Anne B. Kerr, Ph.D.College President

Since her appointment as Florida Southern College’s seventeenth president in 2004, Dr. Anne Kerr’s visionary leadership has enhanced the student experience on campus and increased the college’s national prominence. Under her direction, the institution has renewed its commitment to educate the whole

person—academically, socially, spiritually and physically—in order to insure that students leave prepared to make a positive and consequential impact on our world.

Early in her tenure, Dr. Kerr oversaw implementation of a comprehensive strategic plan for the College that was designed to enrich all facets of our student-centered culture. Opportunities for active learning and leadership were increased; innovative, engaged, and personalized instruction were prioritized; and the College’s scholar-athlete program became a national model for NCAA Division II athletic programs.

Recent college improvements include ongoing restoration projects on the Frank Lloyd Wright campus and the construction of a Frank Lloyd Wright Usonian House for use as a Tourism and Education Center, which will be the first Wright design built since 1966. Other new construction includes the two-building Barnett Residential Complex and the

Christoverson Humanities Building (all three designed by world-renowned architect Robert A.M. Stern), the McKay Archives Center, the Blanton Nursing Building, the Rinker Technology Center, and TûTû’s Café (located in the Roux Library). Further improvements include the complete renovation of the student dining facility (Wynee’s Bistro), residence hall and campus-wide technology upgrades, and a campus beautification project featuring dozens of interconnected plazas and gardens.

Dr. Kerr graduated from Mercer University and received her M.S. and Ph.D. from Florida State University. Prior to assuming the Presidency at Florida Southern, she served as Vice President for Advancement both at the University of Richmond and at Rollins College. She has held numerous volunteer leadership roles, and currently serves on the boards of SunTrust Bank, All Saints’ Academy, EarthLinked Technologies, Inc., the Polk Museum of Art, and the Florida Chamber of Commerce. She recently completed a two-year term as president of the Sunshine State Athletic Conference.

Dr. Kerr and her husband, Roy, have a seventeen-year-old son, Ed, who plays baseball for All Saints’ Academy. Dr. Roy Kerr is a retired professor of Spanish and a baseball historian, whose recent publications include The Loving of the Game: a Baseball Memoir (2007); Sliding Billy Hamilton: the Life and Times of Baseball’s First Great Leadoff Man (2010), and Roger Connor: Home Run King of Nineteenth-Century Baseball (2011).

Pete MeyerAthletic Director

Now in his fourth year (2011-12) as Director of Athletics at Florida Southern College, Pete Meyer saw Moccasin teams enjoy another successful year in 2010-11. The women’s golf team finished third at the NCAA Division II Championship; the swimming team claimed four individual event NCAA championships (Mary O’Sullivan – 200-yard freestyle and 200-yard backstroke, Jeb Halfacre – 200-yard backstroke, and the men’s 400-yard medley relay team); and twelve of FSC’s programs participated in NCAA postseason competition. FSC won Sunshine State Conference titles in men’s cross country (14th straight) and women’s basketball (regular season and SSC tournament), won the SSC women’s Mayors’ Cup, and tied for second in the men’s Mayors’ Cup.

That success combined to give the Moccasins a 19th-place finish, tops among SSC schools, in the 2010-11 Learfield Sports/NACDA Cup standings and their 10th top-25 finish in the program's history.

Meyer also returned to the coaching ranks in 2010-11, taking command of the baseball program 12 games into the season and guiding the Moccasins to a final season record of 32-15.

In 2009-10, FSC won its 12th NCAA men’s golf title and 27th

national title overall and produced its first national champion in swimming (Jeb Halfacre – 200-yard backstroke). Eleven programs were represented in NCAA postseason competition, with men’s golf, basketball and cross country teams capturing SSC titles.

In Meyer's first year as AD (2008-09), Moccasin teams produced three SSC championships (men's cross country, men's basketball, softball) and a fifth-place national finish in women's golf. Eleven FSC teams went to NCAA postseason competition.

Named to the AD position February 21, 2008, he officially assumed his duties July 1, 2008, when Lois Webb retired. In the fall of 2008, Meyer was given the additional title of Dean of Wellness, putting the operation of the Hollis Wellness Center, as well as the water ski program and campus intramurals under his direction. Meyer, who has been at Florida Southern since 1998, also served as assistant athletics director for Webb from February of 2006 until his AD appointment.

In his previous stint as baseball coach (2002-08), Meyer spent six full seasons as head coach, guiding the Moccasins to their ninth NCAA Division II national title in 2005 with a 51-11 record. His head coaching record at Florida Southern is 282-121-1, while his overall record as a head coach is 321-151-1. Thirty-eight Moccasin baseball players have been drafted or signed professional contracts during Meyer's tenure as head coach.

Before officially assuming the reigns of head baseball coach in June of 2002, Meyer had served for over three years as Florida Southern's top assistant coach under Chuck Anderson. He also was the program's recruiting coordinator.

Prior to joining the FSC coaching staff, Meyer spent five seasons at Valdosta State, working under legendary head coach Tommy Thomas. Before his stint at Valdosta State, Meyer was head baseball coach at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, where he coordinated the start of the school's Division III program in 1991. His Oglethorpe teams won Eastern Division titles in the SCAC in each of his two seasons (1992-93).

He served as a graduate assistant at Valdosta State from 1988-90, while earning his M. Ed. in physical education. A four-year baseball letterman at the College of Wooster in Ohio, Meyer graduated in 1987 with a B.A. in speech communication.

Meyer is married to the former Julie Newnum. The couple has three children - 23-year old Ross, 21-year-old Mitchell, who is enrolled at FSC, and 20-year old Megan, who attends Trinity University in Texas.

