ARTIST STATEMENT

I am Multimedia Artist who ocuses on creating visually interesting

and yet eccentric works that possess under lying meanings

relevant to current issues. My works range rom motion graphics

to illustration and graphic design. I mainly use digital tools to aidmy traditional design making skills in creating new work that

ranges rom the relatable to the bizarre. I want to share how I view

people and the world as I see the weirdness as something that is

real and is completely unavoidable. I aim to link the bizarre with the

common, as it is a reection o what the world is: unique and weird

individuals striving or uniormity, which I personally think is bad.

One o my series o digital and traditional illustrations and prints

entitled Of Love and Dysenteryis about a girl and a cockroach

that all in love with each other. This is seen as something strange

and disconcerting. How the mind wants to reason out that the two

cannot be together as it would end up utile and impossible isbeing challenged through illustrating them romantically and

showing how in love they are with each other.

Romantically raming the cockroach and the girl kissing adds to the

antastic eeling and sort o diminishes the idea o grossness. This

relates to how people see unusual couples (dierence in race,

same gender, etc.) are in love with each other, and how they develop

this eeling o disgust towards it based on their own belies and

upbringing, I wanted to show how love is something that transcends

boundaries and brings orth an understanding that anybody can

connect to.

My digital illustration entitled Phantasm also incorporates the

bizarreness I aim to incorporate in most o my works. This work

includes o most o the characters o the stories I have created,

which includes a melancholic maiden made out o chocolate that

lives on the tip o a petrifed rog kings tongue, and it also includes

the cockroach and the girl who have allen in love with each other. I

was mainly inspired by childrens book illustration as well as

art nouveau or this particular piece, which commonly includes

various characters in interesting situations.

My digital painting entitled Magluta tackles a particular issuethat Filipinos can relate to. The modern Filipino woman wants to

achieve airer skin as the Filipino society sees it as beauty and it

also signifes that you are o a higher status than most people who

have to work under the sun and have darker skin. I illustrated the

pale woman covering her ace with a neon green an with

strawberries in it as it signifes the attention she is getting, like a

oreign woman rom a country o air-skinned people. The woman

sitting on a golden stool also symbolizes privilege, and yet her

being in the dark and with a bottle o pills spilled under her

signiies corruption and shows how she isnt really doing

something good to hersel.

My book entitled heaven-peace-love-past-earth-revolution-life-moment-

hell-war-anger-future leans toward the relatable side, but I stillincorporated ideas that make it unusual. The concept o the

book was the word POLE and I interpreted it as the connection

between two opposing ends: heaven and hell connected by earth,

war and peace by revolution, love and anger by lie, and past and

uture by the present.

My books cover design, ties it well with my aim to create the

unusual. I used a type o paper that does not hold ink well; staining

the hands o those who touch it, and making them connect with

my book and become a part o the concept that I have thought o

or the word POLE. This eect also makes the book look worn

out and old, allowing it to look like it has been handled by a lot o

people, making it look relatable and bizarre at the same time.

I fnd creating art with unusual themes has its own relatable charm

that makes it more interesting and eye catching. The symbolisms

and the story behind the work that I do and aim to continue to do is

something that can improve my image making skills, allowing me

to think about the whys and making my works more meaningul. I

aim to continue creating more works that stir peoples attention

and draws them in to the relatable elements present in the

unusual, hoping that the connection they eel will educate them

with the issues that I have chosen to tackle.

easily disposable.

clones who were bought uptogether, knowing their purpose in life,which is to donate their body parts

until they eventually die. The storyis narrated by one of the clonesnamed Kathy H. as she reminisceshow they grew up, fell in love, andinnocently looked for ways on how

they can spend more time livingwith the one they love before

slowly disintegratingand passing

away.

the word High Voltage. I aimed to convey energy, movement,

and an outburst of emotion through using angled type as well as

the use of strong contrasting colors.
