HEAD COACH DENEEN EBLING The 2013-14 season will mark the 12th year for Deneen Ebling as the head coach for Albright’s indoor and outdoor track and field teams. She previously served as an assistant coach for five seasons (1999-2002). In 2013, Ebling coached her second All- American as Danisha Higgs earned the recognition at 200 meters. In 2004, high jumper Jeff Witmyer also took home All- American honors. Albright has had eight NCAA qualifiers since 2005, with three athletes placing in the top 10 nationally. Under Ebling, the Lions have broken 29 indoor school records (17 men, 12 women) and 25 outdoor school records (12 men, 13 women). Ebling attended Indiana University where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Criminolgy in 1986. Ebling would then continue her education at West Virginia University where she received her master’s degree in Counseling in 1995. The 2012-13 Albright College track & field season ended on a high note, as junior sprinter Danisha Higgs competed in the 100 and 200 meters at the NCAA outdoor championships. Higgs placed fifth in the 200 meters to become the first female All-American in program history. An exceptional student, Higgs was also named an Academic All-American along with earning USTF- CCCA Mideast Region Athlete of the Year honors. Higgs returns for her senior season after the Lady Lions broke a number of school sprinting records last spring. Higgs also helped the team to a record in the 4x100m relay; Taylor Kutz has graduated after setting a new 400 meters record, but her brother Colby Kutz joins the men’s squad after previously running for Division I Robert Morris. Along with Higgs, the Lions could pick up points in distance events with senior Caroline Vazzana and sophomore Tamahra Sheard. Vazzana has earned multiple All-Confer- ence honors throughout her career and was Albright’s #1 cross country runner in the fall. Juniors Ronya Nassar (triple jump, long jump) and Angelica Hull (high jump, throws) lead the field events. The men should have a deep sprinting core led by indoor school record-holders Sean Potter (60 meters, 200 meters), Oumar Diawara (400 meters) and Jermaine Grey (60 meter hurdles). A deep freshman class adds more potential in the sprints with football player Gerrod Gainer. Rookie Colton Harer will have success in multi-events, while freshmen Trent Thorne and Tymeer Roberts should compete in the jumps. LION LINKS... The 2013-14 season will mark the 12th year for Deneen Ebling as the head coach for Albright’s indoor and outdoor track and field teams. She previously served as an assistant coach for five seasons (1999-2002).