2011 MEN’S SOCCER PREVIEWOdd as it may sound, Florida Southern’s remarkable turn-

around season in 2010 may have begun with two losses at the end of 2009. Nearing the end of a 1-win campaign, a Moccasin team with 20 freshmen and sophomores realized just how good they could be by nearly defeating two top-20 teams. That spark was enough to start a fire that carried over into 2010, where it erupted with four straight wins to start the year, and later, a school-record three wins over ranked opponents, including national runner-up Rollins. The Mocs were also in the running for the NCAA Tournament themselves right up until the final week of the season, and their 9-5-1 record was the team’s best since 2001. The Moccasins probably won’t sneak up on anyone this year, but nine returning starters ensure they’ll be ready for whatever the rest of the Sunshine State Conference has in store for them. Only two players who had points for the league’s top offense in 2010 won’t be back in 2011, and other than goalkeeper Johan Jonsson, the entire defense returns intact. Yet even with all of the veterans on the roster, head coach H ugh Seyfarth believes many of this year’s newcomers will end up seeing significant playing time. That’s an even better sign for a developing program that’s ready to go beyond the steps it took last year and break into the top of the SSC standings. Getting there won’t be easy. The SSC is loaded with quality programs, with six different teams making an appearance in the NSCAA Top 25 last year, and three starting there this year. That’s nothing different from what Florida Southern is used to facing, though, and the Mocs will tackle that schedule with a roster that includes two fifth-year seniors, six regular seniors, and a fourth-year junior. There isn’t much that group hasn’t seen. Leading the way are two returning all-conference players, senior midfielder Z ach H ofstetter and junior defender Ashley H olmes. With Hofstetter earning a medical redshirt in 2008, and Holmes doing the same in 2009, last year marked the first time both players were on the field at the same time. The result was added strength up the middle, and they’ll once again provide the backbone of the Moccasin lineup. Hofstetter led Florida Southern in scoring last year with 28 points, doing it in equal parts. He tied for the team lead with nine goals, and his 10 assists were tops in the SSC. Averaged out over 15 games, Hofstetter ranked second in the nation in

assists per game, and therein lies the dilemma for an opposing defense. He’s a fearless shooter who is capable of scoring from anywhere, but equally adept at setting up a scoring chance for someone else. While Hofstetter put up striking numbers on offense, Holmes was the team MVP, and watching the way he played on defense, it was easy to see why. With Holmes back in the lineup after sitting out a season, the team goals against average dropped by more than two goals per game from 2009, and the shots allowed fell by more than five per game. He made plays all over the field and provided a stabilizing influence for the

rest of the back line. When the season ended, Holmes was voted to the

All-South Region Team, the first Moccasin to earn that honor in

five years. Holmes may have garnered the accolades, but he had plenty of help. Much of it came from J .D.

Ruiz , who was the lone holdover from the regular

2009 defensive line. The Moccasins are counting on the

senior to push his game to an even higher level this year, and

continue to make the type of game-changing plays he made in several spots last year. Ryan Arndt is another senior

defender returning for the Mocs after he started 13 games last year. With the ability to play either outside or in the center, Arndt gives the coaching staff several options, and his improved play in 2010 was one of the reasons the back line controlled so many games. Sophomore Ricky Marton was another reason, after moving into the starting lineup full-time in late September. He was in the thick of so many tense games for Florida Southern, and responded so well in those situations, it was easy to forget he was a rookie. The Moccasins also have the luxury of a Sebastian Bergh on the roster, yet another senior who’s seen plenty of playing time throughout his career. Though he was used strictly as a reserve in 2010, Bergh is a former starter in the middle who can step in at a moment’s notice. Logan Albritton spent most of last year as a reserve too, but the senior midfielder has made a big impact on defense this August, and could see time in the back as well. He already came up with a pair of clutch defensive outings off the bench last year in conference wins over Barry and Lynn. Even with the experience the Mocs have on defense, Seyfarth said it’s possible one of the three new freshmen could work their way into the lineup too. Petter Allansson joined the team from the Swedish youth system and has already shown he’s capable of handling the job at Florida Southern. Local product Clay Clingerman from Auburndale is challenging for a position too after helping two different Florida high schools win

district titles in his prep career. J ames Gibson, a 2-time All-State selection at Bishop Verot High School in Cape Coral, was a part of four district championship teams, and has made his mark in the preseason too. Whoever plays on the back line this year will have a new goalkeeper behind them. Jonsson started all 15 games in 2010, but his graduation leaves fifth-year senior Charlie Craig, junior college transfer Andres Guz man, and freshman Brent Theriault in a battle for the starting job. Craig has the experience of being Jonsson’s backup for three years, and has seen extensive playing time in the spring. Guzman, however, has experience too, with his coming at Mississippi Gulf Coast CC where he had a 1.06 goals against average last year as a freshman. Theriault, meanwhile, hopes to capitalize on the athleticism that made him a 4-sport athlete in high school while playing for one of the state’s top club teams. Up front, the Moccasins lost Academic All-American Givi Kokaia, and his nine goals and nine assists, to graduation; but they return sophomore V iktor Bakkioui, who had seven goals and five assists in his debut season. His point total was good for 10th in the SSC, and the Mocs will be looking for a repeat performance in 2011. Kokaia’s graduation also opens the door for an increased workload for junior J ovaughn H oward. He’s scored five goals over the last two seasons and flashed the type of ability the Mocs will need to see more of in 2011.

Junior Brad H unt will see time at both forward and midfield, and had a break-out season in 2010

when he scored three goals and had seven assists. Where

he plays may depend on the game situation at the

time. Like Howard, he has big-play ability, and it was Hunt’s passing that set up

game-winning goals in wins over top-20 teams Rollins and Barry.

Freshman Brandon Massie provides support to the returning forwards. He’s an intriguing prospect

who played club soccer in Utah before attending high

school in Germany and Japan as part of a military family.

Florida Southern has a deep group of midfielders that includes eight returning lettermen if Hunt is counted among that number. Only part-time starter and key reserve Jared Bellingar was lost to graduation, but a collection of very talented freshmen are ready to step in to ensure there’s no drop-off. Hofstetter grabbed the headlines last year, but players such as Adam H ansj ons, David Fletcher and Luke J enner all had their time in the spotlight while combining to start 29 games. All three of them bring something different to the table and will play important roles again this year.

Hansjons finished his freshman season with five

assists, and the Mocs are hoping to take more advantage of his play-making skills this year. Fletcher has been a warrior for the last three seasons, and his 35 career starts are the most for any current Moccasin. Jenner didn’t get

a chance to play much early in the year, but won a

starting job in late September and was one of the unsung

heroes of the 3-1 win at Rollins. Senior Sebastian Abrahamsson

and junior J ames May are back for the Mocs as well. Abrahamsson saw limited playing time in

