01.Scene 1 / It is 1815 in France. Jean Valjean has just come out of prison after 19 years for stealing some bread.
02.He has no place to go, but a kind bishop named Myriel takes him in and gives him some food.
03.In the middle of the night, Valjean steals some silver and runs away, but is caught.
04.Police officer: Where did you get the silver?
05.Valjean: Bishop Myriel gave the silver to me as a gift.
06.Police officer: Stop lying. You are a thief. (Bishop Myriel enters.)
07.Bishop: Heโs telling the truth. I did give the silver to him.
08.But my friend, donโt you remember I gave you these candlesticks, too? (gives Valjean two silver candlesticks)
09.Police officer: Iโm terribly sorry. I will let him go. (Police officer leaves.)
10.Valjean: Why did you save me?
11.Bishop: One day you will understand. But remember, my friend. You must use this precious silver to become an honest man.
12.Later Valjean steps on a coin that a boy has dropped. The boy thinks that Valjean stole the coin and runs to the police.
13.Valjean realizes what happened and tries to return the coin to the boy.
14.But it is too late. He is a thief again, and he is on the run again.
15.Scene 2 The year is 1823. Valjean changes his name, hides his past, and becomes the mayor of a town.
16.One day a man is stuck under a cart and is in danger. Javert, a police officer who is after Valjean, is near.
17.Valjean knows who Javert is, but Javert does not know that the mayor is Valjean.
18.Valjean: Is there anyone here who will rescue the man?
19.Woman: Itโs too dangerous.
20.Valjean: We have to do something.
21.Man: No one is strong enough to lift the cart.
22.Javert: I once knew a man who was that strong.
23.Valjean: (to himself) If I lift the cart, Javert might suspect who I am.... But I cannot let the man die. (Valjean lifts the cart and people pull the man out.)
24.Javert: I donโt believe my eyes! You make me think of a man from years ago.
25.Valjean: Who?
26.Javert: A thief named Jean Valjean. He was stronger than any other man I knew.
27.Valjean: Go on.
28.Javert: Iโm sorry, Mr. Mayor. Itโs nothing. Heโs finally been caught.
29.Valjean: What? Where is he now?
30.Javert: Heโs going to be sentenced in court today.
31.Valjean: (to himself) What should I do? Should I save him? No! But if I stay quiet, an innocent man will go to prison.
32.Valjean goes to court and tells everyone that he is the real Jean Valjean. The innocent man is freed and Valjean runs away.
33.Scene 3 / The year is 1832. Valjean and Javert meet again. This time Valjean is holding a gun.
34.Javert: Are you going to kill me?
35.Valjean: Your life is safe in my hands.
36.Javert: Once a thief, forever a thief. You will never change. Shoot me now! I donโt care!
37.Valjean: You are wrong, and have always been wrong. Thanks to the bishop, the old Jean Valjean is gone. I forgive you as he forgave me. (shoots the gun in the air) Now go!

์] There are so many things we can do to save our planet earth. For starters, we should use public transportation more. Since cars run on fuel and emit exhaust gas, it can lead to the air pollution. Also, it is a good idea to carry our own shopping bags. Plastic bags wonโt be broken down easily. Lastly, we had better turn off the computers when we are not using it. Although what we can do seems like nothing, it can bring a big change in the future.

01.Picture this. Youโre sailing in the Pacific Ocean. The skies are sunny and the blue ocean is beautiful.
02.Itโs like a scene right out of a movie.
03.Then, all of a sudden, you see something up ahead. It looks like an island.
04.You check the map but donโt find any island there.
05.Then you get closer and realize that itโs not an island but floating garbage! You cannot believe your eyes.
06.What Is It?
07.The floating garbage is called the Great Pacific Garbage Patch.
08.It is located somewhere between California and Japan, and some studies say that is about 14 time bigger than Korea.
09.Most of the floating garbage is plastic.
10.The floating garbage patch was discovered in 1997 by a man named Charles Moore.
11.At first, he had mistaken it for an island.
12.Where Does It Come from?
13.The garbage comes from all over the world.
14.It can be water bottles from Korea, food containers from the US, or plastic bags from Russia.
15.When they get into rivers, they are carried out to sea.
16.If they get caught in the ocean currents, they become part of the garbage patch.
17.What Are Its Effects?
18.Many fish, birds, and other sea animals mistake the garbage for food.
19.They often die from eating plastic since their bodies cannot break it down.
20.When a dead bird from the area was cut open, there wasnโt any fish in its stomach.
21.Instead, there were many different plastic products!
22.Although this problem may seem far away from you, it is closer to you than you think.
23.A small fish may eat some plastic. Then it can be eaten by a bigger fish or bird.
24.The plastic can travel up the food chain to your dinner table.
25.Maybe a piece of your plastic grocery bag or water bottle will end up in your stomach.
26.What Can We Do about It?
27.Here are some things we can do to stop the floating garbage problem from growing.
28.What We Can Do ...
29. โขDonโt throw garbage on the street.
30.โขRecycle as much as you can.
31.โขIf you go to the beach, take your garbage back with you.
32.โขCarry your own shopping bag.
33.โขMost importantly, use fewer plastic products.
34.Remember that plastic does not break down naturally.
35.Until scientists come up with a way to clean up the trash, we need to do everything we can.
36.Letโs help the sea animals, the earth and ourselves.

