A ‘mega musical’ is a particularly elaborate or successful musical

‘Mega Musical’: The Lion King ‘The Lion King’ is one of the most well known musical that has ever been produced. It is based on the 1994 hit Disney animated film which also

had the same name. The musical itself was pretty simple but still really effective. However the

costumes were a totally different story, they were really colourful and each and every one of the

costumes made a statement.

How This Musical is Different to Others:

This musical is different to other musicals produced as this was inspired by a hit film, and all the other musicals are made from scratch. Also, the songs in this musical were mostly

sung by the same person Elton John, whereas in other musicals it’s very rare for one person singing pretty much every single song in the

musical.

Why Recent Musicals Have Changed in this way:

Recent Musicals are either based on hit films, or they’re a remake of a previous hit musical. Musical’s have changed in this way to get a

bigger audience and to be on the safe side of things, because the producer would know that if the musical was hit before (or even the film) it

would definitely sell very well and would make a good profit. As well as that it’s more enjoyable for people because they can relate back to the

past, and know where the musicals going.