2010, but with 14 career starts as both a midfielder and defender, he isn’t lacking experience. May was one of the team’s most improved players last year before a knee injury ended his season after only five games. While May is now healthy, the Moccasins could lose another of their veterans to injury this year. Aleksander Ratkovic, who started five games in 2009 and seven last year, will likely miss the season, cutting into their depth. The junior has played as both a midfielder and defender, and the Mocs will be eager to get him back once he’s cleared to resume play. The remaining four midfielders are all freshmen, whose playing time depends on how quickly they develop. Regardless, they’ve already been pushing the more established players, a promising sign for the future. Mitchell Francois is one of those freshmen after helping Wakeland High School in Texas win a state championship as a junior, before scoring 10 goals and 30 points as a senior for a team that went 24-2. Ryan Countess is another out-of-state product who helped his high school team, East Limestone, reach the state semifinals in Alabama. On the international front, the Moccasins brought in one midfielder from Sweden (Gustaf Y tterbom) and another from Venezuela (Alex ander Garcia), and both have shown during the preseason they could be dynamic players at Florida Southern for the next four years. Ytterbom was a member of the state team in Sweden and ranked among the top five players in his district. Garcia helped his club team in Caracas win a regional title in 2009. The Moccasins will again be tested by a formidable schedule that features all four of last year’s NCAA South Region qualifiers. West Florida, Barry and 2010 national runner-up Rollins all visit Barnett Field, and Florida Southern will play Tampa on the road. The Mocs went 2-1-1 against those teams in 2010. Overall, they’ll face a total of six teams that won 14 or more games, nine of their 16 opponents won at least 10, and all but three of them were .500 or better.

HEAD MEN’S SOCCER COACH HUGH SEYFARTH This year (2010-11) marks Hugh Seyfarth’s seventh as head men’s soccer coach at Florida Southern

College after he was hired in June of 2005. Seyfarth is only the fourth head coach in the program’s 55-year history, following Jim Bush (1957-80), Sam Snow (1981-92) and Kris Pahl (1993-2004). He came to Florida Southern after a 7-year stint as an assistant coach with both the men’s and women’s teams at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.

Last year marked Florida Southern’s best season under Seyfarth, as the Moccasins finished 9-5-1 overall, and were in contention for a spot in the NCAA Tournament into the final week of the season. Along the way, the Moccasins earned their first national ranking since 1999, were ranked as high as #3 in both the NSCAA and NCAA South Region polls, and put together one of the greatest one-year improvements in the country. They

also led the Sunshine State Conference in scoring for the first time ever (ranking 15th in the nation in goals per game), saw their goals against average drop by more than two goals per game, and the 7½-game improvement from 2009 to 2010 was topped by only twoother teams in SSC history.

Florida Southern’s remarkable turn-around came against the usual high-caliber competition Seyfarth and the Moccasins have faced every year since he arrived. The Mocs set a school record by defeating three top-25 teams (all of them on the road), and going 2-1-1 against teams that qualified for the NCAA playoffs. That included a 3-1 win at national runner-up Rollins, the Moccasins’ first victory in Winter Park since 1965.

Among the accolades received by the Moccasins in 2010 were two First Team All-SSC players (midfielder Zach Hofsteter and defender Ashley Holmes), and two academic all-district selections (Givi Kokaia and Johan Jonsson). Holmes went on to become the Mocs’ first All-South Region player since 2005, and Kokaia was honored as only the Mocs’ second Academic All-American.

Academic honors are nothing new though for a Seyfarth-coached team. In each of the last four years, the Moccasins have been recognized by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) as having one of the nation’s best men’s soccer programs in the classroom. Florida Southern is one of only five Division II programs to make that list four years in a row, and in all four, the Mocs have been ranked in the top ten. That includes the 2008 team, which ranked #1.

Seyfarth debuted at Florida Southern with a 4-0 win over Palm Beach Atlantic on August 27, 2005. That win came a little over a month after he arrived in Lakeland for his first head coaching job. He followed that by taking the Moccasins on the road for a 2-1upset of Montevallo, at the time, their first win over a nationally ranked opponent in five years. The Mocs finished that season with an 8-8 record, the most wins for any first-year Moccasin soccer coach.

One year later, the Moccasins went 6-9-3, but jumped three spots in the Sunshine State Conference standings with a 3-3-2 league record and advanced to the SSC Tournament semi-finals. That record came against the most difficult schedule in the league too, as Florida Southern faced four top-20 teams, all four teams that played in the NCAA Division II South Region Tournament, and one NAIA squad that reached the national semi-finals. The second half of the season saw Florida Southern defeat two regionally ranked teams and tie another. Three Moccasins ended up on the All-SSC Team, the most in six years.

In 2007, Seyfarth’s third season at Florida Southern, the Moccasins again played the most challenging schedule in the SSC. Florida Southern’s opponents averaged nearly 11 wins and had a combined winning percentage of .600, with four of them nationally ranked at the end of the season and three others ranked during the season. Five of those teams reached the national top 10 at some point during the year. The Mocs also had two top-20 NAIA schools on the schedule, and for the second year in a row played all four teams that advanced to the NCAA Division II South Region Tournament. Against that schedule, the Moccasins went 5-9-1, a season which saw them play nine of the final top ten teams in the South Region. The Mocs dropped two of those games in overtime and took regional qualifiers West Florida and Tampa late into the second half before falling 3-2 in both games.

Though last year’s 9-5-1 record was a break-through for the Moccasins, their turn-around really began late in 2009, oddly enough at the end of a 1-12-1 campaign that featured five NCAA playoff teams, including all four from the South Region for the fourth year in a row. That rugged schedule tested the Mocs every time they took the field, and despite the record, Seyfarth’s team showed vast improvement over the course of the season. That was demonstrated in the final two games when a youthful roster with 20 freshmen and sophomores nearly upset both 20th-ranked Lynn and #6 Rollins. Only a week before, the Mocs had tied another of the other South Region’s top teams in 2009 with a 1-1 draw at Palm Beach Atlantic.

When matched against their record last year, the Mocs’ one-year improvement from 2009 to 2010 was third best in Division II during that span, and third best since the Sunshine State Conference first sponsored soccer in 1977. It also marked an 8-win improvement from one season to the next, a figure topped by only the 1978 Eckerd Tritons and the 2009 Rollins Tars in SSC history, and it improved Seyfarth’s career record to 32-55-6.

Before coming to Florida Southern, Seyfarth had already put together an 11-year coaching resumé that included seven seasons at the Division I level with Miami University in Ohio. While there, hemade his first connection with Florida Southern by serving under Bobby Kramig, a former Moccasin goalkeeper from 1978-81, who was twice named the Mocs’ Most Valuable Player. At Miami, Seyfarth served as an assistant coach with both the men’s and women’s teams during the 1998 and ‘99 seasons before joining the women’s program full-time in 2000. He also served as the Associate Director of the Miami University Youth Soccer Tournament from 1998-2005, assisting in the planning, marketing and operations of the 224-team event.

