. Also, we have very touching feasts, like Dec. 26 when we celebrate the martyrdom of St. Stephen, one of the first deacons and clearly the very first martyr. On Dec. 27 it’s the Feast of St. John who wrote a Gospel and 3 letters in which he reflects so beautifully on love. Dec. 28 is a very sad feast, the martyrdom of the Holy Innocents, the little boys under 2 years old, because Herod wanted to kill any who might be the new-born king Jesus; on this day we pray earnestly for all the innocent babies who have been aborted, whose parents decided to kill them. We weep for them, and we pray for the end of abortion. Dec. 30 is the celebration of the Holy Family, and we pray for all Catholic families, that they may be positive fonts of life that is protected and treasured and positive fonts of love that is shared by all the members of a holy and wholesome family.

¡Feliz Navidad!, En inglés se dice “Merry Christ-Mass”, que quiere decir en español “Feliz Misa de Cristo”. Celebramos alegremente estas Misas mientras recordamos el nacimiento de Aquél que nos amó y quiso venir a la tierra para salvarnos y hacer posible nuestro amor. Él cambió el mundo y cambió nuestras vidas para siempre. Permitan que el Señor Jesucristo camine con ustedes en este tiempo y en el año nuevo, y no se alejen de Él.

La fiesta de la Sagrada Familia se celebra generalmente el domingo entre el día de Navidad y el día de Año Nuevo. Pero este año, ya que la Navidad cae el domingo y el día de Año Nuevo el domingo siguiente, celebraremos la Sagrada Familia el próximo viernes 30 de diciembre. Los horarios de las Misas son a las 8:30 am en inglés y a las 6:30 pm en español; ambas serán en la Capilla. No es una fiesta de obligación.

El próximo domingo, mientras el mundo celebra el Día de Año Nuevo, nosotros no lo hacemos, porque estamos celebrando una de las fiestas más antiguas de la Iglesia, la Solemnidad de María, la Madre de Dios. Por favor, vean el horario especial de Misas que está impreso en este boletín, ya que los horarios de Misa serán un poco diferentes de los domingos ordinarios.

Algunos de ustedes estarán de vacaciones entre Navidad y Año Nuevo. Me encanta esta semana porque la mayoría de las primeras lecturas son de la Primera Carta de Juan donde él escribe tan tiernamente sobre el amor. Además, tenemos celebraciones muy conmovedoras, como el 26 de diciembre cuando celebramos el martirio de San Esteban, uno de los primeros diáconos y claramente el primer mártir. El 27 de diciembre es la fiesta de San Juan quien escribió un Evangelio y tres cartas en las que refleja tan bellamente el amor. El 28 de diciembre es una fiesta muy triste, el martirio de los Santos Inocentes, los niños menores de 2 años, porque Herodes quería matar a cualquiera que pudiera ser el recién nacido rey Jesús; en este día oramos fervientemente por todos los bebés inocentes que han sido abortados, cuyos padres decidieron matarlos. Lloramos por ellos, y oramos por el fin del aborto. El 30 de diciembre es la celebración de la Sagrada Familia, y rezamos por todas las familias católicas, para que sean fuentes positivas de vida protegida y atesorada y que se comparta el amor entre todos los miembros de una familia santa y sana.

As you begin year end tax planning for your family or business, don’t forget that donations to St. Francis qualify as a tax deductible charitable contribution.

Most parishioners give a cash gift, but a gift of stocks or bonds is another way to benefit St. Francis and gain a tax advantage. All cash or other asset contributions must be received or

postmarked by December 31 to receive contribution credit for 2016. Any gift received or postmarked on or after January 1 will be credited to 2017.

Al terminar el año y al iniciar con la planificación de la declaración de impuestos (Tax Income) para su familia o negocio, no olvide que las donaciones a San Francisco califican como una contribución caritativa deducible de impuestos. La mayoría de los feligreses dan donaciones en efectivo, pero el donar acciones o bonos es otra manera de beneficiar a San Francisco y obtener una ventaja fiscal. Todas las donaciones en efectivo o donaciones de activos deben ser recibidas o selladas por correo antes del 31 de diciembre para que puedan contar como donaciones del año 2016. Cualquier donación recibida o sellada a partir del 1 de enero será

acreditada a sus donaciones del 2017.
