From the Principal….Merriwa ESC… Teacher / Parent Meetings

Along with the Primary School, the ESC will be closing early on Tuesday 25 March for Parent / Teacher meetings to accommodate the parents who have

not yet had the opportunity to meet with teachers. Please make this meeting a priority as it is our genuine intention to work in partnership with you

towards better outcomes for your child. To those parents who have already met with the teacher, thank you. I hope you found the experience to be

worthwhile.

We ask that students be collected from class at 11.30am next Tuesday. If you are unable to collect your child at 11.30am please see the teacher to make

arrangements for supervision.

Student Banking - Tuesday mornings

An information package to learn more about school banking went home recently for your consideration to set up an account for your child. The

Commonwealth Bank will provide the ESC with a financial bonus for every child who opens an account. This is an easy fundraising initiative for the school

while your child learns valuable skills for saving money towards their personal goals.

Thank you, again to Leah Frankis and Ebony Muscara who coordinate the student banking initiative.

THANK YOU Good Guys

Recently the ESC was gifted a washing machine from Denley at the Good Guys, Clarkson to replace an old machine which has become inefficient. Merriwa

ESC is extremely grateful for this donation which will be very useful in assisting staff when caring for students with high support needs.

Year 6 and 7 Day Camp

It is really wonderful to see so many of our students accepting the invitation to attend the 3 day activity camp being organised by the Primary School. I

extend my sincere thanks to Ms MacFarlane and Mr Forde, and PS teachers Mrs McKenzie, Mrs Ebert and Ms Winter for ensuring that our students will

be given every opportunity to participate to the best of their ability. Please ensure all relevant forms are completed and returned to school by Tuesday

April 1. If parents are experiencing difficulty with the cost of this camp please do not hesitate to contact the office to make alternative arrangements.

Absences

As the term reaches the final weeks it is so important to monitor the health and wellbeing of students and staff. Many people are feeling the stress of a

long hot summer and some children are coming to school unwell. Sick people affect everyone as we grow tired and our energy levels start to wane, we

become more susceptible to illness. If your child is unwell they are better supported with bed rest.

Stop Work Meeting - Union

At this point in time I do not have confirmed numbers of staff who may choose to stop work in order to support their union in expressing their

disappointment over education cuts. As the date draws near, you will be informed as to whether our centre will be affected.

It is very important that the school is contacted if your child is away. A phone call or a note in the communication book allows us to comply with the

Department requirements.

Congratulations to the students who were awarded certificates at the assembly .

Parents are reminded not to use the staff car park at the northern side of the school. The added congestion this creates is a potential hazard to other children arriving and leaving the school grounds. A suggestion from the Pedestrian Council Australia is for parents to park a short distance from the school and then walk with their children to the school gates. This not only gives your children some exercise, but gives you a chance to have a chat about the school day and also reduces traffic congestion. Disabled parking bays : These are reserved for parents with children who have mobility problems. Thank you for your support.

Student Update Forms and Policies

Permission Forms have gone home. Please

update relevant information on the forms

and return to the office as soon as possible.

Thank you to Merriwa parents and carers who contributed to the Woolworths Earn & Learn Program. From the stickers collected last year, we were able to exchange them for a large variety of instruments for the students to enjoy. The music room is also looking to collect large clean 25 litre buckets to use as drums. These would be greatly appreciated if anyone has any to spare. Thank you once again for your support. Rose Prior Music Teacher

Being involved in leadership our school has an important

responsibility and a fantastic opportunity to make an

impact on others. Our year six and seven leaders

attended the Grip Student Conference at the Perth

Convention Centre on Tuesday 11th March. We travelled

there by train and were joined by 1700 other students

from schools around WA.

Our student leaders conducted themselves beautifully,

becoming involved in all the opportunities presented on

the day, gaining skills and knowledge which will enable

them to become “Strawberry Leaders”. They are an

absolute credit to our school community

Look at us big year 1s in Room 9! After the first

6 weeks of the year we are settling into our new

routine of not having a toilet in the classroom,

playing in the junior playground and collecting our

own food from the canteen. We are all working

hard to read, write and count this term, but most

importantly we are enjoying making musical

instruments that we designed ourselves. We are

looking forward to playing them at the end of the

term.