A former college goalkeeper, Seyfarth worked primarily with the RedHawks’ defense, which recorded 32 shutouts and lowered its goals against average by more than a goal per game in five years under his direction. That included a school-record 10 shutouts in 2002. In his seven seasons with the Miami women’s team, the RedHawks went 84-47-1, won three conference tournament titles and one regular season title in the Mid-America Conference. The RedHawks made three trips to the NCAA Tournament, advancing to the second round in both 2001 and 2002.

Seyfarth’s first college coaching job came at Earlham College in Indiana from 1996-98, where he spent two years as assistant coach for the Quaker men’s program. That included a term as interim head coach during the second half of the ‘96 season.

From 1994-95, Seyfarth was an assistant coach and goalkeeper coach for the boys’ varsity team at Centerville High School, a nationally recognized program in central Ohio. While there, his starting keeper in 1995 was named the Ohio Player-of-the-Year and a high school All-American.

Seyfarth’s resumé also includes the title of staff coach for the Indiana ODP Under-14 girls’ state team in 1997, and assistant coach for the U-16 boys’ team in 1996. He has coached a number of club teams in Ohio and Indiana, and holds a USSF "A" coaching license.

As a college athlete, Seyfarth was a four-year letterman and all-conference goalkeeper at DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana, where he played for Page Cotton, who retired in 2008 with 390 career wins. Seyfarth was a Dean’s List student and team captain as a senior before graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history in 1994. He helped the Tigers to a four-year overall record of 52-14-5, a mark of 24-0 in the Indiana Collegiate Athletic Conference, and a berth in the 1993 NCAA Division III Tournament. During his senior year, the Tigers had one of their best seasons in school history with a 15-2-2 record.

After receiving his bachelor’s degree from DePauw, Seyfarth earned a Master’s in Marketing from the Richard T. Farmer School of Business Administration at Miami University in May of 2000. He also completed an intensive hands-on training program focused on the sales, marketing, promotion and communication process of sports and entertainment organizations that June, before becoming an instructor at the Farmer School of Business later that year. He held that position through the spring of 2005, and now serves as an instructor in the Florida Southern College physical education department in addition to his coaching duties.

Hugh and his wife Stacey now live in Lakeland with their 1-year old daughter Madison.

Assistant CoachDerek Zimmerman

Assistant coach Derek Zimmerman is in his fourth season on the Florida Southern coaching staff after joining the Moccasins in 2008. He has 13 years of coaching experience at the club level and is currently the head coach of the Lakeland FC Boys U-11 team. Zimmerman is also still an active player with the Lakeland Cosmos in the Florida Suncoast League.

A native Floridian, Zimmerman was a 1994 All-State selection, and region player-of-the-year at Lemon Bay High School before playing four years (1994-97) at Division I Radford University in Virginia. While there he

helped the Highlanders compile a 43-30-7 overall record and a mark of 18-9-1 in the Big South Conference. After graduating with a degree in Criminal Justice in 1998, he returned to Florida and became active with Lakeland youth soccer.

While coaching with Lakeland Highlands FC, he has guided teams to the Region C semifinals in 2004-05, a third place finish in the USA Division I League in 2005 and 2006, a first place finish in Champions Group F in 2006-07, and several other finals or semifinal appearances in tournament play.

Assistant Coach Johan JonssonJoining the Florida Southern coaching staff this year is former Moccasin goalkeeper Johan Jonsson, who

graduated in the spring of 2011 with a degree in international business. Jonsson spent four years with the Moccasins from 2007-10, playing in a total of 36 games and starting 35. During that time, the native of Malmo, Sweden recorded 139 saves to finish 10th on the school’s all-time list. His 35 starts rank fourth in the program’s 54-year history among goalkeepers.

Jonsson’s best season with the Moccasins was his last, when he started all 15 games as a senior with a 1.35 goals against average and two shutouts. He was in goal for all three of Florida Southern’s wins over top-25 opponents, which included a 1-0 shutout at Barry.

Jonsson was also an outstanding student at Florida Southern, and was named to the Sunshine State Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll all four years of his career. During his sophomore, junior and senior seasons, Jonsson won a NCAA Division II Academic Achievement Award, and in each of those years was Florida Southern’s Scholar-Athlete Award winner for men’s soccer.

Each year, the National Soccer Coaches Association recognizes some of the top programs in the country with NSCAA Team Academic Award. To qualify for the award, a team must have a minimum grade point average of 3.00 for the academic year. Florida Southern is one of only five NCAA Division II schools to earn that award in each of the last four years, and has been ranked in the top ten in each of them. The 2008 Moccasins had the highest team GPA of any Division II men’s soccer program in the country. The teams are announced in December of the following season.

Did You Know? Florida Southern will have a rare double feature this year when not one, but two, former team MVPs suit up for the Moccasins. Senior David Fletcher was the Mocs’ Most Valuable Player in 2009, and fourth-year junior Ashley Holmes was the winner last year. It’s the first time since 1987 that Florida Southern has had two MVPs on the roster. Twenty-four years ago, it was senior defender Paul Findling and junior goalkeeper Tim Moore. The only other time it’s ever happened was in 1961, when forward Bill (Tex) Jackson and goalkeeper Bill Currie both returned as seniors.

Did You Know? The Florida Southern men’s soccer program is among the oldest in Florida. The Moccasins began playing intercollegiate soccer in 1957, the same year Jacksonville and Stetson also began their programs. Rollins is the only college in the state to field a varsity team any earlier, with the Tars starting the sport in 1956. However, Florida Southern did have a club team from 1954-56, and played the Rollins varsity squad to a 2-2 tie in 1956.

WH Y MOCCASINS? Florida Southern first used the nickname Moccasins in 1926, shortly after the college’s move to Lakeland in 1922. The water moccasin, or cottonmouth, was abundant in the nearby lakes and since the moccasin is one of the fiercest of all snakes, the college adopted the moniker for its athletic teams. A male water moccasin can grow up to 1.8 meters (74 inches) in length, and though its venom is considered relatively mild compared to other poisonous snakes, its bite is still extremely painful.

Did You Know? Since the program began in 1957, Florida Southern has played six scoreless ties in its history. The last occurred on September 3, 2006, when the Moccasins hosted Alabama-Huntsville. Most of the game was played in a downpour, with standing water in several spots on the pitch. The Mocs finally broke through in the first overtime, only to have the goal disallowed off by an offside call. The Moccasins’ other scoreless games were in 1960 vs. Rollins; 1973 at Saint Leo; 1987 at Saint Leo; 1996 vs. Webber; and in 1997 vs. Florida Tech. The Division II record for 0-0 ties in a season is shared by three teams with three, most recently Limestone (SC) in 2006.