4 Master
01.We, humans, learn at a very young age that we have to be nice to each other.
02.What about animals?
03.We have discovered many cases where animals seem to be nice to each other.
04.But do you think animals are really nice?
05.Read the following stories and decide for yourself.
06.Foxy Friends
07. If your friend wasnโt nice to you, what would you do?
08.Maybe you would just walk away.
09.Thatโs exactly what a fox in Yellowstone National Park did.
10.A female fox was playing with a male fox.
11.The male fox began pushing her too hard.
12.The female fox didnโt like it, so she walked away.
13.The male, who wanted to keep playing, ran to the female, bowed down, and rolled over.
14.His body language meant, โDonโt leave. Iโll be nicer.โ
15.She gave him another chance, and he played more nicely this time.
16.A Gift from Above
17.A dog named Toby and a cat named Katie lived together in the same house in London for ten years.
18.After dinner, the owner always gave them the leftovers.
19.The owner would drop some in Tobyโs bowl on the floor and some in Katieโs dish on the kitchen table.
20.Every night, Toby would finish his food in seconds and look up at Katie.
21.Then Katie would drop some tasty pieces down to the waiting dog.
22.In return, whenever Toby was lying on his bed and Katie walked over, Toby would give up his nice, warm bed to Katie and lie on the floor.
23.A Helping Trunk
24.In Kenya, an elephant injured the tip of his trunk while he was freeing himself from a trap.
25.Until his trunk got better, he needed help with getting food.
26.The injured elephant walked up and stuck his trunk into the mouth of a completely strange elephant.
27.The healthy elephant understood what the poor elephant wanted.
28.So he pulled out a small tree from the ground, and put it into his new friendโs mouth.
29.As you can see, animals can be really nice.
30.Sometimes, they will go out of their way to help other animals.
31.Why do they do this?
32.Itโs likely that they feel good when they help others, just like you and me.

01.<Scene 1> It is 1815 in France.
07.(Bishop Myriel enters.) Bishop: Heโs telling the truth.
12.You must use this precious silver to become an honest man.
13.Later Valjean steps on a coin that a boy has dropped. The boy thinks that Valjean stole the coin and runs to the police.
14.Valjean realizes what happened and tries to return the coin to the boy.
15.But it is too late. He is a thief again, and he is on the run again.
16.<Scene 2> The year is 1823. Valjean changes his name, hides his past, and becomes the mayor of a town.
17.One day a man is stuck under a cart and is in danger. Javert, a police officer who is after Valjean, is near.
18.Valjean knows who Javert is, but Javert does not know that the mayor is Valjean.
19.Valjean: Is there anyone here who will rescue the man?
20.Woman: Itโs too dangerous.
21.Valjean: We have to do something.

22.Man: No one is strong enough to lift the cart.
23.Javert: I once knew a man who was that strong.
24.Valjean: (to himself) If I lift the cart, Javert might suspect who I am.... But I cannot let the man die.
25.(Valjean lifts the cart and people pull the man out.)
26.Javert: I donโt believe my eyes! You make me think of a man from years ago.
27.Valjean: Who?
28.Javert: A thief named Jean Valjean. He was stronger than any other man I knew.
29.Valjean: Go on.
30.Javert: Iโm sorry, Mr. Mayor. Itโs nothing. Heโs finally been caught.
31.Valjean: What? Where is he now?
32.Javert: Heโs going to be sentenced in court today.
33.Valjean: (to himself) What should I do? Should I save him? No!
34.But if I stay quiet, an innocent man will go to prison.
35.Valjean goes to court and tells everyone that he is the real Jean Valjean.
36.The innocent man is freed and Valjean runs away.
37.<Scene 3> The year is 1832. Valjean and Javert meet again. This time Valjean is holding a gun.
38.Javert: Are you going to kill me?
39.Valjean: Your life is safe in my hands.
40.Javert: Once a thief, forever a thief. You will never change. Shoot me now! I donโt care!
41.Valjean: You are wrong, and have always been wrong. Thanks to the bishop, the old Jean Valjean is gone.
42.I forgive you as he forgave me. (shoots the gun in the air) Now go!

01.Picture this.
02.Youโre sailing in the Pacific Ocean.
03.The skies are sunny and the blue ocean is beautiful.
04.Itโs like a scene right out of a movie.
05.Then, all of a sudden, you see something up ahead.
06.It looks like an island.
07.You check the map but donโt find any island there.
08.Then you get closer and realize that itโs not an island but floating garbage!
09.You cannot believe your eyes.
10.What Is It?
11.The floating garbage is called the Great Pacific Garbage Patch.
12.It is located somewhere between California and Japan, and some studies say that it is about 14 time bigger than Korea.
13.Most of the floating garbage is plastic.
14.The floating garbage patch was discovered in 1997 by a man named

Charles Moore.
15.At first, he had mistaken it for an island.
16.Where Does It Come from?
17.The garbage comes from all over the world.
18.It can be water bottles from Korea, food containers from the US, or plastic bags from Russia.
19.When they get into rivers, they are carried out to sea.
20.If they get caught in the ocean currents, they become part of the garbage patch.
21.What Are Its Effects?
22.Many fish, birds, and other sea animals mistake the garbage for food.
23.They often die from eating plastic since their bodies cannot break it down.
24.When a dead bird from the area was cut open, there wasnโt any fish in its stomach.
25.Instead, there were many different plastic products!
26.Although this problem may seem far away from you, it is closer to you than you think.
27.A small fish may eat some plastic.
