Since the beginning of this pandemic, Men-Tsee-Khang (MTK) has seen this as an opportunity to serve the purpose of Sowa-Rigpa, which is to bring relief to people’s physical and mental suffering. MTK even submitted a proposal to AYUSH offering to provide free treatment to all COVID-19 patients. Men-Tsee-Khang has provided free treatment to over 5,000 patients, including those of Tibetan, Indian and others. To study the effectiveness of Tibetan Medicine in treating COVID-19, MTK’s Research & Development Department (R&D) sent out questionnaires to all branch clinics and former MTK doctors. e data collected will be analyzed and compiled into a research report. As of June 30, R&D has received over 3,000 filled forms from 40+ branch clinics and former MTK doctors. is report will be released alongside the Executive Summary in October containing the Director’s note, the introduction of MTK, donations, and expenses related to COVID-19 activities with a summary of the COVID-19 Research Report. e report will also include the experiences of doctors who treated COVID-19 patients in Delhi and Dharamsala (Gangkyi and Neylenkhang) as part of the Men-Tsee-Khang External Emergency Team (MEET). As of July 31, 91.1% of the Tibetan population in Diaspora received vaccines. Considering most countries, including our host country India, the vaccination rate is higher for Tibetans in various settlements in India. Nurses demonstrating how to perform CPR techniques.

MEDICAL TOUR BY VOLUNTEER NURSES15th July: Men-Tsee-Khang arranged a medical tour to Tilokpur Nunnery and Shalu Monastery. The team from the institute was accompanied by the volunteer

nurses, U.S. Tibetan Nurses Medical Mission to India. Ms. Tenzin Dechen, Nurse gave presentation on guidelines to COVID-19 whereas Ms. Tenzin Khando, Nurse demonstrated CPR and Choking training. Dr. Tsundue Dolma and her team from the institute provided consultations and medicines to the monks, nuns and the elders on part charity.

9th, 12th and 13th July: A Team headed by Dr. Lhundup Dorje from Men-Tsee-Khang, under its MEET initiatives with the volunteer nurses from Tibetan Nurses medical mission to India, provided workshops at Kunphen Rehabilitation Centre and Chauntra. Ms. Tenzin Dechen, and Ms. Tenzin Khando, the Nurses, gave workshops on COVID-19 awareness and life support training (CPR & Choking) to the staff of various departments of Men-Tsee-Khang and Dhonden Old Peoples Home at Chauntra and Kunphen Rehabilitation Centre. The team also provided a talk on how to tackle emotional statements at the time of crisis. Staff and caretakers were educated on the way to use Oxygen Concentrator and other medical equipment.

FELICITATION FOR VOLUNTEER NURSES On July 16, volunteer nurses from Tibetan Nurses Medical Mission to India were felicitated by Sikyong Penpa Tsering for their volunteer services to the Tibetan community for over a month during its fight against the second wave of the Coronavirus in India. A farewell luncheon was organized at the Department of Health, Central Tibetan Administration (CTA), whereafter the nurses briefed their experiences on handling COVID-19.

CTA’s COVID-19 task force also attended the ceremony, including Men-Tsee-Khang’s Director, who presented special MTK products to all the Nurses.

WEEKLY CTA COVID-19 TASK FORCE MEETING On July 29, Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) held its weekly task force meeting wherein the guidelines

to compact the 3rd wave of COVID-19 especially in Monasteries/Schools were discussed. Information on preparation of Isolation facilities, contact tracing, case management and prevention of onward spread of COVID-19 were presented to the Chazoeds (General Managers) of different Monasteries through a virtual meeting.

MEN-TSEE-KHANG AMBULANCE Ambulance funded by Norzang Foundation, Switzerland, for conducting medical camps in hilly and remote areas of the Himalayan states has served well during the second wave of COVID-19 to transfer the COVID-19 patients to hospitals in time.

Taking lessons from the devastating second wave of COVID-19 pandemic in India, the Researchers and Experts warning about possible third wave are still lurking and likely to hit India by August/September, MTK Ambulance will be kept on standby for August and September for free use by all the Tibetan Organizations in and around Dharamsala.

Men-Tsee-Khang is tentatively planning to schedule Medical Camps to the hilly and remote areas of Uttarakhand and Lahaul & Spiti from October 2021.