FLORIDA SOUTHERN ALL-TIME COACHES

Florida Southern’s first intercollegiate soccer team took the field in 1957, coached by Jim Bush (far right with the bow tie). In their inaugural season, the Moccasins went 1-3-2, playing in the Florida Intercollegiate Conference with Jacksonville, Rollins and Stetson. They tied Stetson, 1-1, in their first game, and earned their first win on November 2, at the expense of Jacksonville, beating the Dolphins, 3-1. Hernando Clavijo scored the first ever goal for the Moccasins, while Eddie Kalaska (kneeling and wearing #13) scored the first game-winner by snapping a 1-1 tie in the third quarter against Jacksonville.

One year later, Florida Southern won the first of its five FIC titles. The Moccasins also won the league in 1965, 1966, 1967, and 1971. The ’71 team earned a bid to the NCAA Small College Southern Regional Tournament, hosted by Rollins, so far the only time the Moccasins have advanced to any type of NCAA postseason play.

FLORIDA SOUTHERN ALL-AMERICANS

BILL CURRIE – 1961Bill Currie, Florida Southern’s first soccer All-American, was also the school’s second All-American in any sport, after basketball player Don Tobin had been honored four years earlier. Currie came to Florida Southern from Rochester, New York, and was a three-year letterman for the Moccasins from 1959-61. In each of those seasons he was All-Florida Intercollegiate Conference as the top goalkeeper in the league, and as a junior and senior, he was Florida Southern’s MVP. In 1960, Currie became the first Moccasin goalkeeper to post a shutout when he blanked Rollins and Emory in back-to-back games, and as a senior in 1961, he set a record that still stands today with 201 saves. Since that is the only season in which his save total is available, it’s likely Currie would be first or second on the Mocs’ career list as well.

JOHN HAYES – 1965As a freshman from Sanford, Florida in 1961, John Hayes served as All-American Bill Currie’s backup in goal; and as a sophomore, he took over between the posts on a regular basis. After sitting out a season, Hayes returned to school in 1964, and spent two more years as Florida Southern’s starting goalkeeper. Among his highlights was a 22-save shutout against the University of Miami as a junior that was the Mocs’ first win over the powerful Hurricanes in seven tries. A year later, the Moccasins won the Florida Intercollegiate Conference with an undefeated league record, and Hayes was named to the all-conference team.

BRIAN BAIN – 1967Just as John Hayes took over for Bill Currie and eventually won All-American honors, Brian Bain took over for Hayes and did the same. Bain, however, won the starting job as a freshman and remains the only four-year starting goalkeeper (1966-69) in team history. During his All-American sophomore season, Bain set a school record that stood for 30 years with a 1.20 goals against average, and his career totals of nine shutouts with a 1.82 GAA stood as records for 28 years. He still ranks in the top three of every career goalkeeping category at Florida Southern, though complete save totals are unavailable from that era. Originally from Union, New Jersey, Bain was also a two-time All-State selection while that team was still in effect, and Florida Southern’s 1968 MVP.

JIM DAWSEY – 1969The only Florida Southern field player to earn All-American honors was Jim Dawsey, who played for the Moccasins at the same time as All-American goalkeeper Brian Bain (1966-69). Dawsey was a Lakeland native who made an immediate impact by earning All-Florida Intercollegiate Conference status as a freshman. A four-year starter at forward and three-year captain, Dawsey graduated as the school’s career leader with 28 goals, a figure that still ranks fifth in team history. He also ranks 10th on the career points list, and would certainly be higherif complete assist totals were available. He still remained in the top five until 1996. Dawsey led the Moccasins in goals as a junior, and in goals (11) and points (24) as a senior when he was Florida Southern’s Most Valuable Player.

AHMAD BELFON – Academic All-American (1997, ’98, ’99)Florida Southern soccer’s only Academic All-American, Ahmad Belfon (also known as Junior) was a four-year starting defender for the Moccasins from 1996-99. During that time, Florida Southern had four of the top six defensive seasons in team history, with a total of 24 shutouts and a 1.09 goals against average. Twice during that period, the Mocs had a team goals against average under 1.00, and in 1997 they set school records with 11 shutouts and a 0.62 GAA. In Belfon’s senior year, the Moccasins set another team record by allowing just 8.8 shots per match while going 13-5-2, and allowing more than one goal in only three of their 20 games played. Belfon also scored five goals with five assists in his career, and his 65 career starts are the fourth most by a Moccasin.

Moccasin Hat TricksSince the men’s soccer program was started in 1957, the Moccasins have had a total of 67 hattricks (three or more goals in one game), most recently by two players in 2010 vs. Ave Maria (Zach Hofstetter and Jared Bellingar).

Among the 67 hat tricks are a school-record 10 by Alan Grossman from 1971-74. The Mocs’ all-time scoring leader had four as a sophomore, set another school record with five as a junior and added one more as a senior. In four of his hat tricks, Grossman scored at least four goals, including three times as a junior.

Several others have had multiple hat tricks in their careers, including Terry Darby (four from 1963-65); Jim Dawsey (four from 1966-69); Frank Bresk (four from 1990-93); and Chris Crawshaw(three from 1994-97).

Some of the other notable hat trick performances:

• Frank Bresk was the last player to have two hat tricks in one year, doing so in 1993 vs. Palm Beach Atlantic and Clearwater Christian.

• Alan Grossman began the 1973 season with four straight hat tricks, scoring a total of 18 goals in those games. Combined with the final game of 1972, he had five consecutive hat tricks over a two-year span.

• On four occasions the Mocs have had two hat tricks in the same game, including last year’s 10-0 win over Ave Maria when Zach Hostetter did it in the first half, and Jared Bellingar did it in the second. The first time was Sept. 18, 1973 in a 13-0 win vs. Flagler when Alan Grossman scored six goals and Andy MacKintoshscored three. The second was a 16-0 win over Florida Bible College on Sept. 12, 1987 when Bobby Pineiro and Steve Lose each scored three goals. Paul Sluyter (4) and Peter Andersen (3) then doubled up in a 13-1 win vs. Southeastern on Sept. 8, 1998.

• Four freshmen have had a hat trick for the Moccasins in their debut, including Andy MacKintosh against Flagler in 1973. Pineiro andLose each did so in the 1987 win over Florida Bible, and Asa Pepiadid it against Bryant in 2002.

• Zach Hofstetter has the fastest hat trick by a Moccasin, and set the record last year against Ave Maria with three goals in the first 11:35 He’s one of six players to record a hat trick by halftime with Alan Grossman scoring five goals during the first half of a 13-0 win over Flagler in 1973.

• Terry Darby is the only Moccasin with a hat trick in a game Florida Southern lost. On October 2, 1965, he scored all four goals in a 5-4loss at Emory.

• Only three Moccasins have had a hat trick in a Sunshine StateConference game: Frank Bresk scored three goals in a 4-3 win at Saint Leo on Oct. 23, 1991; Patrik Dandanell scored three times in a 6-1 win vs. Florida Tech on September 21, 2005; and Givi Kokaia, who made Florida Tech the victim again with three goals in a 4-2victory in 2009.

As a senior in 1997, Cliff Dixon set school records with 11 shutouts and a 0.61 goals against average. He also had an .870 save percentage that was a school record at the time. Dixon was the last Moccasin goal-keeper named All-SSC.

Nathan Garcia is the season record holder in assists for the Moccasins and ranks second on the career list. In 1997, a year before he set the record, the Moccasins won five straight 1-0 games, with Garcia assisting the goal in four of them.

Did You Know?In 1997, Florida Southern played and won five consecutive 1-0 games, and midfielder Nathan Garcia assisted the goal in four of those wins. One of them came against Montevallo, with Tim Cooper scoring the Mocs’ first “Golden Goal” since the NCAA switched to a sudden-death overtime format that season. Overall, the Mocs played a total of seven 1-0 games that year and won all seven en route to a 12-3-2 record.

Asa Pepia is Florida Southern’scareer scoring leader with 106 points, and ranks second in school history with 43 goals. He’s the only Moccasin with four 20-point seasons, including 39 points in 2004, the second most in team history.

Johan Linell holds the career record for lowest goals against average. His career save percentage of .807 is another school record.

Did You Know? Steve Jacobs is the only Moccasin in team history to score a goal, or record a point in the first four games of his career. A freshman from Bermuda, Jacobs scored single goals against Emory, Rollins, Stetson and Miami to start the 1962 season, and ended up as the Mocs’ leading scorer that year with seven goals in nine games.

The last Moccasin to score a goal in his first three games was Mike Nance in 1999, though Nance was a sophomore who transferred from the University of South Florida. The last time a freshman did it was 1993, when Patrick Straub began his career with four goals and three assists in his first three collegiate games.

FLORIDA SOUTHERN MISCELLANEOUS RECORDSFastest Goal at the Start of a Match ................................... 10/ 25/ 77 Eight players have scored goals in the first minute of a match, led by Nick K oumantz elis who scored just 15 seconds into play vs. Eckerd in 1977. The Mocs eventually lost though, 4-3. Paul Finney is the only other Moccasin to score in the first 30 seconds, notching his goal just 25 seconds into a match against Jacksonville in 1964. The Mocs also lost that game. V iktor Bakkioui was the last Moccasin with a goal in the first minute, needing only 43 seconds to score against Palm Beach Atlantic last year. The Moccasins didn’t score again in that game until the second overtime period for a 2-1 victory. Four of the eight times they’ve scored in the game’s opening minute, the Mocs have lost. Oddly enough, the last time the Mocs allowed a goal in the first minute of a game they ended up with a win. It happened in 2009 when Florida Tech’s David Tuft scored 46 seconds after the opening kickoff, but Florida Southern won the game, 3-1. Shortest Time Between Goals ............................................... 10/ 9/ 86 Teammates K eith Spresser (below left) and Frank Stork (below right) scored just six seconds apart early in the first half of a 7-0 win over Warner Southern. That’s one second shy of the NCAA record held by Ian Martin and Josh Dukes of Florida International, set against St. Thomas in 1979.

Shortest Time Between Goals by the Same Player ................ 9/ 12/ 87 Okay, so everyone scored in a 16-0 win vs. Florida Bible College in 1987, but Steve Lose scored back-to-back goals just eight seconds apart. He shares the NCAA all-divisions record with George Moyssidis of Florida International. Two Penalty K icks in One Game ............................................ 9/ 23/ 89 Penalty kicks really aren’t that unusual, but only once on record in 54 years has a Moccasin converted two of them in one game. That rare feat was accomplished by Mike Bauder in 1989, a junior forward and the Mocs’ leading scorer that year with eight goals and 24 points. In a 2-2 tie against Florida Atlantic, Bauder tallied both Florida Southern goals from the 12-yard spot. Each goal tied the game, with the first one coming in the 39th minute, and the second one coming in the 66th.

FLORIDA SOUTHERN HALL OF FAMERS

Jim Bush, Florida Southern Hall of Fame, Class of 2005 Jim Bush spent 30 years at Florida Southern and served as head coach of the Moccasins from their beginning in 1957, until his retirement following the 1980 season. He compiled a career record of 115-118-23, won five Florida Intercollegiate Conference titles, and led the Mocs to their only NCAA Tournament appearance in 1971. Bush also coached the Florida Southern men’s tennis team for 27 years (1959-85) and put together a mark of 283-209, and the FSC women’s tennis team in 1979 and ‘80 with a record of 33-16.

Alan Grossman, Florida Southern Hall of Fame, Class of 2006

In 2006, Jim Bush was joined by one of his former players, Alan Grossman, who played at FSC from 1971-74. He set season records that still stand with 22 goals and 47 points in 1973, and also owns the school record for goals in a match (6), goals in a career (47), and most career hat tricks (10). His career total of 97 points stood as a school record for 31 years before it was broken in 2005. He was the Mocs’ leading scorer three times, including his senior year when he moved to the back line in order to help the defense.

Brian Bain, Florida Southern Hall of Fame, Class of 2010

Brian Bain was a 1967 All-American and remains the only four-year starting goalkeeper in team history (1966-69). Though complete save totals from that era are unavailable, he still ranks in the top three of every career goalkeeping category in the team record book. After his graduation, Bain taught in the Polk County school system for 35 years and was well-known for his involvement in high school sports, particularly volleyball and wrestling. In 2001, he was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame.

Cliff Dixon, Florida Southern Hall of Fame, Class of 2011

Cliff Dixon came to Florida Southern in 1995 after one year at the University of Central Florida, and spent most of the next three years as the Moccasins’ starting goalkeeper. He was named Second Team All-Sunshine State Conference as a junior, and as a senior he was both First Team All-SSC and Second Team All-South Region. That year, in 1997, he set school records that still stand for goals against average (0.61) and shutouts (11), while making 67 saves. Dixon’s overall career numbers include a team record 17 shutouts, while his 1.19 goals against average is second all-time.

The Founding Father of Florida Southern Soccer, 2007 Hall of Fame Inductee Mohammed Sabie Though he never served as head coach of the men’s soccer team, Mohammed Sabie would have to be considered the patriarch of the Florida Southern soccer program. As a student at Florida Southern in 1954, Sabie was instrumental in organizing a men’s club soccer program, which later reached varsity status in 1957. He also played for the early Moccasins and after his graduation in 1957, took his soccer expertise to Kentucky where he is credited with being one of the founding fathers of soccer in that state. He coached and taught at Morehead State University for 38 years and is a member of that school’s Hall of Fame as well. Sabie was also a coach for the Iraqi national team in the 1968 Olympics. In March of 2007, Sabie became the third person inducted into the Florida Southern Athletic Hall of Fame for his contributions to soccer. He joined Jim Bush, the Moccasin coach from 1957-80, and Alan Grossman, who played for the Mocs from 1971-74, and still holds the school’s career goals record. Shortly after his induction into the FSC Athletic Hall of Fame, Sabie passed away in Kentucky at the age of 77. Mohammed Sabie

RECORD NIGH T AT ROLLINS Only once has a Florida Southern soccer match been decided by penalty kicks, and it came in the first round of the 2003 Sunshine State Conference Tournament at Rollins. Since it was the first time the SSC had staged a postseason tournament since 1981, the Tars would actually have to be considered the defending champions of a sort. Ranked #18 in the country, Rollins was also looking to possibly secure its first trip to the NCAA Tournament in 21 years. The Tars were 13-2-2 overall and seeded third in the SSC Tournament, while the Moccasins were 8-8-1, seeded sixth, and looking to end the year on a high note. Statistically, Rollins had the edge for most of the night, but a goal by Pete Schiebel in the 26th minute had given Florida Southern a 1-0 lead. It stood up until Ryan Dodds tied the game for Rollins with 11 minutes remaining. When overtime ended with the game still tied 1-1, the result was officially a tie, but penalty kicks were used to determine which team would advance to the SSC semi-finals. With Rollins going first, each team took five penalty kicks, but each went 5-for-5, sending the game to sudden death penalty kicks. The first time one team scored and the other didn’t, the game would be over. It took 11 rounds of sudden death PKs for that to happen, and even more amazing was that neither team missed until the very end. On the Tars’ 16th attempt (the 11th sudden death attempt), Moccasin goalkeeper Clint H arris stopped German V ivas, giving Asa Pepia a chance to decide the game for Florida Southern. Having already made one other penalty kick in the tie-breaker, Pepia made it 2-for-2, bringing the game to a close just over three hours after it began. Though there are no official records, it’s believed to be the longest game in NCAA Division II history, and matched a 16-round tie-breaker by Clarkson (NY) and Plattsburgh State (NY) in the first round of a 1993 Division III Regional Tournament. Clarkson won that one, 11-10, and it will be nearly impossible for any two teams to equal what Florida Southern and Rollins accomplished by each making 15 in a row before a miss. In addition to Pepia, the Moccasins also got two PKs from K eith Butler, Pete Schiebel, Clay Roberts, Travis H obgood, and Panu Purhonen. Four others made their only attempt during the tie-breaker, all of them during the sudden death portion: J onathan Streets, Brian Miller, Adam Lemnouni and Doug H ughes. Harris had 11 saves during regulation and overtime before making his biggest one at the end. Ironically, Rollins’ Chris Cerroni, who made two PKs during the tie-breaker, bounced one off the left post early in the first half that would have given the Tars a 1-0 lead.

TH E 1971 NCAA SMALL COLLEGE TOURNAMENT Florida Southern’s only trip to the NCAA playoffs happened in 1971, when the Moccasins earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Small College South Regional by winning the Florida Intercollegiate Conference. They got that bid by defeating Rollins 1-0 in the final game of the regular season when freshman Frank H anraets scored with three seconds to play in overtime, assisted by Richard Brelsford. Rollins also received a bid and served as the tournament host, with Loyola (MD) and James Madison completing the field. With each team playing two games, the Mocs lost to Loyola 4-0 in the opening round, before dropping a 3-0 decision the next day to James Madison. Loyola won the region title with a 7-2 win over Rollins.

THE SUNSHINE STATE CONFERENCEFounded in 1975, the Sunshine

State Conference has risen from a single sport organization to the Division II “Conference of Champions”. Since its inception, the conference has grown steadily in sports played, membership and national prominence.

Sunshine State Conference member schools have won recent NCAA national titles (76 total) in baseball,

men’s basketball, men’s and women’s golf, softball, men’s and women’s tennis, men’s and women’s soccer, and

women’s volleyball. The SSC is also nationally recognized in men’s and women’s cross country, women’s rowing and women’s basketball.

The SSC sponsors championships in baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s tennis, women’s volleyball, softball and women’s rowing.

Last year saw the SSC add two more titles to the list when Nova Southeastern captured its third straight national championship in women’s golf, and Barry brought home the women’s tennis championship one year after its men won.

Did You Know? In addition to the nine current members of the Sunshine State Conference, three others schools have also been part of the conference at one time or another. Two of those schools were among the six charter members when the league was founded on March 16, 1975. Originally known as Florida Tech University, the University of Central Florida left the SSC in the spring of 1984 to move toward Division I status. Three years later, St. Thomas University (originally known as Biscayne College) also left to become an NAIA program. The third former SSC member is the University of North Florida, which joined the league as a provisional member in the fall of 1992, and stayed through the spring of 1997. After a brief stint in the Peach Belt Conference, UNF also made the move to Division I.

Former Florida Southern goalkeeper Clint Harris had 11 saves in the Mocs’ 2003 SSC Tournament game at Rollins. That number still stands as the record for the conference tournament, though it’s since been equaled by Cory Collins of Florida Tech (2006 vs. Tampa) and Jarrod Rennick of Nova SE (2007 vs. Lynn).Since the tournament was resurrected in 2003, only one player has ever had a hat trick, with Rollins’ Chris Cerroni scoring three goals for the Tars in a 3-0 win over Florida Tech in the 2006 semifinals.

SUNSHINE STATE CONFERENCEHALL-OF-FAME

There are more members of the SSC Hall of Fame from Florida Southern than any other school in the league, and three more were inducted in 2011 to bring that total to 44. The most recent inductees are men’s golfer Steve Paramore, softball player Wanda Graham, and women’s basketball player Lucresia West (pictured from left to right). Nine Moccasin representatives were inducted into the inaugural class in 1991-92, and FSC has had at least one inductee in 16 of the 19classes since the Hall’s inception. Of the 44 inductees, 30 have been student-athletes, while 10 have come from the coaching ranks, and four from administrative and staff positions.

FLORIDA SOUTHERN COLLEGEATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIPS

Florida Southern College is proud to be able to provide distinct scholarships for most of its varsity sports. Established by gifts from many generous donors, these named scholarships were created to recognize and honor an individual or were created as memorials. All of them reflect a donor’s love of sports, a desire to assist exceptional student-athletes, and a commitment to higher education. Florida Southern’s Athletic Department is extremely grateful for the support from these outstanding individuals. If you are interested in contributing to a current scholarship or establishing a new one, please call Florida Southern Athletic Director Pete Meyer at 863-680-4264.

Annie Pfeiffer Chapel, completed in 1941, was the first of Wright's designs at Florida Southern College.

Florida Southern is home to the world’s only Frank Lloyd Wright-designed planetarium.

Florida Southern CollegeFrank Lloyd Wright's"Child of the Sun"

Founded by the United Methodist Church, Florida Southern College is one of the oldest private colleges in the state, tracing its beginnings to a small seminary in Orlando in 1885. The tie to its founding church has remained constant and is today, a proud part of the College's heritage and a bright beacon for the future.

Florida Southern moved to Lakeland in the heart of Florida's citrus belt in 1922 and began the construction of a campus that would eventually become a national landmark. The beautiful 100-acre campus, on the north shore of Lake Hollingsworth, includes the world's largest collection of buildings by master architect Frank Lloyd Wright.

Florida Southern’s West Campus, now known throughout the world, actually had its inception in the mind of Dr. Ludd M. Spivey, president of the college from 1925-1957.

In 1935 he conceived the idea of an ultra-modern campus, designed by the world's leading architect. Ground was broken two years later for the first building in the Wright collection, the Annie Pfeiffer Chapel.

What Frank Lloyd Wright created on the campus is amazing. His original work is still as modern and exciting as the newest buildings still on many architect's drawing boards. It is, perhaps, symbolic that the greatest concentration of his genius should be located at a small, private institution of higher learning. Perhaps he describes it best, "...out of the ground and into the light, a child of the sun...the college of tomorrow."

The Thad Buckner Building is home to the Frank Lloyd Wright “Child of the Sun” Visitor Center.

The Danforth Chapel is one of two chapels on campus designed by Frank Lloyd Wright.

The Nina B. Hollis Wellness Center houses a full-sized basketball court, weight and aerobic rooms, and a student lounge and is adjacent to an NCAA regulation size swimming pool.

Frank Lloyd Wright often visited Florida Southern during his 20-year relationship with the college.

A grouping of three residence halls, the Publix Commons are close to just about everything on the Florida Southern campus. All three buildings offer suite-style living in which six students each have their own rooms and share a living area and bathroom. The Publix Commons also is home to Florida Southern’s Greek organizations.

Florida Southern’s recently renovated Water Dome, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, made its premiere performance on October 25, 2007. The Water Dome features 74 jets powering streams of water 45-feet into the air. It took almost 260,000 gallons of water to fill the basin of the dome and at full power 4,800 gallons are water are pumped per minute.

All of Florida Southern College’s residence halls offer wireless access in the common lobby areas and every room offers cable TV and is wired for internet access. In addition, wireless hotspots on campus include the Roux Library, TûTû’s Cyber Cafe (which offers Starbucks products), Wynee’s Bistro (our cafeteria), and the Nina B. Hollis Wellness Center and pool area.

As one of the four original buildings on the FSC campus, Joseph-Reynolds Hall (“JR”) offers one of the best views on campus. It sits atop a hill overlooking Lake Hollingsworth. Community life is big here - the women of JR form groups within the building as a whole and also within the “wings” and smaller hallways. JR and its companion hall, Spivey, are located in the center of campus between Edge Hall and Ordway and serve mainly as first-year female residence halls.

Wesley Hall is one of two new twin residence halls at FSC, and opened in the fall of 2008. The second building, Nicholas Hall, opened in the fall of 2009. Each new residence hall includes 115 bedrooms with views of Lake Hollingsworth, meeting rooms, student lounges, kitchens, and study spaces.

FLORIDA SOUTHERN SECOND ON BOTH SIDES OF THE MAYORS’ CUP

The Mayors’ Cup recognizes competition in seven sports for men (soccer, cross country, basketball, swimming, golf, tennis and baseball), and nine sports for women (soccer, cross country, basketball, swimming golf, tennis volleyball, softball and rowing). Points in each sport are awarded by the number of schools sponsoring teams in the respective sports.

Last year saw Florida Southern win the women’s Mayors’ Cup for the 11th time, largely on the strength of its SSC title in basketball, and 2nd-place finishes in volleyball, swimming and golf.

Florida Southern has also won the men’s Mayors’ Cup 11 times, and nearly added to that total last year. The Mocs finished second to Barry by half a point.

BARNETT FIELD, HOME OF THE MOCCASINSThe Moccasins play all of their home

games at Barnett Field, on the campus of Florida Southern College. The field is located behind Jenkins Field House, home of the Moccasin volleyball and basketball teams, on the corner of Ingraham Avenue and McDonald Street. Bleacher seating is available on one side of the pitch for approximately 500 fans.

Barnett Field is the only home the Moccasins have ever known since soccer was first played as an intercollegiate sport in 1957. Originally known as Pipkin Field, it was re-christened Barnett Field in 1990, in honor of longtime Florida Southern booster Hoyt Barnett.

Lights were installed (nine polls at the cost of $100,000) in October of 1989, and the Moccasins played their first night gameat Barnett Field in a 5-1, exhibition victory over Polk Community College in 1990. The first regular season night game was on September 8 of that year, a 2-0 loss to Flagler.

The first intercollegiate soccer game at Pipkin/Barnett Field was on October 26, 1957, when the Mocs lost to Rollins College,3-1. Their first win came one week later on November 2, when they beat the University of Jacksonville, 3-1. Since that first season, Florida Southern has compiled a 234-176-30 record on its home pitch for a .566 winning percentage.
